I travelled with my family. The experience was beyond disappointing. From the front desk being rude and not helpful, there is no accountability for anything. When we first booked we booked a beach view, we definitely didn't have a beach view. We spent over $300 at the gift shop and they wouldn't exchange a bracelet ($3.33) that we purchased 5 min earlier that broke. The rooms were not designed for families. The smallest double beds I've ever seen and a shower and tub that isn't behind closed doors. The lady at the front desk confirmed our shuttle would arrive at 4 pm on the day of departure and our shuttle didn't show up. The A la carte restaurants were disappointing and the 24 hr lobby food was gross. I do not recommend this hotel if you are travelling with children.

Hotel's Favorite
Spent five nights at the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres and had a great time. The hotel has several pools with swim up bars. No problems in finding lounges at the pool or on the beach. There are several restaurants to choose from with good food and service. The room, shower with separate bath were very comfortable. All of the people working at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Particularly, the guest services group under the direction of Lupita Bustamante. She was very welcoming and always available to answer questions and most helpful in assuring an enjoyable stay. Will definitely return.

Great resort! Just a few too many children. Would have been nice to have one pool other than the swim up bar pool to relax at without kids. Location nice but far from any excursions and with the road construction ongoing from Cancun it makes travel longer. JLo at the buffet was amazing service. Also if you have only Spanish speaking stations in your tv call reception and they can program in some English stations .

Beautiful modern hotel, beach amazing, food was great. Avoid ordering steak, go with seafood. Unfortunately, on our 3 rd day in, my husband came down with travellers diarrhea. Surprising, for 5 star hotel, was very clean, we didn’t go off the hotel. It ruined his vacation and I didn’t enjoy mine, as spent most of time alone. Since home, I have come down with same thing. Also, The hotel is over and hour drive from airport. If you’ve never been to Mexico before, I would stay south of Cancun, closer to do excursions.

Room Tip: No need for swim up, lots of pools to enjoy. Buy souvenirs at hotel, too expensive at airport....

I wanted to write a review of this resort for folks thinking about booking here, because if you are like me, you are scouring reviews to decide whether you want to stay here. In short, this is an amazing resort and I cannot recommend it enough. We stayed over Thanksgiving week with a family of 5 and had a fantastic time. Here is a breakdown of some of the highlights. Food: The buffet is amazing. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate the buffet most breakfasts and dinners. The variety is incredible. They put a lot of detail and thought into the food and I have absolutely no complaints. We did not do a lot of a la carte restaurants because the buffet had everything we needed. We did try the Mexican food at Zarape. The setup was buffet appetizers (which could have been the entire meal) and then a main course meal. It was all delicious. For lunch, you can do the buffet, but we just enjoyed Pepe's grill by the pool. Most of the time, we were so full from breakfast that we really did not eat a lunch. There is also a 24 hour lounge that has some hot food, an awesome espresso machine, and some drinks. I think the Tastes restaurant behind the main restaurant does afternoon buffet snacks, but we did not try that Finally, Cappuccino was open daily starting at 7:00 am and had delicious lattes and sweet snacks. Great place to stop and recharge. You will not go hungry at this resort. For people that complained about the food, I really do not know what they were expecting. It was all amazing and if there was something at the buffet that I did not enjoy, there were plenty of other options to choose from. Drinks: Plenty of places to get a drink. There are a couple pool bars and a lobby bar. Nothing at the beach, but workers will walk around and make sure you have a drink. There is a pool bar that is not a far walk from the beach. Never had to wait very long for a drink. Rooms: Very clean and comfortable. The coffee maker in the room was nice and there were liquor dispensers in the room, which I guess is useful if you wanted to mix your own drinks. The drinks in the fridge included soda, beer and water, which was restocked daily. Beach/Pools/Grounds: The grounds are very well kept. Access to the beach is easy and it was always easy to find shade under the palm trees. The beach itself was beautiful and the water was nice. There was a bit of seaweed, but not that bad. The pools were fun and the kids enjoyed the water park. They were pretty strict about the 4 foot tall limit, so we took the little guy to the small slides next to the water park. Hotel Dunamar had a fun Sports Bar that had pool tables and snacks. There was some evening entertainment every night as well. They have a nice little gym on the pool level. It says it opens at 7:00, but I would go there around 5:45 in the morning to run and it was always open and got pretty busy around 6:00. Excursions: We did a snorkel excursion to Isla Mujeres and spent a day at Xel-ha. The snorkeling at Isla Mujeres was amazing and was probably our favorite part of the trip. Xel-ha was a lot of fun as well, but it was pretty far. Took a little over 2 hours to get there. We rented a car to give us some flexibility. If you are doing Isla Mujeres, the ferry from Puerto Juarez runs every 30 minutes and it takes about 20 minutes to get there. There are some Isla Mujeres tours that do a private catamaran, but the ferry was easy and quick. Gave us more time for snorkeling and then lunch on the island. As some have noted, this hotel is a little bit away from everything else. That did not bother us. We spent a few hours one day at Riu Palace Peninsula, which was about a 35 minute drive. It was a lovely hotel, but I am glad we stayed at RPCM. The water at the beach was a bit calmer, but the beach itself was smaller. There were also many more vendors on this beach than at CM. Peninsula was closer to everything, but if you're doing an excursion to Tulum or Xel-ha, it's quite a drive from anywhere unless you stay in Playa del Carmen or somewhere else down south. Miscellaneous: Bring $1 and $5 bills for tips. Also consider bringing your own cup for drinks. I wish I brought a waterproof bag and waterproof shoes for Xel-ha because there is a lot of walking and I had nowhere to keep money for tips. Also, if you don't want to rely on public or private transportation, I would recommend renting a car. Parking is free at the hotel and we did not have to wait for shuttles or taxis to take us where we wanted to go. My Spanish is pedestrian at best and we were able to get by just fine. Most of the hotel staff speak English and I mostly spoke Spanish out of courtesy. You'll be fine if you don't speak Spanish. If you have kids, consider bringing some pool toys and basic medicine. They sell all of it in the shop, but it is a bit pricey. TL/DR - This place is amazing. 5 star all the way. Recommend you book a snorkeling excursion at Isla Mujeres.

