While staying at the TRS Coral, we went for dinner at the Japanese restaurant ar the Grand Palladium Village. Our waiter Eddy was fantastic. Lots of tasty food, great service and overall great experience. This is a must do.
We returned on April 25 from a fabulous 9-night, 10-day holiday in the Family Selection area of Grand Palladium Costa Mujeras. We have traveled to the Mayan Riviera over 20 times, staying in several different resorts, but this was our first time in Costa Mujeras. We booked this trip through a member which gave us many added benefits that were much appreciated. The benefits started the moment we arrived in Cancun. Our reservation included a complimentary round-trip private shuttle to the resort. When you finally get outside of the airport there will be many people offering transportation. If you have pre arranged transportation, you should see someone holding a sign with your name. We were a little concerned when we looked around and didn’t see anyone with our names on a sign. Our flight’s arrival had been delayed a little bit and apparently, our person had just stepped away for a few minutes and it didn’t take long before we were able to find them and get on our way. The drive from the airport to the hotel was about 40 minutes, which was nice as it is shorter than the trip to many resorts in the Mayan Riviera. When we arrived, we were taken to the travel club lobby to check in. Check-in was fairly smooth and then we were off with Alfredo in a golf cart to find our room. We had booked a family Selection junior suite with a panoramic Oceanview. When we arrived at the room, we realized that, while it was lovely, it didn’t have the panoramic ocean view. Apparently they didn’t have any of those rooms available but two days later we were able to move to 11230 which had an absolutely phenomenal panoramic ocean view. I will break the review down to our thoughts on various parts of the resort. Room Room 11230 is a Junior suite with a panoramic ocean view and it was great for us. It had a king bed and a pull out couch, a Nice large waterfall shower, a tub with bubble jets on the bottom in the bathroom and a motorized privacy screen in between the bathroom and bedroom area. The mini bar was stocked almost every day with water, pop, apple juice, Coors Light and Dos Equis. We also got a Snickers chocolate bar, peanuts and a small bag of regular chips. Other than that, the room included standard extras like a blow dryer, an iron and ironing board, 2 USB ports by the tv, coffee maker and Shampoo/conditioner/body lotion and bar soap. Beach and pools We didn’t spend much time at the beach this trip but it was beautiful. The amount of sargassum seaweed changes on a daily basis but, while we were there, it was never terrible and definitely much better than beaches in the Mayan Riviera. We spent time at all of the pools on the resort. Our favourite pool was the Travel Club pool (in between building 11 and TRS building), which is only available to Travel Club members or those who have booked their trip through a member as a family member or friend. The palm trees grow on an angle over the pool, providing an amazing tropical feel with lots of shade but also lots of sunny areas. Kids are allowed at this pool but we mentioned to our daughter that while we were at that pool, it was important to be calm and chill as it has more of a relaxing vibe. We found that it was a great place to meet people and we felt fortunate to have met some great people. We also enjoyed the Family Selection pool (in between building 11 and 12) which is available to anyone who has booked their room in the Family Selection area of the resort. This pool is primarily all in the sun and is great for kids. They have a host(ess) with a cart that has extra sunscreen and pool toys available to use - I think it’s stuff that previous guests have left behind and probably changes week to week. One of the nice things about this pool is that they have a lunch time poolside restaurant that serves a variety of grilled items. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience here one day as we waited for over an hour and a half for our order. That was at the beginning of our trip and we were sitting in the tables and chairs set up beside the restaurant in the hot sun and it was a bit of a painful wait. Fortunately, we learned that in the following days, we could order from our beach lounge chair and wait while relaxing on the lounge chairs or while enjoying the pool. That was much better and it was more timely those days too. The french fries were amazing and I really enjoyed the Avocado and Pesto Cristini too! They also had burgers (beef, chicken and portobello), salads, shrimp tacos, grilled hanger steak/chicken/salmon or tuna steak and bbq ribs. We went to the Fizz Relax pool a couple times. This pool is beside building 12 in the Family Selection area but the pool is available for all guests to use. It is a smaller pool but that is where they hosted the weekly Foam Party which took place Saturday afternoons while we were there. The main pool is large and the only pool that has a swim-up bar. It was a nice pool and, even though it was super busy at the resort the week we were there (Easter break), we never felt that the pool was too busy and we were always able to find chairs. During the time we spent at this pool, there was usually an inflatable slide or blow up jet-skis for the kids to play on. There was also a snack bar that was buffet style with burgers/nachos, etc. for lunch. The kid’s water park is right next to the main pool and it was pretty impressive. There were a few small waterslides and some spray/splash guns. I think it would be good for kids 12 and under. The last pool area for us to check out was the spa pools. Wow! the spa pool and hydrotherapy area is incredible. There is a pool downstairs with many different