The resort sits majestically on an enchanting island within an island paradise. After a brief and relaxing boat trip, a Victorian-inspired pier welcomes us and invites us to enter the leafy palm grove that sways to the beat of the breeze. As soon as you disembark, our personal "Ambassador" will guide you to connect with the island and its wonderful possibilities from the first moment.

We just returned from Cayo Levantado Resort and even though it was raining the first few days, the experience was exceptional since the resort offers multiple options for your well-being that do not necessarily have to do with the beach and pool. The gym staff is the best, they are very attentive to the way you do your routines, they correct you if you are doing a wrong routine and they teach you new routines. Yubarta provides a space to disconnect and totally relax. The sound of the rain helped that relaxation even more. All the meals in all the restaurants were spectacular, with the Manaya and Senda theme restaurants standing out, the latter offering an incredible experience. All the staff seem to have been trained to treat all guests in a cordial and correct way, never lacking a greeting and always ready to help in what we needed. Although we do not use the spa, the facilities are spectacular. And our room was the best, with a spectacular view that when we return to the resort we want to make sure we have the same.

This is the easiest and hardest review of a report I've had the pleasure of leaving... That being said, the Cayo de Levantado resort is everything in a 5 star resort that anybody could want. 1st class accommodations (nicest room I've stayed in) from a very spacious room (with beautiful ocean views in our case) with an enormous bathroom including a separated water closet, to unblemished lobbies, bars, restaurants, etc. Very recently the owners (from Spain), made a huge reinvestment into this island paradise to bring a true 1st class, 5 star property to the Samaná area. A short boat ride from a stunning (secured) reception building to the Isle de Levantado. 2 beaches of which one has both guest and public access and a 2nd beach reserved for guests only. 2 small islands lay off the private beach (backed by a beautiful pool and the main restaurant) enhancing the already stunning ocean view backdropped by a long mountain range of Semana Bay. With an attempt to shorten, what could/should be a novelette, the diverse and delicious food choices at multiple on property restaurants is only foreshadowed by the level of service and attention to detail by a very well trained staff. You would be hard pressed not to receive a smile and kind greeting by all levels of the staff. One of our favorite options (of which there are many) is the Cafe Molienda, just off the main lobby. Freshly made barisra quality coffee with exquisite fresh croissants, cakes and small sandwiches. You can also purchase cigars, coffee, liquor and other items. The main pool and beach are just steps from each other from which you can order (at the press of an actual button) drinks, more towels and food, delivered to your chair. So far, this glowing review hasn't even touched on the relaxing spa and health based options offered up (at a cost) on the island. We highly recommend the 90 minute massage and facial combo. We really didn't take advantage of much of the numerous relaxation techniques such as meditation and such nor the professionally staffed gym (we don't exercise on vacation). Okay, the bulk of the positives have been covered (trust me, there are many more, including the impeccable furnishings, woodwork details and grounds keeping). I could rant on for another 2282 words... So, what EVERY vacation searching person looks at... the negatives... the secondary pool is located more at the center of the island attached to a restaurant/bar and the gym, is isolated, moreso, from the natural ocean breezes so it tended to be a bit warmer there during the day. If you prefer warmer Temps and isolation from the ocean pool, that would be your choice. We spent all our time at the main pool and beach area for sun bathing. Just fyi, ladies cannot go topless at the pool or beach. The English menus are only available via your cell phone with a barcode scan. We would have preferred to leave our cells in our rooms. A couple, if not more, did have a Spanish paper menu option. Probably the last item (and this is really stretching the complaint department) is the wrist rfid bracelet that will gain you access to all restaurants, spa, room, etc... has some technical hurdles (probably related to ocean swimming) and had to be replaced for each of us only one time. Other than the menu cell phone use, we enjoyed the freedom of not having to carry anything around with us (other than beach/pool items and the very occasional adult beverages). Live bands were scattered throughout the property during our stay. In summation, from the exceptional reception area (yes, they have a bar there) on the mainland to the impeccable service, food and accommodations, the Cayo De Levantado (roughly translated to "elevated key(or island)" is all of that. This is next level vacationing at its finest. We didn't take advantage of any off island excursions or trips and were focused on downtime and relaxation. There are quite a lot of things from scuba diving wrecks, horseback rides to waterfalls, 4 wheeler jungle adventures and I'm sure a whole lot more. We'll explore these options on our return trip this time next year. At no point were we pressed, coerced or compensated in any way for this review. We believe the cost of this trip was well balanced with the rewards.

