We had a booking in March and turned up a little early after a long journey. It’s not an easy place to find and somewhat isolated with pretty much nothing nearby. The place looked OK and we were asked to wait while the room was prepared. Two hours later we accessed the room. Have yo say the quality if the room was a little disappointing but the main problem was the temperature. This was a south facing room with large windows and the aircon unit was simply unable to cool the room down. We explained the problem and various excuses were made but they made several attempts to improve the functioning of the aircon unit without any success. The temperature in the room was ridiculous and no other alternatives were offered or available. In the circumstances we told them that we were not willing to sray in a room without aircon and agreed that we would find alternative accommodation and that the hotel would not claim the money from hotels.com. Three months later and we are still without a refund as they are. Lao I Ng that the reason the aircon wasn’t working was due to issues with low voltage in the electricity supply and are essentially accusing us of lying. I have never encountered such behaviour from any hotel previously and I would advise you to stay well clear.

We checked in on Lankavatara just the day before Covid-19 hit and borders started to close. In a time of high insecurity, stress and uncertainty the team took care for and supported us, they did everything and a bit more to help us in the situation and we are forever grateful. The place is beautiful, a gorgeous calm getaway. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are great (we stayed in the upper floor villa, spacious and clean) We had no problems with WIFI nor communication as other reviews stated. No, you can't swim in the ocean but the walks along the beach without all tourists are beautiful and the view from the pool overlocking the deserted beach is wonderful. I'd pick that beach again without a doubt. We ended up staying over a week, with the Covid-19 curfew happening. Lankavatara was our safe spot in the midst of the virus spreading. The food in the restaurant is great (breakfast amazing and sooo much food) and we did one visit at the place across the street before everything closed- def worth a visit! We are coming back for sure and we give this place our highest recommendations.

We spent three night here at the end of our trip around Sri Lanka . A contemporary hotel on the beach with pool. Our room was spacious (with a safe) with a large en-suite bathroom . The food was delicious from the ‘fitness’ breakfast to the wonderful curry’s and prawn noodles ... not forgetting their homemade ice creams ! The team was very helpful and friendly . We chose to do an early morning bird watching visit on a lagoon minutes from the hotel which was amazing and very well worth doing . I highly recommend staying here .

Stunningly beautiful location and hotel. Right on the edge of the beach, there is no boundary. It really is a retreat rather than a resort, so if you are looking for tv, music or something to do on an evening, this is not for you. There is nothing around for several km. Its peaceful and tranquil. The setting is all you need. We liked the no entertainment and enjoyed the peace and calmness.Facilities and rooms were great, quite a large room, clean and smart. Very nice food in the restaurant or as room service.Several problems with several staff members, regarding trips booked via the hotel,( which the manager sorted) and communication with breakfast,( came wrong every day. Not a big deal but a waste of food if you didnt order it) and dinner too,( one evening only one of us had a meal as they didnt understand we wanted one each!). But friendly and helpful staff just maybe need communication skills a little better as they were young, rather than just nodding and smiling and the order is wrong. Faultless hotel and grounds. Lovely pool, sun loungers and daybeds. I would definitely visit again and would recommend.

Stayed for two nights to chill after our Sri Lanka tour via Sigirya, tea plantations and safari. Modern architect built hotel built using local products and craftsmen and seemingly miles from anywhere. First floor room overlooking the beach and ocean with a good balcony and easy chairs so didn't need to use the sun loungers. Good sized room and bathroom with cobbled shower. Fan and efficient air con plus floor to ceiling windows and curtains. Upstairs open sided restaurant with ocean views. Good food which you pre order in late afternoon so served promptly although breakfast was very slow on the second day. Lovely hotel with ocean view. Not disappointed. However, supposed to be an eco hotel but you couldn't refill your water bottle so we left a line of plastic bottles in our room. Sri Lanka does not want single use plastic but the message is not getting through everywhere.
