If you’re thinking of booking the Maldives then you must stay at Finolhu!

Finolhu had been on our radar for about 10 years, so when we decided to travel for my husbands 40th we had to book Finolhu.

We travelled with our 2 young children (4 and 1).

From the moment we stepped off the Virgin plane and were met by a Finolhu representative at the airport we knew we had made the right choice. They whisked us straight to the TransMaldivian desk to put our luggage through then straight on the transfer bus to the seaplane terminal to wait in the lounge. We were worried about the weight especially as we had a suitcase for our infant plus the small pushchair but I think we were lucky and didnt have to pay any extra for the seaplane luggage.

We only sat in Finolhu’s stylish lounge for bout 15 minutes before we were then told it was time for our seaplane transfer. Again we were escorted straight down to the plane by the Finolhu representative. There were about 12 of us on the 30 minute flight over to Finolhu. It was a very hot flight but super interesting. If you can try and sit up the front to watch the pilots fly the plane barefoot!

The welcome at Finolhu was incredible! We were met with about 10 staff waiving at us and they greeted us with cold towels and a coconut drink. Each staff member introduced themselves including the team from the Kids Club who gave my son an Oceaneers backpack and my daughter a Seahorse soft toy. We were then whisked away in a golf buggy to our villa by our Villa representative (butler/concierge) with a little island tour on the way.

Room/Villa
We were assigned villa 317 which to our surprise was an upgrade! We had booked a Private Pool Villa (as we knew we couldn’t be in a water villa with our daughter) and 317 is a Beach Pool Villa and it was amazing. We were overlooking the lagoon side of the island whereas the private pool villas are the other side with a smaller beach. We couldn’t fault anything. The room was spacious even though we had to have a cot in there. There was a great dressing room area with a side table with coffee machine and lots of bottles of water. This is where the mini bar is which, im annoyed to say we hardly used! (We had booked all inclusive premium package so all the drink and food in the mini bar was included - however room service was not part of the package).

Our room had a fantastic pool and we could see through the trees out to the beach and lagoon. There were 2 loungers with a shade as well as a big lounger bed up by villa doors.

All amenities you would need are included. You need to ask for iron/ironing board though. We even got given a pushchair to use for our daughter that was so much easier to push on the sand!

Our butler Nashwan even took us on the buggy to look at some other rooms on offer here which was great. Whilst inside most look the same sort of layout the outside water villas are just incredible. Would love to book a 2 bed ocean villa on our return. We even got to see the rockstar villa!!!

Kids Club
Our son was 4 so the Oceaneers kids club was included. He had said he wasn’t going to go however he practically lived there! As there is no kids pool/area at the main pool, the kids club has a small pool with a slide. They also have lots of toys the kids can play with and armbands to borrow if needed. We visited on our second day to try out the kids pool there and we met Zuha and Rossi who couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. They even convinced our son to stay and play for the rest of the afternoon as they were doing cookie making and then going to the island social at the beach where we could meet at 4.30pm. While we were there the resort was very quiet. I’d say maybe 40% full. Hence the kids club was very quiet. But my son struck up a lovely friendship with Raf who is a boy who lives at Finolhu and so is always at the kids club. We ended up dropping our son there every day so he could take part in the fun activities the team put on. He had so much fun and didn’t want to leave some days! The team there really were amazing and we cant recommend them more! Zuha and Rossi even became our babysitters when we booked to go snorkelling early one morning on the resorts free snorkelling trips to the reef. We had to pay for this to look after our 2 kids but it was worth it. We knew they were in great hands!

Restaurants
As mentioned we had booked the premium AI package which i think is worth it if you like to eat and drink!

The Beach Kitchen
This was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and overlooks the main pool and the beach. This was buffet style. We aren’t usually a big fan of buffets however this one was great and always had an array of things to choose from. For breakfast the made to order eggs Benedict were amazing! The chef even makes animal shaped pancakes for the kids which was sweet. Breakfast ended at 10.30am. We also ate here for lunch on the days the crab shack wasn’t open (or the weather was a bit iffy). Again no complaints. Only ate one evening for dinner on the day of our arrival but they have different theme nights every evening and it all looked amazing.

Arabian Grill
We ate here for 2 nights. A lovely location overlooking the beach (next to the Beach Kitchen). We sat the first time outside on the beach but the last evening inside. The food was delicious. It wasn’t our favourite restaurant but we still could have eaten there most nights.