Our stay at Cayo Levantado was from 10/11-10/20. Ten days was just not enough. The pictures you see of this resort do not employ the justice it deserves. We have stayed at many high end resorts and this rivals most. We were treated like royalty. We had an amazing time and I must say mostly because of the staff. The staff has such an eye for detail and explodes while anticipating your needs that it is overwhelming at times. We can’t possibly mention everyone so here are a few that stood out but be mindful that the entire staff is wonderful. Lidia- server in (best smile) Herve/ GM ( the best!!) Jeffery (Manyana/Senda) Yulissa Carlos and Ricky (beach bar) Housekeeping- am beach bungalow Miguelina (server @ Carey) Juana in the bar- lemon saw Judith Ambassadors- Geuris-rest supervisor Luis Alberto- rest supervisor Yorkis- ambassador Emmanuela David and Jeffery- gym The grounds of the resort are impeccably manicured but leave it in a natural state that is to enjoy. The food is exceptional. We did experience a language barrier but it did not dull our food or quality of service. My husband enjoyed personal training at the gym on a daily basis with David and Jeffery. I turned towards the spa which I can assure you is state of the art with the most relaxing environment. We experienced biking on the water, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming in the clearest water I have ever seen. The pools are beautiful and complement the beach. Housekeeping is probably the best I have had anywhere! Our room was a beach bungalow with a plunge pool overlooking the water. Decor was perfect as if you were under the sea. Lobby bar fantastic. Room service on point. If you can imagine a perfect island vacation this is it!! Coffee shop rivals most. All of our needs were met. We felt like we were at home and to me that is the most important feeling one can have. Cayo Levantado was like home in a paradise! Think of Fantasy Island back in the day and you have it!! Worth every penny! From start to finish Cayo did not miss a beat!

