We have stayed for 6 days in the beach villa. The villa consists of an spacy sleeping room plus an open-air bathroom and a veranda. It‘s about 15 meter from the sea. Everyhing 100% clean. The rooms are checked twice a day. The staff is extremely caring. The snorkeling was fantastic (corals, fish). We snorkeled from the jetty at the hotel, but did also an excursion to the Menjangan island organized from the hotel (extremely well organized).

The oceanside bungalow was beautiful, possibly the best we've ever stayed in. The service was incredible, with people jumping over each other to help us out at every moment. The restaurant was also quite good - the muesli and the seared tuna stand out particularly in my memory. And the daily snorkeling was better than we expected, especially around the island, though you could see lots of fish even just near the jetty, with pleasant, competent snorkeling guides. But there were two notable negatives. One, that the hotel doesn't have a decent boat, only old tubs that are very slow, have no toilets, and are practically falling apart. A high-class resort like this one should provide much better service. The other downside is that the condition of the roads is worse than awful. I understand this is largely national park responsibility, but surely if the resort tossed in a little contribution from the high prices it charges it would be possible to get those roads properly paved.

We stayed at The Menjangan Resort and dove with Abyss Ocean World in April 2023 after three weeks diving in Raja Ampat, one week diving in Amed (Bali), and five days diving in Tulamben (Bali). This review covers both The Menjangan Resort and Abyss Ocean World. We were at The Menjangan for five days. We had pre-booked our five day stay and diving through our travel agents, Anne and Scott with Blue Water Dive Travel, who did a great job with our entire trip. The Menjangan Resort, Abyss Ocean World and the diving, particularly at Menjangan Island, far exceeded our expectations. Menjangan is really off the beaten path. In fact, it about as far as you can get in Bali from the hustle and bustle of Denpasar and still be in Bali. I suspect that we would have never found the place on our own but Anne with Bluewater lives in Bali and strongly encouraged us to visit Menjangan. We are really glad she did. The Menjangan Resort is a magical place. There are a small number of rooms in a very large (382 hectares) but mostly undeveloped area within the national park. The food, accommodations and service are all first class. Don’t miss the tree top views from the top of The Bali Tower or dining on the oceanfront deck at the waterfront area. The area outside the resort is mostly rural villages. I enjoyed exploring the area by bike. There are restaurants at both the Tower and the waterfront area. One can walk most everywhere within the resort and and the walking is delightful with numerous monkeys, birds and other things to see. However, depending on the location of your room, it could be a long walk to the Tower and/or the waterfront area for meals and activities. There are loaner bicycles placed around the resort. They are a great way to get around. However, the quickest way to get around is to simply take one of the free shuttles (they are like large, open air, double decker golf carts) that constantly shuttle guests around the resort. We used them a lot simply because we had other things to do (including diving, snorkeling and kayaking) and sometimes did not want to take the time to walk or bike. At the time of our visit, there was no dive operation within the resort. However, the resort works closely with Ocean Abyss. After many weeks diving in Indonesia we had been spoiled by the high level of service that seemed to exist most everywhere (at least at the places that Bluewater Dive Travel books). However, Ocean Abyss is right up there with the best of them. We dove two days with Ocean Abyss. Each day we did three boat dives. The first dive day we dove Pemuteran Bay which is in a small town about 15 km from the resort/national park. Ocean Abyss picked us up from the resort by private car. All of the dives were made from a very unique local fishing boat. The captain picked us up from the beach. We were the only guests on the boat. Ocean Abyss supplied lunch from a local restaurant. We ate on the beach. The whole day was a really nice experience. The diving at Pemuteran was quite good, but not spectacular. Well, it probably was spectacular by most standards, but we had just spent three weeks in Raja Ampat so that skewed our perspective. The next dive day was Menjangan Island. Ocean Abyss picked us by fast boat from the resort jetty. Menjangan Island is really spectacular. It must be is the best kept dive secret in Bali. Divers who go to Bali and never discover Menjangan Island are missing out. Yes, it is off the beaten path and requires a long car ride to get there, but the diving is worth it. The Menjangan Resort/Abyss Ocean was then one place on our entire trip where we really felt we made a mistake not staying longer. Anne had told us how nice it was, but we just could not get comfortable extending our trip beyond 45 days. But the next time we go to Bali, we will go back for more diving at Menjangan Island.

We call this place a place that can stop time. We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights, and always felt calm and relaxed in doing any activities offered by this place, from horse riding, kayaking, swimming in the open sea, chasing sunset and sunrise, seeing the animals up close. Located in the middle of the West Bali National Park, this place has a very beautiful view and atmosphere, very well preserved and beautiful. This place offers a different experience to other lodges and for us all the arrangements were just right. We are very satisfied and feel at home enjoying our vacation in this place, not to mention all the staff are very friendly and very helpful so we are very happy to discuss, tell stories and share our joy with all the staff there not to mention they are very friendly with children. All facilities are very satisfying, starting from the room, bathroom, swimming pool, restaurant, observation deck, not to mention Trenggiling who is always ready to take us anytime. The food & beverages on offer are quite varied and made with local ingredients resulting delicious dishes. You can try playing billiards while waiting for the sunset on the 3rd floor of Bali Tower Bistro, its very fun. If you're looking for a short break during your vacation, we highly recommend this place. Maybe you'll be able to feel Time that stop.