Kanusan
This was the best! Think we ended up eating there 3 or 4 times and it was worth it! There are both outside and inside options. There’s also a nice bar looking back over to the beach kitchen and over the water. We chose a few items on the menu that were extra (Wagyu tacos & the steak!!). Whilst we didnt mind paying I do think that if you have paid for the premium AI package then you shouldn’t have to pay for these. There is a supplement price on the menu for AI and AI premium guests clearly for you to see. The food here was just incredible.

The Crab Shack
WOW! Definitely the wow factor for Finolhu. As we had the kids we ended up getting the boat from the main pier to the Crab Shack most days.(You can out the pushchair on it). We really enjoyed every journey. The staff are so excited if they see any turtles or other animals and get you to have a look. The setting of the Crab Shack is great so picturesque. Again food here was great! We had most lunches here. Also came to the Full Moon party which was like a big buffet (included for AI premium) and also the White Party (Friday). Just such a great vibe. LOVED IT!

Milk Lab
As part of premium AI package we could also use the Milk Lab. But ashamed to say we only went once!! So cant comment much on this.

Pool
The pool looks beautiful. And has a swim up bar which is always a bonus!! The only slight downside is that the pool is extremely deep!! For most of it I couldn’t touch the bottom. This made it slightly awkward for the kids but with the arm bands and floats we managed it! The big island in the middle helped!

Spa
Both myself and my husband were able to have a massage at the spa and it was heaven! Wish we could have used it more!

Staff
The main WOW factor for this resort is the staff. Every single person we encountered were so friendly and helpful. Ive already mentioned the kids club staff Zuha & Rossi - amazing! Staff on the crab shack boat (and for our dolphin excursion) were so great! They had my son driving the boat and looking out for turtles and dolphins. All restaurant staff were sooooo good! Wish we could remember and mention everyone because they seriously all made our holiday amazing. They were so great with the kids. From the pool bar staff, to the team in the Beach Kitchen to the Crab Shack they made every single meal enjoyable. If our kids were whingy or unhappy they were so quick to come help, take them for a walk, bring pens and paper for drawing. They couldn’t do enough for us. Her is just a small list of those whose names we can remember:
Elina - guest services director (amazing lady!!!)
Nashwan - our villa butler. Amazing guy so helpful and always willing to help us.
Nasheed
Siraj
Samey
Azleen
Umey
Ricky
Di Maria
Upal
Adam
Messi
Abhlo
Alix
Ali

I wish we could remember everyone’s names. Big shout out to the team on the boat who were exceptional. Brilliant worth my kids. Sorry we cant remember all of your names!

Weather
We were worried before we arrived as we had heard it had been raining a lot however we were super lucky and had mostly great days. It did rain a lot over night but during the day we only had maybe 2 afternoons with rain. We travelled end of Nov/beginning of Dec.

There so much to say about how great this place is. We will definitely be back!

My Wife and I had the Maldives on our "bucket list", so when our 25th anniversary came along, we decided to go for it. So many people had recommended it as a destination.
We can honestly say, that even their glowing positive comments did not do it justice. Finolhu was the most beautiful, idyllic and peaceful holiday we have ever had (and we have been to some fabulous locations)
Everything about this resort from the rooms, to the facilities, to the food and the staff was perfect (did I mention the food? OMG!)
We booked all inclusive Premium, and we were glad we went for the extra cost, because frankly the prices on resort are ridiculous (really, really ridiculous). With the all inclusive option, all the food and drink is top quality (unless you want to buy stuff from the so called "exclusive" menu - which there is absolutely no need to).

The rooms (even the "basic" ones) are enormous and wonderfully appointed, making good use of the lovely climate to provide outside showers etc.
The beaches and facilities are spotlessly clean and pristine. Everything about the the resort is relaxed, friendly and the staff and service are fabulous.
I could easily write another 1000 characters on this, but is still wouldn't do it justice. Just . . . Go.

We loved our honeymoon at finolhu!! It was difficult choosing between the many excellent resorts in the Maldives because so many are five stars and well rated, but we were so pleased we choose this one.

We got the ocean view over water Villa with pool and it is one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. Everyone at this resort is so kind, and friendly and truly interested in giving you a 5 star stay. We were so pleased with our stay, we decided to come back to the maldives in 3 months. Upon our second round of research, we realized how lucky we were to stay here. Finolhu stands out as a great resort because it offers 4 dining locations. When you're on one island for several days, it's great to have options. Most resorts only have 3. We ate at each of the restaurants and found the buffet of excellent quality. The Mediterranean and Asian cuisines were very good a la carte restaurants for a reasonable cost. Finolhu is also one of the few resorts that includes alcohol as part of their all inclusive package. Others that we looked into (Westin, W) do not. We knew that they also offered a drinks package based off reviews, but when we asked upon check in he said there wasn't one. Later on on our stay, a bartender asked us why we didn't have a drink package. He was able to set one up, it's $68 a person per day. Next time, I'd be more pushy as they definitley have a just drinks package.

