#3 of 19 B&Bs / Inns in Panglao Island
Built in a contemporary Asian style and set in the midst of nature with bamboo trees around and the waves swooshing as far as your eyes could see, this resort inspires nothing else but tranquility and well-being. A dip into the crystal blue-green water in front with your snorkeling gear could make you discover a marvelous display of corals and clown fish and for sand loungers, we have a sandy white beach for you to lie on with a book or just to tweak your toes into the fine sand while basking in the sun.

After travelling the Philippines for 6 weeks I think I have a good idea what things should cost in this country. This room was very overpriced, the location is really bad, there is nothing around it, the next nice beach is 15 min away by motorcycle. Even with your own motorcycle it was annoying to drive 15min for everything. My room was clean but the many dogs that walk around the hotel, makes it hard to have a clean feeling. The room was ok but a cheap foam mattress is probably not accurate for that price range. The owners are really nice but couldn’t make up for the other shortfalls.

Dear guests, thank you for your stay and my great regret that you didn't appreciate our place at all. I believe that this is truly an issue of bad choice in your part which could have been avoided if you had given a little time and effort to do some research of the hotel you are going to stay. If it would answer to the needs and expectations of your stay. You came to Bohol mainly to dive and went out every morning to your dive shop in the alona area so you could have been better off staying in that area if the fifteen- minute in your motorbike was too much for you. In our hotel description place, it is clearly stated there that we are midway between the city and the alona area, twenty- minutes away on each side. Also, even the reviews of our guests, negative as well as positive would tell you of this point. Some have loved our place because of the tranquility and surrounding nature that they desire while you, with your diving saw only inconvenience. I believe, being in the high season, you didn't have much choice and you just chose randomly for whatever had rooms still left. Furthermore, when you were shown the room, you were asked if you liked it and you have replied in a positive way. We never oblige our guests to stay if they find our place unsatisfactory because for us, an unhappy guests is a source of stress. Regarding our mattress, it is the first time that this two-hundred dollar thing has been criticized as uncomfortable and cheap though to be fair to your comment, we would still have somebody with your body size and weight to try it to see if the comfort is slightly wanting then. Thanks anyway for your feedback.

My 3 day stay at La Parnela was one of those you won't forget, in a very positive way. The resort is clean, spacious and tranquil, situated close to the shore. The garden is stunning, romantic and well maintained with a large pool with terraces to relax in a long chair. The rooms are of excellent quality and clean with wifi. The host is truely very accomodating, helpful and friendly. The meals she prepares are top quality!

It’s hard to find peace and quiet these days as life is becoming increasingly noisy, most especially if you live in an urban jungle. And when you need some reset from all the hustle and bustle of city life, La Pernela is just the place to be! Located in a rather secluded area down a hill in Dauis, but not far from "where the action is" that is Alona, you'd find this quaint place with its pools and lovely garden. My son and I were personally welcomed by its bubbly and gracious owner (and lovely pet dogs), who provided a thorough orientation about the resort and nearby places. And just a few minutes walk further down the hill would lead you to a small, secluded beach with the finest white sand and clear waters, where you can see and even swim with schools of fishes. No crowds here at all! At La Pernela, you wake up to the calming sound of the not so distant waves and the chirping of birds. Meals are served in the garden patio where you get a peek of the ocean. And did I mention the food is really, really good?! Yes, you'd be served love on a plate. The place is beyond peace and quiet. It feels like home. From Gab, "Mercì et a la prochaine!"

Stayed here with my son and some friends. Although it was a short stay, La Pernela gave the quiet and rest that I need and want but also provide the opportunity to see the beauty of Bohol. The place is clean, and quiet and I like that they put personal touch in the small details. Appreciate our host for making sure we enjoyed and made the most of our stay by providing our transport, gave tips on where to go and dine. Over all, La Pernela is a nice hotel. Will be back, and would love to stay in La Pernela again.

