Disconnect in order to reconnect with nature. Friendly staff, great food, awesome horse rides. Kids enjoy the freedom of the place. Home away from home. Terra khaya will always have a special place in my heart.

We absolutely loved our time here and would advise it as a must-stay for visitors to Hogsback. Shane has created a quirky, creative, mystical haven for the discerning traveler. From the sensitive ecology of the lodge to the fabulous, eccentric decor in each of the cottages to the clever eco-friendly bathing systems to the wholesome, yummy dinners, this is an...

My boyfriend and I stayed over fo one night on our way to Cape Town, but I wish we could have stayed a month. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The area is incredibly scenic, with beautiful views of the mountains and forests. Their kitchen facilities are clean and spacious which is great for self catering travellers like us, though...

Terra Khaya was my favourite stop on a month long trip from Cape Town to Joburg. Shane (the owner) is a really sound and interesting guy. Definitely go horse trekking with him and he can show you some cool spots around Hogsback. He's also a excellent cook and the dinner table has a great atmosphere. The hostel is surrounded by...

So, I've been to Terra-Khaya three times now, and every time I go it just gets better and better. Meeting and spending time with Shane around the fire has changed how I view my life on this planet. His philosophy on life and living has inspired me to want to open my own Eco accommodation site in Scotland. If you're...

I stumbled upon Terra-Khaya somewhat serendipituosly during a conversation with some other backpacker. After a quick research I decided the place was worth checking out. The result? The most unique backpacker experience in my seven weeks of travelling through SA. Nestled in between trees covered by mist in the morning and bathed in sunlight during the day, up in the...

Spent the weekend at Terra Khaya for the Festival of Trees. The general feeling and atmosphere is extremely relaxed and welcoming. I loved the creativity in the communal areas. The team helped us to find a spot to camp even though the place was super busy, they run helped us carry our gear to the camping ground and festival stage....

Most importantly it offers a chance for the visitor to actively get involved with and be inspired by true off-the-grid living. The buildings are all build of recycled materials,...

“The dorm was beautiful, with five-star views of the Hogsback mountains, and a fun ladder made out of a tree trunk for anybody wanting to climb to a loft for more beds. There are two outhouses, outdoor showers, and a bath. They are incredibly clean for outdoor facilities. The outdoor showers were a real treat. And the outhouse past the kitchen actually has one of the best views.”