We stayed at the very end of the road to the villas (about a 15 minute walk to the center). We found it best to call a buggy, and it came within 7 minutes to pick you up. It was definitely a plus being out there and feeling private, but a bit of a walk if you don't call yourself a buggy to grab you. My husband used the gym each day and said it was mostly empty and very good quality.!

Even though it was high season when we went, they make a point to have so many options for you to relax, that you never feel you can't have the chair or seat, or beach spot of your choosing. We never felt crowded, or that there wasn't a person a second away to take care of your needs.

And finally, they made us feel so special. It was both our honeymoon and my birthday and they decorated our room twice and gave us champagne twice, poured a rose bubble bath, and gave us a free honeymoon dinner. In all, we felt so pampered and cared for, it was an unbelievable experience. We can't wait to come back!

Just arrived home from a amazing time at the Finolhu. It was everything and more than I expected.

We were greeted at the airport, checked on to the Sea Plane then whisked off to a nice lounge with free drinks and snacks

The staff are amazing from the grounds keepers, cleaners and bar staff, always greeting us with a big smile and a hello.

We were greeted off the Seaplane by a warm welcoming party. Given a brief but informative tour of what we needed to see. Then shown to our Water Villa.

Even on our departure we were greeted at the airport from the Sea Plane helped with our bags. The staff made sure we knew which desk we needed to check our bags into and stayed with us until we were all sorted.

The staff at the resort were great thought-out our stay. Remembering the little details like our drinks orders, we never went without a drink around the pool. And even specking to us about it being the last day of our trip, wishing us a safe journey home.

The WhatsApp system the hotel runs is great and allows you book meals and spa treats without any trouble.

The food was great. I’m quite fussy and ate really well. The crab Shack is definitely worth the walk.

I would definitely return to the resort.

Only a couple of little things out of the whole week.

On the Sea Plane they couldn’t fit all our bags on so one had to follow on another Plane but it didn’t really course a problem and was in the room when we returned from lunch.

We totally understand that the mini bar wasn’t included in our package but when we read the price menu we didn’t take into account that we would have to pay 12% tax and 20% service charge. Making a $9 beer more like $12. Also for the first 3 days it was stocked up every morning but later on in the week we had to chance it up to be filled

Dear Lauren, I am thrilled to learn about your vacation and it was definitely a pleasure to host you at Finolhu! It was lovely to have you with us on the island and many thanks for all the kind words about your experience. We have well noted your comments about the prices of the mini bar, however it is such a common practice in Maldives to add 10% service charge and 12% government tax to any sold items or services. I thank you for these comments, as it is very valuable to learn certain things that should be improved. Looking forward to seeing you soon again! Take care, Anna

What an amazing destination. We knew the Maldives would be beautiful, but the quality of this resort was exceptional. We chose to purchase the premium package which gave us additional options on dining and drinks - this was well worth it.
Cost of extras (spa, tours) were expensive, however there was plenty of other ways to relax and enjoy the location.

We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and this was the ideal place. They looked after us well and then provided us with a specially prepared table on the beach for our anniversary dinner.

Entire experience was exceptional. I would recommend to any couple wanting a lovely romantic, relaxing, quality resort experience.

I will definitely pass your good words to the rest of the team, to each and everyone, who made it so special for you. It was absolutely lovely to meet you and take care of you during your stay! Many thanks for your constructive feedback in terms of extras, however we have conducted the price comparison among our competitors, and must say - we are right on the line. I am glad to know that the anniversary celebration went well and we are looking forward to having you back on our Paradise island! Best regards, Anna