Everything was fantastic and hands down the best accommodation we ever stayed at. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the manager at the majestic Tower, and given cold drinks and a snack. The breeze was rustling through the leaves, all the staff was smiling and at that moment, we knew we are in great hands. Truly the most epic welcome ever. Our accommodation was gorgeous and spotlessly clean, and halfway through our stay we got an upgrade to a beach villa (!!), which was truly a one of a kind surprise, that made our stay even more amazing. We also tried out the large pool, was great especially late in the evening, when it is beautifully lit. Right at out beach villa, there was a "tree of life" as we called it - a large fruit tree attracting all sorts of animals - deer, squirrels, weasels (I cannot remember the correct name, haha), monkeys and a large flock of swallows flying around the tree all day. We are huge animal lovers so this was the absolute paradise for us. The staff was amazing, constantly smiling and took great care of us. Honestly, the management of this resort sat down and thought "What could visitors possibly want?", wrote EVERYTHING down and then implemented it. Everything was possible, all was arranged already before we even thought of needing it. Truly top level service. The waters at the beach are gorgeous, turquoise and warm, wonderful for swimming and snorkelling. We also tried the bird watching trek, paddleboarding, kayaking and horse riding and truly enjoyed all of it. The transportation by park safari cars was great fun and we always made sure to sit on top and right in the front. The restaurant was great and for my friend's birthday, we booked a private candlelight dinner, which was the best thing ever. The location (pergola among mangroves) was one of a kind, the decorations, attention to detail, our waiter was amazing and fun, and the food was absolutely delicious. Side note: Reading the negative reviews, I have to laugh at what people are not ashamed to complain about. The car rides are fun, not “a nightmare”, chill please. If you blame the resort for dead corals - sorry that the harsh reality of climate change dared to present itself during your holiday. What are you doing to battle it? Did you opt-in for the more expensive less emission option when booking your 12hr+ flight? The same goes for plastic - it is a global issue. Instead of waiting for the staff to frantically run to collect every straw that washes ashore after every high tide and then complain about it if they do not (because they are busy attending to all of your needs and are doing a great job), you are perfectly allowed to lend a helping hand and collect some trash yourself. I did it, the staff saw me and immediately came running with a small trashcan so I didnt have to carry it to the large bins. And that was it. Very easy. If you actually complain about the villa bathrooms having open ceilings and about bugs - what are you even doing on Bali? I suggest Northern Europe may be a better option for your next holiday…

We were heading over to Java and thought we would stay here the night before heading out.Sooo glad we did.You have to pay the park fees because you are in the National Park but its less because you are staying at the hotel.I had booked 1 night in a standard room and on arrival we were upgraded to the luxurious suite which was HUGE.The hotel grounds are basically 3 separate areas with reception and the treetop restaurant in one.200m down the road you had the Monsoon area that we stayed in with rooms all around the pool and the third area is on the beach with private Villas and a restaurant looking over Menjungan Island. At first we were a little concerned about getting around as the beach area is 2kms from the rooms but there was a Safari shuttle bus there everytime and no waiting. We had all our meals down at the beach and will stay in one of the beach Villas next time we go(and there will be the next time). The restaurant on the beach is beautiful and there are deer wandering around, monkeys, giant squirrels and snorkelling off the jetty. You can hire canoes, boat and do tours from here too,The food was good although a little on the expensive side but who cares you are in a beautiful haven. Our room was massive as I have said with a 4 poster bed, beautiful toiletries and soaps included.I liked the lemongrass shower gel so much I bought a litre of it from the gift shop before we left. After breakfast we decided rather than take the shuttle back to walk and so glad we did. This was where we saw all the park life including kingfishers and other exotic birds.2kms was nothing. The staff were great and the reception staff were top class and we were treated like royalty.Personal notes thanking us for our stay.Next time 3 nights in the Villa and do more exploring. We have done Menjungan Island twice before so we just relaxed,Thankyou so much to all the staff for making this a highlight of our trip.Sampai Jumpa Lagi

Five days at Menjangan was a marvelous ending of our Indonesian trip. Immersed in nature this eco resort offers wonderful lodges and suites with all the comforts and a very good SPA. The entire Menjangan team is outstanding. They have 2 very good restaurants and we also enjoyed the local cuisine class with chef Putu Ariasa. We are back home and still enjoying the Balinese flavors learned in the class. We had a snorkeling excursion and we repeated it the day after because it was such a marvelous experience: hundreds of colorful fishes around us, turtles and corals.

