We stayed at the property for our mini-moon for 3 nights. The resort was beautiful and service was brilliant as is with all Taj hotels. We were welcomed with a cake and congratulatory balloons in our room which was a nice touch. We stayed in the premium villa with plunge pool - lots of space and the outside area with the swing and the private pool was simply perfect. The food was amazing especially breakfast (the uthapa is a must try)- there is lots of choice for vegetarians and every single meal was good. The only downside was the miscommunication with the staff at the spa meaning that we could only do a certain treatment as opposed to the one we wanted to but all treatments were relaxing and exactly what we needed after our 3-day wedding. The resort is only 1.5 hours drive from Mangalore which was perfect for us. We definitely will return once the pandemic is over! …
We had a great time at Taj, Bekal. The people running the place are so warm and caring and the property is very beautiful. We picked a Deluxe Villa - really liked the design of it - large interior and a private outdoor space as well, perfect for a small family! Jiva Spa here is one of the best in the country, very authentic experience. A cycle trip to the fort nearby was also great fun. Highly recommend!
We had our wedding at the stunning Taj Bekal in October 2019 for 150 guest. We were looking for the perfect Keralan hotel for 2 years when we came across The Taj Bekal. To make a wedding special you need the whole ambiance to be correct. The rooms, food, property, wedding venues, staff all have to be 100% on point! With the Taj that is exactly what we got. I’ll break my review down in to sections to make it easier to follow: The property/location: The property has the beautiful tranquil Keralan backwaters flowing through the hotel and the roaring sea by the beach on the other. They meet with just a strip of sand at one point and it is absolutely incredible to see the two opposites coming together. The rooms in the hotel are very well kept and clean, the villas are gorgeous and have beautiful private patio areas to enjoy. The hotel has an amazing spa service which a lot of our guest commented as having the best treatments at. The communal areas are plentiful and as the property is on a large plot you will never feel like the hotel is crowded or noisy. There are many areas where functions can be held, indoors and outdoors. Overall the peaceful Keralan ambiance is set perfectly. There isn’t much to do outside of the hotel nearby but once you enter the gates at The Taj Bekal you will never want to leave anyway! The restaurants/food: Chef Bijou puts on a beautiful spread EVERY single time! For our wedding especially our guest were so well fed and loved every dish. They were able to cater a wide range of cuisines and kept the menus really balanced and well presented. Chef Bijou is extremely talented, the seafood grill cuisine at By the Bay restaurant is unbelievable, they put a refreshing twist on many Keralan dishes without losing the traditional flavours. The staff: The Taj Bekal is a stunning property but you truly get to experience the Keralan culture through the staff. They go above and beyond for anything and everything. During the course of our wedding planning there was a change in management of the main members of staff that we were dealing with. This made us so anxious about hosting the wedding at the Taj but the way the GM Amit Singh reassured us was like we were family from the very beginning. Shakthi, Shaan and Shiju were SO helpful the whole way through. From making sure we had eaten to ensuring the events ran smoothly, there was nothing that was too much for all of the staff. The ladies at the reception desk, the restaurant and bar staff, every single person always had a smile on their faces and were welcoming to all of us and our guest. We truly felt like we were one big family and that could not have been done if it were not for them. We held 6 events at the hotel and any last minute changes due to weather or preference was handled with elegance and without delay. We will forever be grateful to all of the staff at the Taj. I could write about this hotel forever but if you’re looking for a peaceful luxury hotel then Taj Bekal is definitely the BEST option!…
We just had the buffet lunch at the Tak Bekal and while the meal was wonderful and the service fantastic even by Taj standards there was nothing unusual or very special qbout the meal. Please do not mistake me. The meal was wonderful and the spread great.
I write this review as I leave Taj Bekal with the fondest memories - three blissful days engulfed in true Taj hospitality. I came here with my husband to celebrate our first anniversary and stayed in their Kerala-style premium plunge pool villas. These villas are built so thoughtfully, are modern yet the architectural style is so beautifully inspired by local Kerala art and culture. The plunge pool is squeaky clean and absolutely divine. There's a large swing overlooking the pool and the courtyard and because there is so much greenery around, even in the middle of march we could lie here all day and listen to birds chirp. If you're travelling as a couple, we would urge you to book one of these premium villas - they are private, well-maintained and you will thoroughly enjoy yourselves. The property is a world in itself. Once you're here, you don't and won't step out for a thing. We stayed in for all three nights due to the Coronavirus scare which the property has handled splendidly with heightened sanitization protocols. We kayaked in the day, did archery, enjoyed their complimentary high tea service by the backwaters where a small "thela" style setup was serving hot tea, coffee, hot chocolate and Kerala style pakoras and starters. Such a wonderful touch to add to anyone's stay. By the third day, they started to expect us to turn up right on time for this service :) The beach is a two minute walk from the villas and you can also request for golf carts to take you there. The beach is super clean and well maintained with a few sun beds. Swimming here is prohibited due to high waves and a security personnel is always watching to make sure you're safe. The food - I could write pages about the incredible food served here - especially at their sea-food specialty restaurant By The Bay and this is coming from a vegetarian! My husband (who's non-vegetarian) devoured the curries and biryani and their famed Sea Food Trilogy platter while I chomped down a rice dumpling curry with flaky malabari paratha. The first experience was so good, we decided to eat here on all the three days. We also called for a delish wood-fired oven pizza as in-room dining which we gobbled up in seconds by the pool :) Special shout out to Abin at By The Bay for serving all our meals with the biggest smile and always giving great recommendations. Also, cannot thank F&B Manager Mr. Shakti who personally spoke to guests during high tea to get our feedback and also ensured my husband had crispy hot bacon every day during breakfast even though it wasn't on the menu. The team here notices tiny things and your preferences - after the first day, the staff at breakfast knew we liked to have strong cold coffee and it used to arrive at our table the moment we used to seat ourselves - made strong specially for us :) We unfortunately could not avail spa services because Taj has shut Jiva spas across the country as a step to curb Coronavirus but we did visit it on the first day to see the facilities and the spa is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen. It is one of the largest spas in South East Asia (fact) and if you can, avail one of their "Ayurveda" treatments instead of Indian Aromatherapy because that's a South Indian specialty. wish we could have done the "Abhisheka" - a couple's spa therapy or the Abhyanga - an individual Ayurveda massage - but that's perhaps for next time, and there surely will be one :) It's lush here, it's green and you can birdwatch all day! I don't have adequate words to describe our experience. The way they decorated our room and gave us a complimentary chocolate cake on arrival to celebrate with us, the way so many staff members wished us Happy Anniversary and how the property manager Mr Yash along with Mr Shakti handled our minor hiccups with effective remedial measures is commendable. Thank you Yash and Shakti, you gave us a holiday to remember. Also, shoutout to Biblap from pest control for fumigating our courtyard and burning citronella incense sticks every evening so we could enjoy quiet evenings by the poolside and Ram from housekeeping for looking after us! Cannot wait to be back here again! Sonal & Ritesh Kapoor…