We stayed for 6 days and in the end, all we could do is laugh at how we had been duped. We would have raised this all at the resort - but it’s mostly stuff that can’t just be changed. Others staying at the ‘resort’ were saying the same thing - they felt deceived from what they booked online to what reality is. Actually from here, let’s call it a motel because it is certainly not a resort. It’s a 10 room place well off the beaten track, perfect to relax - that’s if you can given how the actual place is run.. We’re pretty easy people but we feel the need to get a few things off our chest; Dogs. There are about 8 or 9 dogs that live at the property and pretty much run the place. We are dog people, but even this was too much. When you want to eat, they’ll be right there with you. They bark all hours, they smell and some you can’t even go near as they’re aggressive. The reception area is basically their area hence the door always being closed. Enter at your own risk. Restaurant. Outside of the included breakfast, the restaurant is non existent. It was made clear when we checked in that they would prefer we eat elsewhere.. Frustrating given then fact that there is only one place within walking distance (Spanish Tapas). This should not be listed as a facility when you don’t want to offer it. You can’t order lunch, you can’t order snacks, you can’t order dinner. You can’t order room service.. I actually never even saw anything that slightly resembled a menu nor was it ever offered or mentioned. On the note of breakfast, it’s OK - we only had it a couple of times and that was enough to know that it wasn’t worth it. The bar. Again, non existent. A few San Miguel beers and that’s it, cold if you are lucky. Shouldn’t be listed as a facility at all. Laundry. Again, listed as a facility but when asked - we were told to take it elsewhere. How convenient Beachfront. This is a lie. The motel is not beachfront, it’s far from it. There is a muddy road, then a 10 foot high bamboo fence to a backpackers meaning no sea view. To get to the beach, walk roughly 600m to the right and you will find a rubbish littered hangout for locals with endless stray animals. It’s very dirty, which is a shame because it could be beautiful. The rooms. They’re basic, with very noisy older style air conditioning units. We had to sleep with ear plugs to block out the air con rattle (and those barking dogs). The showers are a trickle but enough to get wet. Our sink didn’t have running water - the tap fell apart on first use. No cable TV which is listed as a facility but we didn’t care, we didn’t come to watch TV. The beds are slightly comfortable. The pillows are like a rock. The pool. There’s 4 pools of which only 1 is used here - the rest are either empty or filled with stagnant water that’s growing stuff (see photos). The main pool is faulty as in the water doesn’t circulate - the bottom is filled with debris and creatures. They just put chlorine in regularly to keep it a blue colour. Gross. Given how hot it was, we swam in it which was an experience we won’t relive any time soon. Overall, the experience was beyond poor. We paid $1,000 NZD for something that was far from what it should have been. You are operating a place that people book given the online description including what facilities there are and if you don’t actually offer them, then that is deceiving people. If we had paid much less given the lack of facilities and ‘beachfront’, I wouldn’t have any problem calling this a 3 Star but given what we paid for what we got, it’s a 1 Star.

Dear guest! Thanks for your stay. But my..my! What a list of complaints you have here and yet not a slightest word of it to us who would have done our very best to correct them or help you transfer to another hotel especially when you only paid us on your last day of stay. As manager with only the comfort and satisfaction of my guests at heart, I need to sort out your complaints for the ones that we need to correct from those we just have to ignore because of their contradictory status. You said you are easy people but on your first night you were banging your door just because some guests were talking near your door at nine in the evening. Why keep slamming your door and provoke conflict almost when you could have simply ask them to lower their voice? You complained the presence of our pet dogs when you yourself and your friends wanted me to take in the kittens and puppies you have found in the road outside which I had to refuse you. You found my pool dirty, so "gross" as you said yet you and your friends spent most of the day everyday near it with your shopping bags of liquor bottles. As for in-house restaurant or any restaurant nearby for that matter, I didn't think you were in need to go to one since either by desire or due to some stomach disorder, you were just buying noodle soup and eating them in your room. And most of all you described our hotel in your other review, "it's quiet and that's it" but you complained too of our dogs barking at all hours of the day. So what is true or false? Anyway, I thank you for telling us these things that we could still correct and hope that in other hotels you would find yourself in the future, you could give the management a chance to serve you better and especially the benefit of a doubt that they are there to snatch away under the rock pillow your hard-earned Nz dollars.
