Detailed Reviews
We stayed as Isla Chiquita for 3 nights over Christmas 2019 and had a wonderful stay. The bed was the most comfortable bed we slept on in Costa Rica. The staff was friendly and courteous. We went fishing one day and caught enough tuna to eat that night, which was a very fun and delicious experience. The restaurant offered delicious food. Everything was lovely.
Since this location is only accessible by boat, and the walk to the rooms are a bit steep, I wouldn't recommend this stay to anyone with walking disabilities.

This glamping hotel is more glamour that’s camping. The tents are extreme comfortable and the views are lovely but chose carefully. The dining areas are smart, for lunch and dinner and the breakfast in the shade of the palms and coconut trees next to the beach, superb.
If you can, save up for the Master room on the top of the resort. It is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. Not a tent, it is a thatched building with an open seating area, with plunge pool, hammock and loungers for 4 people. The bedroom has a large bed, shower and loo and 2 side sofas which. Can be used as beds. The Master, accommodates up to 4 people and would be great value if there are 4 of you.
Food was local, fresh, and presently immaculately, and they sensibly have a limited menu.
If in one of the tents you use the hotel pool and enjoy also the amenities.. a trail, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing etc.
We will never forget this place. Go there for a couple of days, and spend the extra to be at the top if the island. The walk up after each Meal makes you feel less guilty about consuming the yummy food.( you can get a golf buggy if you don’t have a trainer for a spouse! A truly lovely place for couples.

Isla Chiquita Glamping exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff were incredibly sweet and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The well-maintained garden provided a stunning backdrop for our stay, and the entire property had excellent WiFi coverage, which was a pleasant surprise for a remote location.
The food was simply outstanding, with fresh-caught fish and locally sourced vegetables prepared to perfection, and the prices were more than fair. The calm and beautiful waters around the island were perfect for kayaking, and the fact that they provided free access to kayaks and sunboards with vests was a huge bonus. Our kids absolutely loved every moment of our stay, and we can't wait to return to Isla Chiquita Glamping. It truly is a hidden gem for a family getaway!

Wonderful glamping tents on a private island with a delightfully friendly staff, but with such high prices I expect more. With no other option but Isla Chiquita's own restaurant the food had better be good but it was bad. The terraced restaurant and bar is pretty, but for some reason breakfast is served on a flat, worn away lawn area, where inexplicably they also served a hardly edible dinner one night, setting out the small menu's food buffet style so we could see how unappetizing it looked (though perhaps because of Covid they served it to us at our table). Bacon and eggs came at breakfast with fresh from the freezer hash browns and a tiny plate of withering fruit. We stayed two nights in the Master Sunset Suite with a big terrace and private pool perched above it all. Unfortunately, the sunset set invisibly behind trees and would have all year. Scrubby bushes need to be cut out and the big tree trimmed extensively to create vista windows. The wonderful tent has a charming thatched roof, comfortable bed, and bathroom amenities of a good hotel room. Walking downhill to the restaurant is fine in the day, but otherwise a driver takes you up and down in a golf cart, which works well. We were excited to use the free kayaks to paddle around the lovely calm waters, but the apparently homemade paddles seemed to be metal pipes with paddles attached on each end, making them uncomfortably heavy. The pool was a tacky small plastic above ground pool that screamed campground rather than glamping hotel. The prices promise one thing but it doesn't quite work.

Greetings Isabella! We are most grateful for your visit and candid praise for our staff and the select details that make our glamping experience special. Our hospitality mantra highlights a raw connection to the island and its surroundings without sacrificing comfort. We are guided by sustainability mandates that underscore low impact development. That is why our refreshing plunge pool must be above-ground and of light material. We offer it as a simple amenity to cool off a bit after a day's adventure. We have also pledged to leave the forest as untouched as possible to preserve the enchanting lost-island vibe. Your comments are much appreciated and we will review your breakfast experience with our Restaurant staff. Our goal is to have every single aspect of the adventure stand out for excellence. We certainly hope to have a chance to welcome you back in the very near future. Best wishes for a marvelous 2022!