Bottom line up front (BLUF)The resort is indeed expensive and the occupancy is very low now, however, this Cayo Levantado Resort is NOT the Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado you had known. It is completely different by all means, redesigned, rebuilt; with new menus, meals and drink choices. The new brand, Cayo Levantado Resort, is well designed. New fresh look everywhere, beautiful color dress for the staff, incredible plates and glasses, light fixtures, wall colors, chairs all are carefully picked. It was a well planned work and a huge investment for the Piñero Group! They stepped away a bit from the Bahia Principe name they don’t even count your stay here for your Bahia account, and vice versa, your Bahia black level means nothing here. Absolutely elevated services everywhere, you can’t compare the “old” buffet restaurant to the recent offerings. Don Pablo was very good but Manaya is 1000 times better. I am not going to touch the regular things like travel, from the airport to the harbor and from there to the resort, it hasn’t changed much, but the catamaran is new, and you will have wifi in the harbor at the check-in, these are the new things. The wifi itself is excellent, throughout the resort you will get strong and reliable signal even to call, watch movie or whatever you want. The check-in I have made online upfront in the new Cayo Levantado application so they didn’t have to do anything in the harbor just gave us the new type bracelet which is your key and ID for the restaurants. Actually the application is good, you can book restaurants, you can check the activities schedule, also contact your ambassador (butler) or order room service. The room is well designed, the bed is comfortable, the towels are very good. There is fresh coconut body lotion in the bathroom with expire date on. As well as on the scrub in the shower cabin hand made. The liquid soap, shampoo and the conditioner are good quality. The hairdryer is very good according to my wife. The minibar is absolutely unique. Different Dominican hand made chocolate bars, passion fruit drink (fresh), white tea, water (still and sparkling), Dominican beer, coke. Two bottles of Dominican rum 375 ml each. The safe is very good, regular hotel safe as anywhere in North America. There is a steamer in the closet, an umbrella and a yoga mattress. In the room there is an excellent outlet to charge your devices with USB type A and C. The tv could be hidden with moving doors, and actually you can pair your phone with the tv and use your phone as remote control for the tv or/and for the lights and for the AC. The AC is excellent, very effective. The ongoing erosion of the beach (on the left) has been stopped with huge sand bags (I hate them), but on that side of the island the waves are huge and strong as it was the case always. The beach otherwise is well-kept, nice and clean under supervision of a lifeguard. The bar service on the beach is excellent, Ricky is ready to fulfill all your wish. Well done Señor Ricky, good caipirinha and piña colada. The restaurants: two types of restaurants, one type you need a reservation and the other one you don’t need. SENDA is a Dominican food type and MANAY is a meat/steak type. The SANTA YUCA and CARREY are excellent choices as well. All the food options we had were excellent, gourmet type of food. Maybe one thing we didn’t like was the poolside/beach nachos, plain simple without even cheese… the cocktails are incredible everywhere but in the main building bar COA is the best place to have a cocktail or two. Jordis Micael or Zuleika and Jose will do your favorite drink or any brand new one. The waiters/waitresses are going from restaurant to restaurant. Miguelina, Ricarda, Rupert provided spotless service, very attentive with a smile always. Muchas gracias para todos! All the wellness activities are fantastic. The sound healing was excellent, thanks Carmen and Nataly. All the Yubarta facilities are well designed, serves the purpose. It is impossible to mention everyone but whoever we met on the island everyone was polite and did everything possible to make us happy!

What started off as a quick 4 night trip turned into 7 days of pure magic. I have never been a fan of the Dominican Republic but that is because I didn't know about any area other than Punta Cana. My opinion was that the DR was super touristy and didn't have good food. Cayo Levantado completely changed my perspective. This island resort is full of culture, incredible food and a staff that goes the extra mile to make you feel seen and special. My trip was extended due to the waters being closed due to a hurricane out in the Atlantic. I had the choice to either cut my trip short or I could extend until the estimated date the waters would be opened. As a travel advisor I felt like I hadn't been able to experience enough of the resort to properly explain/sell it to my clients so I opted to stay. BEST DECISION EVER! My room was an Ocean View Junior Suite w/plunge pool. A very spacious room with plenty of sitting areas. The beach and pools are gorgeous and my favorite thing about this is all the various seating styles. There is lounging in the pool, beds around the pool, giant poofs and then same at the beach. There is also food service around the pools and beach. Whether it was room service, a la carte or a curated tasting menu, everything I ate was delicious. I did not have a bad meal at Cayo Levantado and I am very picky. This place is a culinary gold mine. The level of care that is put in their food is the same level of care that is put in their drinks. Ernesto the resident Mixologist taught us all about his experimentation with favors and a little science. Spend some time at the lobby bar and you will be blown away. Most mornings I engaged in one of the activities offered whether it was a fitness session with David or in Yubarta with Alex but each one was special. The gym is kept in excellent condition with every piece of equipment you need to get in a good burn. I was able to experience one on one sessions with David. We did Pilates, HIIT and Total Conditioning. David is the type of trainer that pushes you and encourages you at the same time. I highly recommend a session with him. Yubarta is like a fairytale. When I walked in I instantly feel at peace. I am not a person that meditates. In reality I don't like to sit still for too long however I was able to experience a sound healing class which guided me into a state of euphoria. Alex is so talented and has an energy that is calming. The best part of my time in Yubarta was the Wim Hof Ice Bath. Alex wanted us to fully be able to enjoy the experience so he took us through a breathing excercise beforehand to help us get mentally prepared for the cold. All I can say is TRY IT. Pro Tips: Don't skip dinner at Senda. Spend time at the spa, even if it is just for Hydro Therapy. Utilize your Ambassadors! There is just so much that I loved about this resort and I can't wait to send my clients as well and return with my friends.

