Hi Kate, the restaurants along the beach are small open air establishments that offer fresh (still alive when you pick) seafood. They are also have standards fares such as fried rice. The onsite gift shop offers a higher quality selection of crafts and textile than the shops in Hoi An when we visited in July/August of last year. The pricing is equivalent to Hoi An for silk textile but the design and styles were better. I believe because the Ana Mandara also caters to Vietnamese tourist whom may be more savvy about local pricing.
The resort does offer shuttle that drops guests off at the area with a great selection of restaurants and shops. Be sure to sign up at the front desk as seats filled up when we were there. The service is complementary.
Finally, the beach front bungalows are worth the up charge and since it's a fairly quiet resort, I would ask for one of the two that adjacent to the pool which was lovely.