I've been glamping a few times, but this was definitely one of the most luxurious glamping experiences I've ever had. The tents are spaced far enough apart and have enough trees/jungle between them that they feel very private and secluded. Spacious room, bed is very comfortable. Really appreciated the power outlets right by the bed.
The water pressure in the shower is great, and we never had to worry about running out of hot water. The included toiletries smelled SO good!!
Definitely, definitely book the bioluminescence tour! You can book it right at the hotel and they will pick you up at the hotel. It's totally worth it and one of the most unique experiences of my life.
At the restaurant, be sure to get the fish, we had the mahi mahi and the local catch and both were amazing and cooked to perfection.
For other activities, there's a little hike you can do for beautiful views of the water and we definitely enjoyed kayaking and paddle boarding.
Also really appreciated that they have free sunscreen, bug repellent, and after-sun lotion.
Definitely an unforgettable experience!

Wow! This place has been our favorite in Costa Rica! The rooms are fabulous! I mean, they’re tents but they’re tents that fit a king size bed, a sitting area, a double vanity full bathroom and a wonderful porch to take in the beach, the jungle, the howler monkeys, the iguanas and amazing sunrises and sunsets. We had more space than any other hotel so far. We were in #18 all the way at the top and felt spoiled by the seclusion and the awesome views from atop the island.
The food is really good!! The restaurant on site has lots of options. One thing to note, other restaurants are not easily accessible. We had all our meals here and none of them disappointed! Be prepared to pay around $15 per meal and cocktails are about $8-$12 each. This didn’t bother us at all. We enjoyed the great service from the staff. They have really good wine selections.
We had a little howler monkey family that were right outside our room, so close we could almost reach out and touch them (though that would be a bad idea so we didn’t.) There were three little baby monkeys that were just adorable to watch.
We wanted to go traditional Costa Rican fishing so the staff made arrangements for the two of us to go fishing on a little boat on Monday afternoon. Jason, the manager, and Eric our boat captain were so wonderful. So fun!! My husband caught a triggerfish that they made up into ceviche for us for dinner that night. It was really an amazing experience.
We relaxed on the beach and had an amazing time! Irvin, Manuel, Matte, and the team were really great! We loved this experience and hope to come back again in a few years. Thanks for a great stay!

We went to Isla Chiquita to celebrate my birthday. We have lived in Costa Rica for many years, and noted a few outstanding things, and some things that were a bit disappointing.
The tents are very comfortable. We have glamped in other places, and Isla Chiquita excels in tent structure and amenities. The placement of the tents provide for optimum privacy between lodging sites. Yes the paths are steep, but the staff is friendly and never hesitated to give us a ride in the quiet electric golf carts.
The activity center has kayaks and stand up paddle boards for guest use, and making a paddle around the island is delightful. We stopped at a private, secluded beach on the opposite side of the island, and enjoyed seeing spotted eagle rays up close.
It was disappointing that any other activity was prohibitively expensive to book, atop exorbitant lodging costs. Some of the food was tasty, other not so much. To their credit, the staff heard our complaints about food that was not good, and worked hard to resolve the problem. On booking, we were told that special needs such as gluten free food were not a problem, and there were indeed choices listed on the menu. However at each meal the menu option was not available, and other arrangements had to be made.
The pool option is very limited, (there is a small, single depth above-ground area which was too deep for my height) and there are warning signs about entering the ocean due to rip currents. Therefore we only had the option of sitting on the lawn (more shade toldos would be nice) or on our deck, no playing in the water.
The island is quiet and relaxing if one likes reading or napping, and the Wi-Fi works well.

My wife and I stayed two nights and had an amazing time! Howler monkeys, armadillos, eagle rays, cat fish, sting rays, puffer fish, and even an amazing bioluminescence tour. The on site restaurant was great, though not a ton of selections (only an issue if doing an extended stay or if you don’t like seafood). Free sup and kayak use. The tent cabins were very luxurious and complete with full bathroom. All in all a truly amazing experience! Also so easy to get to with a $2 ferry from Puntarenas and they’ll pick you up at the other end for a short boat ride to their private island!

