The Maniti Eco-Lodge is located about 70 kilometers downriver from the city of Iquitos, approximately 2 hours in boat from the Port of Nanay. Our lodge was carefully designed to offer comfort to travelers yet preserve the environment and surrounding rainforest ambiance. All our cozy private bungalows are constructed entirely of secondary growth rainforest materials and nestle well concealed into the lush surroundings.

Maniti Expeditions Eco-Lodge & Tour Operator garners accolades for its service, with guests frequently lauding the knowledgeable staff and well-executed tours. The lodge's clean accommodations and enticing activities receive consistent praise, although some guests find the rooms basic and a tad worn.
While the value elicits mixed reactions due to occasional unforeseen costs, many appreciate the wildlife encounters and overall experience. The cleanliness and rustic charm contribute to an authentic and inviting jungle atmosphere that guests enjoy.

Had a great 3 days/2 nights exploring the river Amazon and the Amazon jungle. Our guide, Rodrigo, was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and wanted to show us as much as possible in the time available. This included a night walk 😉 nnthe jungle, an early morning swim with the dolphins in the river as well as daytime visits to rescue centres, walks in the jungle and fishing for piranha fish. A great action packed trip with great food as well.

I had high expectations when we planned on going to the amazon, but I was still blown away by this tour. Our tour guide, Edwin, is one of the most passionate, caring, and selfless people I have ever met. His passion for saving the amazon and educating tourists about the amazon is astounding and his knowledge knows no boundaries. He even started up his own project to buy fish nets for locals to deter them from eating endangered monkeys. During our tour Edwin explained everything thing in great detail and answered all our questions perfectly. He always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our trip. He was able to find the smallest frogs and insects during our walking tours and explain every detail of their life and behaviors. The cabins were nice and all had mosquito nets. There was also a hammock area where you can relax and various books about the amazon available to read through. There is always fresh water (which is safe to drink) and each room had its own toilet and shower. I cannot say enough good things about Edwin. He was truly our father in the rainforest.

This was a once in a lifetime experience. On day one when our guide Edwin picked us up from our AirBnB in Iquitos he said he was committed to giving us the maximum possible amazon experience, and he wasn't joking. Edwin was exceedingly proactive about planning activities in advance, and he would listen to us for feedback as well. We were able to go to the monkey island and piranha fishing twice because we told Edwin that we had such a great experience the first time and would like to go again.
He also made sure that we were comfortable and didn't overexert ourselves. On days that a group member wasn't feeling well enough to go out with the group for an activity, he made sure to let the staff of the camp know that that person was staying behind, and would personally check in with that person after the fact to make sure they were okay. This type of care really left the feeling to the group that he was part of our family.
Edwin was extremely knowledgeable about the jungle and the nearby cultures as well. Every single plant in the jungle that anyone asked about he could identify and would seem to know some trivia about. He seemed well known in the communities surrounding the part of the river we stayed in, and when we visited villages his leadership and camaraderie made me feel personally less invasive. He went above and beyond at multiple points on our trip, like cooking the piranhas we caught, or even offering to clean the mud off of our shoes.
Activities that we did included hiking during the day and night, piranha fishing, dolphing watching, swimming in the Amazon (in a safe spot!), visiting "monkey island", visiting a local village that had a butterfly conservatory with a field entomologist, visiting a local tribe, camping in a national reserve with a lookout observation tower, a nighttime canoe ride in the national reserve with bioluminescent aquatic insects, and an ayahuasca ceremony. You will see tons of wildlife!
The ayahuasca ceremony was good. Our shaman maestro Alfredo had a private conversation with the group that was doing it beforehand and explained who he was, how the ceremony was going to go/work, and answered questions, which made us all feel very safe. Our tour guide Edwin was with him to help him with the ceremony, and when one of our group had an extremely intense reaction he stayed with them for hours to make sure they were okay. All of our group experienced effects of the ayahuasca, although since we were all first timers it was difficult to find clarity or meaning in the ceremony. Nonetheless, Alfredo was exceedingly professional and made sure everyone felt secure.
The food was excellent every single meal and our vegetarian in the group was also individually catered to. The staff was polite and helpful consistently. The only critique I would add is that the ants or termites in the ceiling of our cabin had droppings that got on our personal belongings and beds, which was kind of annoying. It was absolute perfection otherwise.
Thank you Edwin and thank you Maniti!