Thank you for sharing your amazing experience at Cayo Levantado Resort! We are so glad to read that your 7-day stay turned out to be pure magic. That you were able to connect with the real Dominican Republic culture and flavors, made our day. Thank you so much for that comment. The hotel promises an extraordinary experience, but it falls short. Here is my experience: To book the hotel it took numerous tries. I was persistent and with the help of their sales department, I was able to pay for my stay. Then came the glitchy app which was not able to process my check in before arrival as offered by the hotel. We were excited about our stay and landed a day prior to be able to drive in daylight. I am Dominican and do not advise any foreigners to drive to Samana unless you are 100% sure that you will get there in daylight. It is a long, but beautiful drive. Take advantage of the transfers offered by the hotel instead of driving. Back to my review. We were supposed to enter the hotel on Sunday, September 10 and started our drive from the capital at around 8:30 am. We were about 1.5 hours from Samana when we received the first call, but the call got disconnected. Then about 30 minutes later we received a second call from the same number. I stopped and was able to take the call. To our surprise, the hotel was calling us to CANCEL OUR STAY HOURS BEFORE CHECK IN. They stated that the Dominican Republic marine was not allowing their boats to take people to the property due to the hurricane. I later confirmed that it was only the hotel’s boat that were not allowed because all other tours and private boats were making trips in and out. I told them that I was 1 hour away and that I didn’t have a place to stay and they offered another hotel (not a good one) at a “discounted “ price. I was going there for my 20th anniversary and the experience and the way the hotel handled it was the worst. If you are considering going please wait until all the kinks are fixed and after hurricane season so you don’t end up in Samana with no place to stay. It is just not worth the hassle. It is definitely not the experience you expect from a place that charges $$$$$$. Staying there is uncertain and you will not receive enough notice to adjust your plans nor any help.

Thank you for sharing your experience. However, let us state how unfair we feel to give us that score as you were not able to enjoy our facilities and services for causes completely independent and out of our control. We deeply regret the last-minute cancellation due to hurricane-related boat restrictions. We can guarantee that was a Mandatory order not to perform any sea activity by the highest Marine institution in the Dominican Republic. Our property would follow always the authorities' guidelines and of course, will look for the security and well-being of our guests and future guests. Nevertheless, we will work to ensure a smoother booking process and better communication during unforeseen circumstances. We hope you'll consider giving us another chance in the future considering the exceptional and completely out-of-the-ordinary experience you encountered. Kindest Regards

My wife and I travelled to Cayo Levantado to celebrate her 40th birthday. This 5-Star resort deserves all 5 stars! Every detail in the resort is well designed with a modern chic experience and provides luxurious amenities. Due to our work schedules, we only stayed 2 nights, and it was worth every penny. As soon as you arrive to the Santo Domingo airport, there is a 2.5 hour private transfer to the port of Samana. From the port of Samana a short 10 minute private boat transfers you to this private oasis. The island has beautiful beaches, crystal clear water fronts, pools and great cuisine. One of the standout features of this resort is the impeccable service. The staff members are some of the friendliest and most attentive individuals I have ever encountered. They go above and beyond to ensure that every guest's needs are met, always with a smile on their faces. Whether it was arranging restaurant reservations, suggesting activities, or simply providing helpful tips, they were always there to assist, making our stay even more enjoyable. We were personally assigned 2 ambassadors who were available to assist us 24-7 which made the trip stress free. Our Ambassadors names were Marco and Rosa, and they were absolutely amazing! The accommodations at Cayo Levantado Resort are nothing short of luxurious. My room was beautifully appointed, offering both comfort and style. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the plush bedding to the modern amenities provided. Waking up to the gentle sound of waves crashing on the shore and the sight of the sun rising over the horizon was a truly magical experience. Anyone who is thinking about traveling here, you’re making the right decision and won’t regret it! For photos of our trip, visit my instagram handle: travelingbehindthelens