If you don’t like the peaceful sounds of birds, chattering monkeys or the gentle lap of ocean waves and the best snorkelling in all of Bali then this resort is probably not for you. Fantastically comfortable accommodation and the most amazing staff that are only too happy to make your stay a memorable one. We took the day tour to Menjangan Island for snorkelling and while it’s slightly more expensive than most tours, our guide Sanur was able to point out the most incredible sea life including two turtles, a dolphin and more amazing fish and coral than we have ever seen in our 23 years of visiting Bali. If you’re tired of the increasingly busy hot spots and need some time out to relax by the pool or the beach and eat yourself into a coma, then The Menjangan by Lifestyle Retreats is a must. A huge shout out to assistant manager Gelgel who is the happiest man we’ve ever met. Nothing was too much trouble and his smiling face just made our holiday.

The good: One of the many resorts inside Barat National Park. We drove to the resort from Munduk and upon arrival greeted by a very friendly staff member with ice cold drinks and towels. 👌 From the reception there’s a 20 minute drive by shuttle bus t the beach villas. We had chosen the beach villa as it was just a few steps from a beautiful beach. The only problem is that the beach front is filled when rocks and corals, so you can’t really swim at all. So you can just enjoy the view. The good thing was that the main restaurant is also placed at the beachfront. The jetty bridge is very poorly maintained and several guest including us got injured getting up the stairs. They for some odd reason share this jetty bridge with Plantaran another resort. You’re NOT allowed to trek in the actual national park with out a guide which will cost you extra for each time! We did pay for a birding trip and were just walking around in the hotel area, where we could walk ourselves and see the same birds without paying. Very disappointing that treks aren’t inside the actual NP area. The good, well that was the snorkeling at Menjangan island with a great coral reef and a lot of fishes. We met people from outside the resort who had got the same snorkeling trip much cheaper. So bear that in mind. Beside that everything is just average considering you’re IN the NP but can’t track to see the wildlife inside. Many things didn’t work as the Netflix account t that needed a new box, as the old one were outdated. But in our 4 Days at the Resort they never seemed to understand the problem, and never actually solved it, which was kinda disappointing.

Dear Jalil H, Highly appreciated that you shared your details review. Thanks very much for your extensive and valuable feedback regarding your recent stay at The Menjangan. It was indeed a pleasure having you with us. Our location is indeed very special within the National Park: great spot for people that appreciate peace and serenity. Our resort is one of the 3 properties within the National Park in North West Bali being Plataran the one sharing our actual location (within 382 hectares part of the National Park),as you well noticed with whom we share the jetty, perfect spot for water sports and also transfers to the idyllic Menjangan Island. We sincerely appreciated your feedback regarding the jetty which is being upgraded accordingly and also the feedback regarding your experience visiting Menjangan Island for snorkeling. While the experience is indeed simply amazing, appreciate the price range offered by our resort being above other local operators providing such experience outside the National Park. Such variance is due to the fact that we don’t accommodate more than 6 (six) pax in our boats to ensure safety, comfort and overall better experience , compared to other operators that often fit 10 people and even more to maximize the trips yet at the expense of comfort and potential risk by overloading boats at times. Honestly speaking, often our resort margins are probably less than others taking the above into consideration yet we would not compromise both comfort and safety of our guests. Hence the variance in pricing when comes to snorkeling to Menjangan island. Nevertheless appreciate your consideration and have briefed our team so they can communicate more effectively when introducing our snorkeling trips to Menjangan island to avoid any negative perception or misunderstanding moving forward. Thanks again for pointing it out. We are terribly sorry that you could not manage to make use of Netflix during your stay. The system we have recently installed offers guests the option to access their own Netflix accounts as well as Amazon tv, etc.. while should guests not have their personal log in also provides a wide range of options various stream channels within the system, as well as youtube, news, etc.. We have recently gone through extensive training for our team so that upon arrival, they can explain guests how to use our media center effectively. The capabilities are very comprehensive for adults, children of all ages. We are terribly sorry our team was not able to effectively share with you all the capabilities which clearly disappointed you and let you down. Please accept our most sincere apologies for such inconvenience. Your feedback has helped us to improve both hardware and software and sincerely hope you could give us a chance to show you all the positive improvements implemented. We look forward to the opportunity of again welcoming you back in the near future. Gelgel & The Menjangan Family Operations Manager

I’m not sure words can suffice here! I feel privileged to have called a beach villa at this beautiful resort home this week. From the moment I booked I knew that I was in for a treat. The reservations staff were a delight to deal with and on arrival Gelgel (GM) and the team were so welcoming. The beach villa (302) was the perfect place to rest my head each night. Beautifully furnished and perched perfectly steps from the sea provided solitude and peace that is hard to find in todays world. The added attraction of deer and monkey also enjoying the view added to the uniqueness of this resort. The food at the beach restaurant was superb for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For such a remote location the offering of gluten free options was very impressive as was the quality. I took a massage at the spa. The massage was good with the treatment taking place hanging over the edges of the mangrove added to the relaxing experience. Diving at Menjangan Island (with Abyss Oceanworld) was a great experience. I learned to dive during the week and they were great tutors, thoroughly recommend them and Komang as instructor! I also took a trek through the National Park (arranged by hotel) which was a nice break from the sun for a few hours. All in all I honestly can not really fault this resort. It’s dreamy location, fantastic facilities and superb staff guarantees anyone a stay that they wish could last a lifetime!!
