Detailed Reviews
We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who quickly allocated us our room which was comfortable and had great bedding. The shower in the room was cold every time we used it. The housekeeping staff were friendly and attentive.
There is a great swimming pool which, it seemed, we had exclusive use of due to the low level of occupancy. When present, the pool attendant was efficient at enabling pool bookings and providing materials for the pool and games room. The fitness room was well resourced, however, there was no attendant present on our second morning which made it difficult to start our workout.
The breakfast waiting service was good and on our second morning the quality and preparation of the food was very good. The dinner service was consistently excellent and the food delicious.
All spa experiences were very good and there was no need to make appointments due to the low number of guests. There was 40% discount offered on a number of treatments.
The facilities at this hotel are excellent. Some experiences are lacking, however, due to the absence of attendants during advertised hours of operation. I would expect better of a five star hotel.

We love it! What a magnificent experience, staying in this hotel in the beautiful Terelj National Park. You really feel you are in Mongolia here, it's not a typical high end corporate hotel, it has a heart and soul. So much gorgeous art everywhere, I would stay just for the art and antiques on display. The rooms are sumptuous, but what makes this place special is the staff. We travel all over the world, but we have never been so well taken care of as by the people of this hotel. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by F&B Manager Sanjeev and Exec. Chef Marvin, who wanted to make sure we were comfortable and wanted to talk to my husband about his gluten allergy and how they could accommodate it. We've never had that happen before. Then, every morning and at dinner Chef Arun would come to ask us what we wanted for breakfast and dinner -- anything we wanted! Chef Arun went above and beyond for us, even though the hotel was busy with other guests, every day he made sure to make us feel special and was eager to try new recipes for us. We will be so sorry to leave, the Terelj hotel already feels like home! We feel we are staying with friends. Kudos to the Mongolian private owner and General Manager for preserving this unique piece of Mongolian history and keeping standards so high and yet still so warm.

I brought 70 people to Terelj for a week long convention studded with excursions and learning programs.
Everyone at Terelj did their best to accommodate our wishes and necessities. Including the last minute organization of an outdoorsy cooking competition Masterchef style.
Two stars really excelled in this firmament of kindness. Nadaiv, the general manager, who went to great lengths to ensure our stay be seamless; and Arun, the outstanding chef, who every day at every meal would oversee all the kitchen operations to ensure to my people that their food in such a remote country and location was in fact the best it could be. And it was.
Such excellent and caring experience deserve all the stars it can get.

Starting with the positive, this hotel may be the best in the area. And indeed, it's important to remember that you're in Mongolia, where standards are not the same as in many other places.
However, after reading other reviews, looking at photos, etc., I expected a lot more.
The hotel itself is nice, and probably was 'very nice' when it first opened. But, it's certainly lost its way.
The front desk staff were pleasant, but otherwise the staff were all very junior (many trainee's), did not speak English, and lacked training. There was no management presence in sight.
The food was simply not good. I hardly ate anything at dinner, gave back (unfortunately) an almost full plate of food, with no mention or question from the waiter. Simply took it away and brought me the bill. Breakfast was ok, but certainly not something special.
The hotel has an old world charm, but is very dated and in poor condition. And what makes it seem even more "eery", lights were either turned off or burned out throughout the hotel. Many hallways and spaces in the hotel were very dark - almost felt like a haunted house.
The pools looked very dirty and the jacuzzi was broken.
The bed was good (but small), bathtub showers were good.
Again, may be the best in the area and we certainly appreciated a good sleep and a nice shower. But if you're expecting 5-star luxury this is far from it - at least by international standards.
A little TLC (tender loving care) could go a long way.

Spent two nights at this wonderful hotel in the National Park on the Terelj River. This hotel is a must stay if you come to Mongolia (approx 1.5 hours out of UB). The views, the service and the hotel is absolutely wonderful 5 star. Chimgee (apologies if spelt wrong) did a wonderful job and her team were outstanding. I would say that a hotel of this class should have an updated sound system, that would be the only downside to my visit. The room I stayed in was immaculate and housekeeping was to the highest standard. I will be back towards the end of the year for another couple of nights. I Highly recommend the spar service and rooms...one word would describe the Day Spa and that would be "Palatial".

Although this is not a new hotel it is very nice and clean and gives an impression of Mongolian Glamour. I loved the stands with Mongolian cultural artifacts and how the hotel is celebrating the local history.
Description of the room said luxurious bathroom and somehow I got a nice bathtub in my head whereas ours had a shower and was a tad bit too small to fit the description.
The staff was very friendly and we met their new sous chef Arun (arrived recently from India) and he suggested that he would cook us some great Indian food the following day. His cooking is great indeed and we even had lunch custom made from him the day of departure. Highly recommend this place for a weekend stay away from the busy Ulaanbaatar.

We stayed there for a night following a few days in the Gobi and to be fair, it was a very welcome change to be able to sleep in a nice, comfortable bed and to have a nice shower. Other than that, the hotel is unfortunately far from what it claims to be (i.e. luxury), at least by internal standards.
The hotel, in general, needs a renovation and a lot more "soul". Many of the areas seemed deserted, with no lights, music or people and so felt like a "haunted house"...
The staff are pleasant enough but clearly lack training or any sort of charm. Maybe that's a language thing because they don't really speak English but either way, the service certainly didn't feel "luxury".
The food, including breakfast, was ok but nothing memorable.
All in all, I'm sure this is probably the nicest hotel in the area, for now, but just know that it's not "luxury"

Chef Arun, cooked spectacularly for us every meal. He was very accommodating and cooked speacial food for my grandparents to meet very strict dietary requirements. He went above and beyond in every way possible to make us feel comfortable. He has rightly earned his spot as one of the best chefs in mongolia.

I visited the hotel in October and then again in December for Christmas eve weekend with my family. Despite its opulent interiors it has a cozy vibe which makes it a home away from home overseen by their warm and friendly staff. A special mention to the F & B team and Chef Arun Singh for making the inhouse dining at the river view and Argali restaurant an eclectic experience. Personalised attention and welcome addition to the menu of delectable Lamb kadhai with parantha, biryani, butter chicken and rogan josh made for an awesome gastronomic experience. The variety of international dishes in menu ensured that everyones taste was catered. We loved being pampared!