massaging jet options spread out around the pool and then there is a smaller, infinity pool outside upstairs that looks out over the Fizz Relax pool. There are also some special areas including a hot and cold pool, sauna/steam rooms, icy cold snow room, etc. as part of the member perks, you get a complementary excursion. As of right now, you can choose to get a massage at the spa in place of an excursion. This is the option that we chose; it was so wonderful getting a massage. They do a wonderful job and it is a very luxurious experience. One day, while our daughter was enjoying some time at the kid’s club, we checked out the TRS pool. It had a swim up bar and more of a party atmosphere. Being in the adults only area, many people were obviously there for a good time! Try the Mayan liqueur Xtabentun - there’s a couple different kinds and it was one of our favourite drinks. The other drinks I really enjoyed were Mango margaritas with Tajin rimmer and Xtabentun margarita with brown sugar rimmer (at the travel club pool). Food Food is such a subjective thing and what one person raves about, another might not like at all. Overall, we were quite happy with the food. We aren’t big fans of buffets so we actually never even checked out the buffet. We ate at The Nest in Family Selection, Chang Thai, El Dorado, El Gaucho in TRS, Sumptori show table, Portofino and the Chic dinner show. Dishes that stood out to us were: The Nest Salad (The Nest), Pineapple Fried Rice (Chang Thai), Catch of the Day with chimichurri sauce and my husband and daughter really enjoyed the Rib Eye steak (El Dorado), the Provoleta Cheese with Bacon and Caramelized onion appetizer and Rib Eye (El Gaucho), Bruschetta and the desserts (Portofino). The show table at Sumptori is a fun experience (fried ice cream was amazing) and the Chic show and dinner was fantastic. We enjoyed breakfast at The Nest but it was quite slow so we ended up ordering room service and enjoyed the view from our balcony. Kid’s entertainment We were very impressed with the Kid’s clubs. It was nice to be able to choose from the activities at the main kid’s club and the smaller kid’s club at The Family Selection area. One thing that I found frustrating was that there was different schedules on the app than what was on the website so we didn’t really know what was happening when. Then, a couple days in, we realized that each of the kid’s clubs had a paper copy with the schedule of activities and that was different than what was on the app and the website. But, the paper copy was correct so I took photos of them with my phone and then we felt confident that we knew what was going on! Most days, our daughter spent about an hour taking part in kid’s club activities. She enjoyed tie-dying a t-shirt, baking cookies, towel art, crafts, Zumba and practicing a dance for the nighttime kid’s Grease show. They also offered kid’s yoga, water balloon fights, beach soccer, UNO tournaments and a variety of other activities. The main mini-club is open daily from 9-5 and there is a kid’s evening show/activity every night around 8:00 or 8:30. The Family Selection kid’s club started their activities in the kid’s toy room at The Nest restaurant from 9-11 in the morning. Then, they did activities by the Family Selection playground from 11-5. At 6:00, their evening program started at The Nest and that ran until 10:30 or 11:00. We made use of this one night so that we could go to El Gaucho in the TRS section for supper. If you need care beyond the Family Selection kids’ club times, you can enquire about getting a babysitter although we did not do this so I can’t comment on that. Easter We didn’t know what the resort would do for Easter so, we left a note at home to let the Easter bunny know that we would be in Mexico and our daughter was thrilled to wake up to a bunch of surprises that were hidden around our room. Fortunately, her Easter fun continued as the kid’s club had some fun activities planned. Our daughter had fun with an Easter craft before a plastic Easter egg hunt and visit with the Easter bunny. Wonderful staff that deserve a mention: - Travel Club cart driver Alfredo was very helpful and friendly - The Family Selection kid’s club staff was wonderful - thank you to Jokaveth, Frida and Vanessa - Rosa at the spa was SO sweet and had such a warm and welcoming presence Ashanti and Ishmael both gave wonderful massages at the spa - Jesus and Daniel were absolutely amazing waiters at El Gaucho - Milly Vanilly was a very friendly room service attendant - Jorge was a great waiter at Portofino Ricardo did a fantastic job as our waiter at El Dorado - Carolina from Travel Club was helpful getting us into our new room - Anyilla, the operator that answered the phone when we dialed 0 was very helpful - Ricky from the animation team made a special effort to connect with us and let us know events that were going on - Gabriel was one of our butlers in Family Selection and he made a cool, balloon bubble bath in our room for our daughter Overall and Random Thoughts We had an amazing vacation. It wasn’t perfect but it was wonderful. The resort is modern, clean and offers so many amenities. I think that things will only get better as the resort rebounds after the last couple of years. I think all resorts have a lot of new staff members and it will take some time for everyone to be on the same page but everyone we came across was very friendly and working very hard. We loved the spa area and the gorgeous travel club pool area. Chic was an awesome show and meal that made for a fabulous date night for my husband and I. It is a set multi-course menu but they were able to switch a couple courses out for us to work with my dietary needs. There were many iguanas around the resort but my daughter missed seeing some of the wildlife (coatis/monkeys/kittens) that we have seen at other resorts in the