Our guide Segundo and the lodge staff were all wonderful. They really made our stay positive and a good experience. Segundo was passionate about the Amazon and the animals and that rubbed off on us. He was so knowledgeable and upbeat. The food was also delicious and they were able to accommodate the vegetarian in our group. I know coming out of Covid restrictions, there is going to be hiccups, but I did want to mention amenities and our ziplining experience.
From the start, it looked like there was some confusion or lack of communication that it was reserved. A couple days later when we arrived to do it, the host lodge said we were too late and we would need to reschedule. If it weren't for Segundo's negotiations, we probably would have had to come back the next day. When we were finally all geared up and ready to start, we were then told 2 of the 3 ziplines were closed for maintenance. Overall, it was disappointing and we feel like we didn't receive the experience we paid for. I contacted the tour owner who had been responsive up until this point, to see if any refund could be considered based on what was promised and what we received. Still no word either way.
The lodge itself is not anything fancy, but we were realistic about what we had paid for and what was possible in the middle of the jungle. We were hoping to have a toilet that flushed without leaking though. Despite letting the hosts know, the issue was never resolved and we ended up going next door to use the empty room's bathroom for the rest of the stay.

Hello Jupiter014, Thank you for sharing your experience. We apologize for some of the operational issues that you highlighted, since we were closed for so long due to the COVID-19 pandemic our team was a bit out of sync and since then, with more volume we have made great progress in improving our service. It is our priority to make sure travelers leave here happy and satisfied with their experience with us. We have already processed the refund for your zip-line. Please feel free to reach out to us directly via email with any other outstanding items that you would like to discuss and we will make it right for you.

I've just come back from a 3 day 2 night Amazon rainforest experience with Maniti, I can honestly say it was an experience I'll never forget. The guide Edwin was professional all the time and had such enthusiasm for the wildlife trees and local villages even trekking at night in the jungle you were reassured by his knowledge and professionalism. The camp we stayed in was basic but the layout was fantastic with the main dinning hall serving the best food ever I would recommend this company to anyone looking for an adventure in the Amazon rainforest.

The website is fantastic. Do not be fooled. We did not follow any of what was offered on the website. The most birds and animals we saw were on an island in tiny cages, it was sold as a 'sanctuary', but was more like a zoo from the past where the animals were in tiny enclosures and pestered constantly to be held by the paying tourists. We were under the impression we would be seeing these animals in the wild, not being asked for tips...
Don't bother with the zip lining, it was offered to us on the website for $80... Only for us to overhear the boss offering it to a couple for $80 for two... Where did our extra $80 go? On his 4x4 I imagine. The zip line consists of 3 short walkways and 3 short zip lines, I would pay $20 max.
The accommodation was basic as expected, the food was rice everyday with fish (or a veggie option), fresh, but boring and after an amazing experience on the Inca trail with G Adventures, very uninspiring. (I highly recommend you to book the inca and amazon with G adventures).
The 'jungle hikes' and 'canoe trips' were no where near deep enough into the amazon (unlike what it said on the website- which was about 3 hrs away), so the main wildlife we saw were butterflies, spiders, ants and 4 frogs, a little snake and a monkey.
The lilipad trip was highly disappointing due to the lilipads being someone's back garden, not out on a nice jungle hike in the wild as we expected (and they were mostly dead - apparently due to the season being drier).
The walk through the village was odd and felt very strange invading people's lives as gringos to 'look at how they live'. I believe the other village experience is even more contrived with them in traditional amazonian outfits and trying to sell the tourists alcohol and bracelets.
If you try the ayahuasca ceremony, be aware that there is no medical help should you be profusely sick (like one of the ladies in the jungle at the same time as us) and you may need to cancel your plans the following day to recover/sleep if you have an adverse reaction.
The guides and boat drivers were very knowledgeable and sweet, but they are all freelance and only called upon as and when they are needed. I would be very interested to know what kind of salary the boss in the office actually pays them as it is definitely below minimum Wage as they rely on tips, despite the cost of the trip.
I would suggest that you look at tours in Yurimaguas, they are apparently cheaper and more authentic, unfortunately we found this out too late. My advice, find another company.

My tour guide Edwin was excellent, and that is why I give the Maniti Expeditions Eco-Lodge & Tours Iquitos a rating of 5!. Edwin had a vast knowledge of the Amazon Rainforest, its plants and animals. He also is very committed to conservation of the animals, fish, and foulage in the rainforest and he personally invests his own money to help with preservation efforts. Edwin has such a kind heart and he makes every effort to provide a top notch guest experience. When adjustments are requested to meet an individuals need, he takes every effort to adjust to the needs of everyone. He understands customer service, and if I were managing the lodge I would make him the General Manager.
The lodge itself is basic in it's facilities and amenities but that is just what I was looking for so it met with my desire for a true jungle experience. The only things I would suggest is the filter the river water used for showers and faucets, as the water flowed dirty. And the bed mattresses could be improved. The Lodge owner and management could take some lessons from Edwin on how customer service can be improved. I had some issues with management not living up to airport transportation pickup services I had paid for in advance. they did not show up, and after 45 minutes dispatched another transportation service to pick me up, and they required me to pay a second time. Ownership had apparently told them I would have to pay, and they gave had a number of false excuses for why they did not pick me up on time.
If you ignore the poor service by ownership, the lodge is a good place to go for a true jungle experience. This is because of the dedicated staff and guides who work at the lodge.