Hello! Here is an honest review of the hotel. Good overall but it is really a matter of what kind of experience you are looking for. My husband and I are in our 50's and love good food, a beautiful beach and good authentic entertainment. So......this hotel is like the Olive Garden of resorts...you'll be satisfied but it's not great. I will break it down: 1) Food is mediocre: Quantity over quality. Everything pretty much tastes the same after a while. There are plenty of options and you will definitely not go hungry but it's just fine. 2) Drinks: They're basically disgusting, watered down and have an artificial aftertaste. I drank white wine all week.... 3) Cleanliness: Impeccable in this regard 4) Service: The loveliness of the Mexican people cannot be overstated 5) Pools: There are 5 to choose from so that's fun 6)Beach: It's quite nice and very long but the water can be very choppy and there can be an undertow and some rocks when entering...bring water shoes. If you cannot swim, this place is NOT for you. Guests bringing their small children in the water made me cringe. There are no palapas so there is a severe lack of shade. If your skin is sensitive, this hotel is NOT for you. 7) Restaurants cannot be reserved so it is a pain in the arse to get into one on any given night. You have to stand in front of it and try to make the list which not all front desk waiters apparently keep. No restaurant is really that good. What you actually get served does not usually match the image on the scanned menu. 8) Entertainment is run of the mill 9) Rooms are nice and clean. Sinks and bathtub are exposed which is weird. Great private shower and toilet though. 10) Guests: Lots of small children so don't expect quiet. In a nutshell, the hotel is large and generic...if you're looking for an upscale, authentic Mexican experience, this is not the place for you. Also, lots of reggaetón which I love by the way, but it's just too much. ......Feel free to DM me your questions.

Ok here we go , we are staying here at the moment courtesy of Tui holidays . First of all : Positives Hotel is beautiful All areas of the hotel are immaculate. Staff work incredibly hard and are always pleasant , a credit to the hotel . Food plentiful and really good ( speaking as a fussy eater ). Negatives: As a mature couple 63 & 65 respectively apart from the reception & square bar & cappuccino coffee bar there is no area for enjoying your lunch during the day the pool bars ,although they have lovely areas for eating play unbelievably loud dance music ,today I think we needed ear defenders , don’t get me wrong we are all here on holiday but there should be somewhere around the pools where you can actually chill and enjoy your lunch without having to go up to the main restaurant we’re not all in our 20’s to 30’s . Also the specialty restaurants should possibly have a booking system , we have stayed in many Riu hotels around the Caribbean that have this system in place . That aside we are enjoying our stay but those small things would probably stop us from coming here again to sum up Lovely surroundings / rooms Amazing staff Great food .