This place is out of this world. Amazing people, food was stunning, beach is kept extremely well, very clean. Shout out to Shiyam and the other guys at the beach club they are above and beyond amazing. Our cleaner was lovely in room 116. The gardeners keep island looking stunning and all the staff in the restaurants were so nice.
In your room you can request an Iron and board, i emailed before we came and it was in room ready.
You get Shower gel, conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, handy little bits like on photos cotton pads, hair band, shower cap, sewing kit, sanitise pads, nail file and cotton wool sticks.
There are flip flops left, slippers, robe and a beach bag to use which you can buy if you want to keep it. Everyone was using the beach bag and if i knew this i wouldn't have bothered wasting space in my luggage. Great idea though.
There's life jackets in room, i suggest you use it as i got a bit caught out one day when sea was a bit choppy.
We were on Standard All Inclusive for 2 weeks, which gave you 1 visit to each of the restaurants. The buffet is soooooooooo nice you won't care that you only get one visit in each.
Drinks are lovely and lots to choose from on standard All inclusive.
You get Iced Tea, water and cold towels at the beach club every day at about 10.30am before the bar opens at 11am.
Just to note, when we landed in Male with BA at about 10am we were driven to the Finolhu lounge, here we only waited 30 mins for the seaplane. Which is amazing so get your cameras out.
We didn't want to leave we even had tears the morning we left.
We tipped a few because we wanted to and not that we felt we had too.
Not sure any other island will compete with this place so we may be back one day.
Thank you for a fantastic holiday Finolhu
Oh and i got proposed to, which i said YES!!!!!

Starting with the location, which is just perfect with the large lagoon on the one side, protected from the oceanic waves and a wonderful house reef on the other side. Furthermore you do have a lot of space to really enjoy the island in peace, you can go for long walks along the beach (or runs) but you can also choose one of the nice hotel restaurants / bars if you are looking for music, people, games,...
Depending on which villa you are booking, every category has its own advantages and it totally depends what your own requirements are - a beach villa with direct access to the beach, lagoon villas with direct access to the water in the lagoon or ocean villas with direct access to the house reef but all of the mentioned can also be enjoyed if you are in another villa category.
Restaurants where good too, service excellent, food worth trying new / unknown dishes. When booking All inclusive you will have one visit in each restaurant included and when e.g. booking half board you do get a 50 Euro voucher per person for each restaurant. For half board, still and sparkling water is always for free in the restaurants as well as in the villas. In the villas you do also have coffee and tea.
Dive center offers really great tours, e.g. if it is the season you must go to see the Mantas.
Non motorized water sports are for free.
If there is the chance, although comparably expensive, you should stay one night in the bubble. A once in the lifetime experience!
And last but not least, the service was just great, at every place, the restaurants, the reception, the dive center,... What was also great is that you can communicate with the hotel team via 1 of 4 possible communication tools, e.g. whatsapp, which helped a lot when e.g booking tables in the restaurants, communicating with the dive center for tours,...
I think there is a lot more to say about this place but you best try it yourself - it is definitely worth it.
THANKS Finolhu Team / Family

We stayed at Finolhu for 9 nights and loved every minute of it! From the moment you land at the resort you are welcomed by a number of staff and immediately feel like you’re in paradise.

We stayed in the water lagoon room which had the most incredible sunrises between 7am and 8am each morning and allowed you to snorkel out to sea from your room.

Aside from the beauty of the island, the food at the restaurants was also very high quality. We upgraded to premium all inclusive which meant we were able to eat at the A La Carte restaurants every evening and had the option to eat at the Crab Shack for lunch. I would definitely recommend upgrading for this reason alone.

The service that we experienced was 5*, from the cleaning of the rooms to the waiters in the restaurants. We would like to thank Levin in particular for his attentive and enjoyable service at the restaurants, he is a credit to the resort.

Finally, we would like to recommend the Dinner on the Beach experience which was the most romantic setting for a post engagement dinner. The food was outstanding and our engagement evening would not have been the same without it!

Finolhu is a very special place and we would not hesitate to book this resort again.

The Finolhu resort is truly wonderful. The staff are exceptionally attentive and kind, they are all a huge credit to the hotel. It is their warmth towards guests which makes the hotel so special. The rooms are all extremely spacious, with either beach villas with or without pools that have direct beach access or over water villas. Each room has been recently been refurbished to the highest standard and the bathrooms are heavenly, with outdoor showers and a huge amount of space. From
either the beach villas or the water villas you can snorkel straight out of your room and see the reef teaming with fish. We were lucky enough to se one small black tip shark too. The food is incredible- most meals were taken at the Beack Kitchen where the catering staff surpass themselves with desserts, pattiseries, fresh bread and a choice of almost anything you could wish to sample. A Friday BBQ at the Crab Shack is an absolute must, take the boat from the jetty and dine Robinson Crusoe style! There are an enormous amount of activities for children and teenagers. A genius idea is a discretely placed cool inflatable water park that keeps the children busy for hours. It’s really not a surprise to hear that most of their customers are returning guests. Well done to Marc, Christoph and their wonderful team.

When we were there Crabshack was open for lunch everyday so we would have been able to have a drink while using the sunbeds there