The Amazon is been a dream since I was a kid and Maniti Expeditions made it happen. From accommodation, 2 hours away from Iquitos, by the shores of the Amazon and surrounded by the jungle, to all the experiences I had there, the Yagua tribe, the day and night jungle trekkings, the wildlife and Monkey island, the fabulous sunrises and sunsets, the local villages, kayaking on the narrow water channels, ALL was Amazing.
The lodge offers the right amount of comfort you need, clean, comfortable bed, good shower but without spoiling the natural feel that such experience should have. I loved that the windows are only covered by nets, the night sounds are magical and the air inside is always fresh.
Segundo, our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us so many information about the jungle, wildlife and plants, tips for survival in the wild and even great local legends.
The tour I had in Iquitos after was incredible, places, markets, local food, great conversations, I had a fabulous time and the people I met were amazing and made me feel like a family friend.
I hope I'll have the chance to come back.

We've had a 4D/3N at the Maniti Eco-Lodge at September 5-8,2022.
A must have experience in your trip!
If you are thinking about making Amazon excursions to the Amazon, Maniti should be your go to.
Our guide, Edwin, was the best thing that could happen for us during our stay. Very quickly he became our father in the jungle. Not only did he make sure that we are safe every part of our trip, he took good care for us and made sure that we are happy throughout our stay at the lodge.
Besides teaching us on the various flora and fauna, different animals and local colture, Edwin introduced us to the lodge's and his own project to educate the locals on sustainable farming, fishing and living. He further told us about aspiring for better schooling in the vilages and you could see how much this man was actively engaged as he knew every person and child bybits name and they seem to highly appreciate and honor him.
Edwin if your are reading this, thank you and best of luck with your projects!
Back to the recommendation :
Excursions, piranha fishing, monkey island, animal senctuary, night camping and many other activities were made during our stay, all in good timing and in great patience until all of us in the group were happy and satisfied.
Food was great and my vageterian wife had designated dishes for her (cooked just for her) that she was very happy with.
We've even found out that the lodge is offering ceremonies with a Shaman and decided to take it as it felt safer than outside Iquitos. Best decision we've made. Be advised that this is was about the cuktural experience and cleansing the mind and body. This is a very strong and cleansing ceremony that must be treated with respect. Make sure you take this experience for the right intention.
Another tip regarding the lodging, There are showers, mosquito nets and beds. It is very sufficient and welcoming and was all we needed at the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.
However (if you're accustomed to urban/metropolitan way of life), be prepared for an Eco-lodge by every definition.
Keep the curtains open for breeze (no AC), choose your charging routine wisely (electricity runs FROM 6 to 9 PM).
Use these conditions to connect with the Jungle surrounding you :)
And with respect to the surrounding nature, buy a mosquito repellent with as much deet as possible. The regular 15% doesn't really bother the flying monsters out there XD.
If we would know this would be such a staple in oyr trip, we would have done a few more days with Edwin at our lodge.
I wish you will have a great experience as my wife and I had.

Fly to Lima, fly to Iquitos and drive through the town and take a 2 hour boat ride up the Amazon to the Maniti facilities. They will entertain you daily with sights up the Amazon. Returning for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No TV (although they do have a generator and a 'Direct TV" dish that they don't use). No cell service. . Use your phone to take videos and pictures. Electricity 6pm to 9pm everyday to charge devices (you'll need a 220V-120V converter). No bugs, snakes, animals at the site, but they will take you around to see all of them, including the native people. Had a friendly (house) cat! Bring Sols ($). You'll go fishing ,if you wish, for Piranhas! The tours normally begin at 9:00am on the first day and end around 5:00pm on the last day. If you have a flight that arrives to Iquitos on the morning of your tour, we can pick you up at the airport and transfer you directly to the jungle (there is no problem if you arrive after 9:00am). Also, if you have a flight that departs before 5:00pm on the last day we will be sure to have you back to the airport in time for your flight.

Hi. I would not asvise strollers going in. The access to tge boat is tricky and the path to the accomodation consists of planks, mud, sand and plant life. In the night walk to see the sunset over the tree tops there is no way a child or baby will make it. There are swamps and it is really dense jungle. Even the guides had a hard time and they ended up rowing pairs of us in a little boat through a very tight creek to get through. Maybe a back pack carrier would be ok on the monkey island trip but other than that it would be difficult with young children. Hope this helps. ☺