Mayan Riviera. We went to a couple of the evening shows in the outdoor theatre area and enjoyed some beverages/treats at the coffee shop on a couple of occasions. Sometimes we walked from the beach/Family Selection area up to the Kid’s club or to the area where the theatres and the restaurants are located. We didn’t walk as often as we might have because the golf carts take up most of the path as they drive by. I’m not sure what they were thinking when they made the paths so narrow. With that being said, we were happy that the carts were readily available and made getting around the resort quick and easy. They also had boats that you could take to get around the resort on the lake that runs throughout. If you are looking to get photos taken, there are photographer’s at the resort that wander around and offer to take photos. If you want more than a couple photos, I would highly recommend looking into Santamaria Photography and consider bringing in an outside photographer. We were very happy with the family photos that we got doing this. One last thing I would recommend doing is bringing lots of ones, fives and tens for tipping. The staff work so hard and rely on our tips to support their families. The person that fills the mini bar is different than the person that cleans the room so, we always left money on the bed and in the fridge. The cart drivers were always appreciative of a tip and then we obviously always tipped waiters, bartenders, bellboys, etc. As soon as we got home, I was anxious to plan dates for our next trip back to Grand Palladium Costa Mujeras Family Selection - we had a great time and we’re hopeful that we’ll get back again to experience the Christmas/New Year’s festivities. Thank you very much to Peter for helping us make this booking. I’ve included a few random photos that I thought might be helpful/interesting.…
Itzel et Valen were so gentle! I enjoy my experience with this two persons. I reserved my restaurant for 3 days with her by the pool, it was so nice! She has to go back to the lobby for a meeting group but if they wasn’t have that, they wanna booked all my restaurants. Merci Merci Merci
Really enjoyed my stay at the Grand Palladium/TRS week of 11/21/2022. Our butlers Erick, Carlos, Nahel, Alan and Fernando were fabulous. They were a phone call away-always attentive, helpful and just filled with passion doing their job. You really got the feeling they love what they do. Gina at the travel Club was also great. This was our 4th time at Costa Mujeres and plan to be back again next year. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS RESORT. Special thanks to to Erick who really went beyond any expectations we had.
The Hotel is beautiful, the personal are really, really great, best personal attention, staff are great, food and drinks delicious, we have an excellent vacation, we are very excited to come back… everything is excellent
Would like to give a shout out to Ronie the butler at building 11. Ronie was there to help our daughter before her wedding and gave so much attention and care to our granddaughter Addison. Ronie made every part of our time at the resort absolutely wonderful. The staff at the Nest are outstanding. They treated us all.like family. The wonderful lobster, steak, shrimp and salmon dinner was above and beyond! Every breakfast was amazing with fantastic service. Enjoyed the water aerobics and all the entertainment at the main pool. The service at your hotel was wonderful.. I would change your transport service. Discova and Rebecca were terrible. They are a separate company but the resort needs to get rid of them.
I have been coming down to the Cancun Mexico area almost every year over the past 15 years from Chicago with my wife and two young daughters and we tend to stay in different family friendly all inclusive resorts. This particular resort truly stands out due to their excellent customer service, attention to detail, and constant maintenance and upkeep of the rooms and property. Food is great for the most part, especially at the Adults only TRS sit down restaurants and Buffet and the two story rooms in building 12 at the Family Selection area are super convenient if you are traveling with kids since you have two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is one particular story that made me write this review. I forgot my running shoes in the hotel and only realized that I left them in the closet after arriving home in Chicago. I texted our Family Selection butler Josue who has been incredibly helpful making dinner reservations for our large party of 8 adults and 8 kids during our stay at the resort the week of Thanksgiving. Josue responded to my text right away and within an hour he was able to find my running shoes in the lost and found room at the front desk and then brought the shoes in a plastic bag to the beach to meet my parents who were staying at the Riu Latino Property next door, now that's what I call an excellent customer service worthy of a 5 star review.…
All restaurants and services are great but if you want to have an outstanding service go to sumptori and ask for Armando, he was the best during all our stay!! Very helpful, kind and willing to provide the best
This hotel far exceeded my expectations. Staff was friendly and always cheerful. Hotel was clean, well kept and modern. Service was excellence. The only downside of the hotel was the many different representatives trying to sell us the Palladium rewards each day. Other than that, no complaints. Terrific hotel.
The activity group (called People of Palladium) go above and beyond to keep you active and having fun. Morning Yoga/Stretching, pool aquafit and aqua pole dancing were my favourites. But you all made us laugh and it is so cool you remember everyones name. Thanks so Much Alexandra, Brenda, Dante and Benjamin for helping us to relax and have fun!
