So, I've been to Terra-Khaya three times now, and every time I go it just gets better and better. Meeting and spending time with Shane around the fire has changed how I view my life on this planet. His philosophy on life and living has inspired me to want to open my own Eco accommodation site in Scotland. If you're... More

I stumbled upon Terra-Khaya somewhat serendipituosly during a conversation with some other backpacker. After a quick research I decided the place was worth checking out. The result? The most unique backpacker experience in my seven weeks of travelling through SA. Nestled in between trees covered by mist in the morning and bathed in sunlight during the day, up in the... More

Spent the weekend at Terra Khaya for the Festival of Trees. The general feeling and atmosphere is extremely relaxed and welcoming. I loved the creativity in the communal areas. The team helped us to find a spot to camp even though the place was super busy, they run helped us carry our gear to the camping ground and festival stage.... More

2 nights stay here were too short. Terra Khaya offers something special not many backpackers can. It combines stunning natural beauty, tranquility, a very laid back vibe and friendly farm animals. Most importantly it offers a chance for the visitor to actively get involved with and be inspired by true off-the-grid living. The buildings are all build of recycled materials,... More

Ended up staying 4nights here as it was so peaceful and relaxing! The new building where the kitchen/ dining area/ indoor fire pit/ chilled seating area is absolutely stunning and a huge outdoor patio looking across the mountains. Each double/ dorm is in its own separate building which makes it feel very private- although there is a bit of a... More

If you love nature, chilled out music, animals, art and creative things, wood oven, bonfire and fresh spring water, don't pass on this one! One advice: If you're on a budget, bring your own dinner and snacks. Nothing for animal hair allergics, spend at least 2 nights, the fridge is small. I had a wonderful time!

We enjoyed our stay, and the walks in nature, we even picked our own mushrooms. But please note that they only have 'long drops' - must say enjoyed the shower in the outdoors. Enjoyed the fact that it is not in town, staff was very friendly.

“The dorm was beautiful, with five-star views of the Hogsback mountains, and a fun ladder made out of a tree trunk for anybody wanting to climb to a loft for more beds. There are two outhouses, outdoor showers, and a bath. They are incredibly clean for outdoor facilities. The outdoor showers were a real treat. And the outhouse past the kitchen actually has one of the best views.”