This is a very small island with the 18 glamping sites, the restaurant and nice beach area with canopies, and lounge chairs/tables. For me + family, this was disappointing experience.
Pro: the glamping sites are neat, and nicely distance one from another with greenery and trees so the sitting areas in front of the tent are private. The tent was fine, furniture is high quality, but the bathroom lacks light and the toilet did not have either light or door, so that was a bit uncomfortable. The included breakfast was good, and luckily for breakfast there were no reservations needed.
Cons: apart from taking tours with the hotel, there are very few things to do. The water in July was full of trash and green looking (I was told it is seasonal), and not inviting at all for swimming. We did kayaking (complimentary) and paddle board (complimentary) but that is 1h each. The walking tour was cancelled twice, so we went alone and it was muddy mess, but again 1h max. As for the hotel staff, everyone was super nice, but if you need anything it will be 45min or 1h. For fresh towel, (we stayed 3 nights and no towels were changed), they needed 1h, for getting our luggage from the reception area to the tent 5 (very close), 45min, for getting another portion of veggies in my dinner plate (have garlic allergy and even that I asked for no garlic in my meal the veggies came with garlic) 45 min. If this was some camping price place I would not have such high expectations, but the price was close to 400$ a night, and meals were about 80-90$ for 4 people.

Warm regards Zora! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the privacy and premium quality of our glamping accommodations, as well as the included breakfast. Our team works hard to ensure that our guests have a unique and comfortable experience, so it's wonderful to know you fully appreciated these aspects. We regret that your expectations regarding available activities and service speed were not fully met. As a secluded island getaway, we strive to offer a tranquil and immersive experience that connects our guests with nature. While our island’s size may be more intimate compared to other destinations, many of our guests find this intimate setup to be a significant part of the charm, allowing for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Regarding the water conditions during your visit, you are correct that seasonal changes can impact the appearance of the shoreline and waters. We apologize if heavy rains affected your experience, though it is worth noting that July is a transitional period in our region, which can sometimes lead to natural variations that are beyond our control. We also appreciate your comments about the response times for service. While our staff is dedicated to providing personalized attention, our unique setting does sometimes require a bit more time to accommodate requests, especially given the nature of the glamping experience. However, we are committed to reviewing our procedures to see where improvements can be made. We sincerely apologize for the miscommunication regarding your request for no garlic. We are reviewing what happened and would certainly appreciate further insights from you. It’s important to note that the island's exclusivity and the high level of service we provide are reflected in the pricing, which supports the sustainable and luxurious experience we aim to deliver. We believe that most of our guests, who seek a distinctive and serene retreat, find great value in the unique experience we promise. Again, thank you for your review. We hope that you and your family will consider visiting us again, as we’d love the opportunity to exceed your expectations. Gracias!

Nice little boutique hotel. Very corteous personnel, special mention to Maite and Arturo who go the extra mile to serve customers with excellence and great atittude. Hotel is perfect for a few days of retreat, 4 or 5 days aprox. Great food at restaurant. The beach is not that great (it is black rocky sand), but the overall nature experience makes up for that. The Tents are great and with great views.
Small Note: hotel should discourage big groups, as once they arrive service goes down and there seems to be preference over groups rather than customers paying higher fares (that are not part of any groups). Also, big groups should be discouraged during these Covid times. That I think was the only negative aspect of our visit.

Thanks Jose Pablo for joining us in this tiny island wonderland of big adventures and larger charm. We are grateful for your comments and your special kudos to Maite and Arturo. They are wonderful hosts! Knowing that you fully enjoyed our unique glamping experience makes us beam with pride. Hi Joe! The waters surrounding the island are not polluted. Unfortunately, seasonal currents sometimes bring about floating debris. We are collaborating with neighbor communities in a collection and recycling program. The months of January-March generally allow for clear water swimming. That said, the Gulf has many currents and we recommend enjoying adventures like kayaking and SUP. Hope this is helpful!
Greetings! August is part of Costa Rica's mid green season. The weather is warm year-round and what distinguishes green season is that there is more rain activity. This usually entails sunny mornings with afternoon showers. The vegetation reaches peak lushness with a full plethora of greens. Perfect for nature lovers!
It would be possible to charter a boat from the Pez Vela Marina. From there, it would take about 2.5 hours to reach the island. If driving, you would have to reach Puntarenas (about two hours by car) and board the Paquera Ferry (about 2 hours). For more details, the Reservations Team will gladly assist.
Hi Jennifer! If you fly into San Jose, you can take land transportation to board the Puntarenas Ferry. Or you can fly from San Jose to Tambor. It is a short ride from Tambor to Paquera.
If you land in Liberia, you can either fly to Tambor or schedule land transportation from Liberia to Paquera.
From Paquera, you hop on a 5 minute boat ride to the island. :)
