Six of us visited the hotel one of which was a vegetarian. There was one dish a cauliflower choice which was totally inedible and for £16.95 was very expensive and poor value. The other meals mainly fish were OK although expensive and veg and potatoes were lacking. (one half of a potato). Overall poor value.

Dear Mike, I am sorry about your cauliflower steak. I believe we did offer you a generous remedy for your bad experience, which I take is not appreciated. Incidentally, I had a member of your dinner party return to us the other day complimenting us on the great dining experience they had. I wish you all the very best.

We had a lovely two night stay at Burleigh Court, the food is great and the staff friendly and very helpful. The hotel is going thru a few changes at the moment as it has just been bought. We will be back to see the improvements

A very English experience - loved it - loads of character. Private and quiet accommodation in the Coach House and as on ground floor easy to keep our golf clubs in the room. Plenty of parking outside hotel. Lovely old style bar. Restaurant was small and quiet and a very English experience. Food was first class on both nights - great chef. Equally top class breakfast. Staff were excellent. They remembered guests and their preferences, including drinks and exactly what we had at the previous day's breakfast. Really excellent service. Lovely grounds and would be lovely to sit outside - although the English weather prevented that for us. Croquet in the garden; wish it had stopped raining so we could have played. If in the area again we will certainly stay again. One of the best hotels.

We stayed in Burleigh Court Hotel whilst on a road trip in Britain in May. I would definitely not use the word "luxurious" to describe this hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable with all expected amenities but that was all - definitely nothing special. Our biggest disappointment was dinner in their "Award Winning Restaurant". Food was average at best and service was quite amateurish - not what one expects in such a restaurant. We were seated at our table by an older woman who had been at Reception earlier in the day. She brought a jug of water to our table, just left it there with no suitable glasses. When we called her back and asked for some tumblers she just picked-up the jug and poured the water into the white wine glasses already on the table. Next, she brought us our wine and two more glasses - red wine glasses for white wine. The bottle had already been opened and the wine just poured into the glasses. She never returned at any time to top-up or refill our glasses. All this was done whilst she had a young girl with her whom we presume she was training!! The rest of the service that night was also below par and given the air of superiority that seemed to prevail, we were quite surprised. Whilst I can't say that we didn't enjoy our stay, it certainly didn't live up to our expectations and was nowhere near as good as other Manor Houses/Hotels we stayed at during our travels.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry your experience did not live up to expectation. For your information we do not serve water in tumblers but use large wine glasses in our restaurant. We do employ staff of all age groups and duty managers fulfil a number of roles as it is common in smaller hotels. In fairness, and that is something to please keep in mind when passing judgement, we do not advertise a 5* luxurious establishment nor do we charge for it. We offer a charming country house hotel with a splash of luxury at an accessible price, which in most cases causes a positive reaction hence the rating. All the very best.

I would recommend this hotel for its location and the superb views from the front. The food was also excellent. I would, however, not recommend it for the general condition of the building or garden, which both need a lot of care and investment, or for the service. The staff were charming, but the service was very slow and not much care was given to guests. There was no one at the front desk on arrival, and we had to ring the desk bell and wait for quite a long time until someone turned up, and had to wait again for the person to fetch the room key. We were offered a newspaper delivery service in the morning, but no paper was delivered to our room, so we had to remind the staff about it twice and wait for 2-3 hours to get the paper. A lot of activity seemed to happen on the side of the hotel, around the kitchen area and manager's office, but there was no one in the foyer/main entrance to attend to the guests. For our breakfast and meals, we had to stand and wait for the staff to turn up, and then go inside and check with management which table we should sit at, as there was no one there to welcome us and show us to our table. This gave us the feeling of being unexpected.
