Greeted by the owner Herolf as we arrived, shown to our poolside rooms that backed on to the Jungle. The wall was meshed and we could sit and relax to the sounds of nature. Totally serene and peaceful, the pool was beautiful and across the small road we walked to the beach bar. The beach was pristine and the Caribbean was all that was expected. Everyone was friendly and we can only say...'thanks for everything Herolf'

Seriously perfection. Greeted immediately by the sweet manager Chaco who eased us into the experience. The property is zen like and well tended. The pool and lounge areas are gorgeous. The room was stunning-canopy bed, artisan furniture, everything you need down to rainbow umbrellas for afternoon rain spells. Then you have the idyllic beach 20 meters in front of you with their restaurant serving you exactly what you need. We will be coming back again soon to relax and recharge. Thank you Island Plantation for giving us the perfect vacation!

My partner and I had 2 lovely nights at this hotel! At first, I was a bit worried knowing it didn't have AC, but I slept so well at night and even had to turn the fan down because I felt cold. The screens also provided a nice breeze at night. The room was beautiful and spacious and we loved the semi outdoor shower! The pool was so nice to take a dip when you were getting too hot and the beach was just across the road. Choco was so nice and was always quick to respond with any questions or help we needed. The only thing we wished we realized that you could not to tours from the Bluff area. You needed to take a $15 taxi back into town, but we should have known that beforehand. We had such a nice stay!

Island Plantation is a beautiful eco resort on the famous Bocas Bluff Beach, and it is truly a tropical paradise! The perfect balance of off-the-grid but still accessible (wifi and ample taxi services), we loved disconnecting from our lives but being online to search for local hangouts and excursions. Bluff Beach is just a few meters from the hotel rooms, with the adorable Bom Bom beach bar and miles of postcard sandy beaches and breaking waves. Zapatillas island is a must-see picture perfect beach just a short boat ride from Bocas town. Tons of cute restaurants and street stores if you feel like going to town, or just stay on the beach and eat and drink and relax for days on end! We had a blast and will definitely return.

We loved our stay at Island plantation, when we arrived we had a beautiful room just in front of the swimming pool where you can bath anytime. The beach is at walk distance and you may have the possibility to see turtles… monkeys are also around. Our stay was incredibly pleasant thanks to Choko- the manager of the hotel, the service and advices he offered were great. He would check in regularly with customers. Breakfast is at the beach and delicious. We surely recommend this lovely place for its connection to nature and their service as well as their food.

We booked a two story bungalow for a week in April. Island Plantation fulfilled all our expectations and we would go back anytime. If you looking for lots of choices for bars and restaurants look in town. We were searching for isolation and relaxation in a beutiful setting and that is what we recieved. The restaurant was not open yet but the beach bar is fantastic and Chis and the staff were great all week. There are three really good places to eat nearby and we had a full kitchen and cooked at home a couple of times. We had a view through the garden to the ocean and one morning a sloth was eating right outside our window. Choco was always available for reservations and advice. One day my wife left her phone in a cab and Choco was able to track it down and have it returned within an hour. After two years of pandemic living in Brooklyn this peaceful interlude at Island Plantation was a tonic. Many thanks to Herloff and his staff. If the above fits your needs please stay at Island Plantation.

We stayed at Island Plantation Monday to Friday in April 2022. The resort itself is beautiful and has so much potential. However, post pandemic, this resort is no longer as advertised on its website. A week prior to our stay, we received a detailed email about what to expect, (or rather NOT to expect) during our stay. I won’t detail every item, but I will say the lack of a functioning restaurant or even a bar on the resort grounds was a major disappointment. Every meal/snack/drink has to be purchased in town, at other close by resorts, or at the Bom Bom beach bar, which is owned by the resort, but outside the grounds across the street. Also, be aware that the beach bar is open from 8am to 5pm everyday. You must go elsewhere for food and drinks outside those hours. You can call this resort “beach front” but there is a road that separates all guests from the beach. While not a busy road (mostly bicycles, ATVs and occasional taxis for guests coming and going), you still need to leave the premises of the compound. The front door to the compound had a digital lock when we arrived, but on the second day it broke and was replaced with a lock and key which we were provided. However, after it was installed, it was never locked. People come and go without the key, as the Bom Bom Beach Bar supplies are all on the resort so the workers must run back and forth. By no means did it feel unsafe, but just not as expected. The pool in the compound was AMAZING, and a life saver because the ocean was too rough to swim for most of our stay, but anytime you want a drink or food, you must leave the compound and go across the street and order. Then you can wait, or come back again later once it’s ready. They will not bring it to the pool. The second night, the power went out on the whole resort at 8pm till 7am the next day because there was a problem with the generator which was not able to charge the batteries. My partner and I were the only people at the resort that evening, so manageable for the owners (who actually left the property for the evening when the power went out), but still not ideal for us. The whole resort runs off of solar and rain water. Keeping generators operational should be a part of a daily check list vs, finding out the batteries didn’t charge all day after the power goes out. The manager on-site was very responsive and went above and beyond every time we reached out. Unfortunately he is not the owners, who seemed to have almost given up on the property post-pandemic. Every other hotel/restaurant we went to during our stay, the owners were there greeting us as their own. We never saw the owners of Island Plantation. All in all, great location and the staff were amazing, but a little misleading on the website for the experience they claim to offer. Charging the same price for half the experience. There is a fully built kitchen and restaurant that is 1/3 of the property and is abandoned on site and it’s a real missed opportunity, especially when every hotel nearby offers drinks and food. Not great that we had to walk 5-10 minutes in the dark and rain to eat every night to eat with others staying at their own resorts. The compound itself is so nice, I would have never left the grounds if I didn’t have to (as advertised). Who knows what their future plans are, but I would contact before booking. Also, while it is in fine print on their site, be fully aware that there is limited water and power at all times, so no AC, no in room fridge for anything you bring on-site, limited house keeping and lighting, and signs everywhere to conserve. Aka don’t flush if you don’t have to!

A very nice hotel with a great and quiet pool area, a beach bar and a large and lush garden. The hotel is right at the beautiful Bluff Beach. The staff is very nice and helpful. They also help you organize excursions, etc. I even got a free late check-out and was able to enjoy this little paradise a few more hours. A very nice place to relax! Thank you for everything

We spent two (2) nights at Island Plantation in June 2021. The grounds are absolutely incredible and something you would see out of a tourism guide. The caretaker, Choco, met us and showed us to our room and was available throughout our stay for any needs or questions we might have. Although the road to get to Playa Bluff is exceptionally rough (~20min each way, $15 cab fare), once you made it to Island Plantation you felt like you were in a completely different world. Although none of the restaurants were open during our stay because of covid, we hope to one day return and enjoy the full atmosphere of Island Plantation. It was a bit of a challenge to find food since many of the hotels/restaurants in Playa Bluff are closed - make sure you WhatsApp ahead before you depart Bocas Town. Breakfast was served on site every morning! Overall, Island Plantation was one of the most beautiful boutique hotels we have ever stayed in. Highly recommended!

Our second trip to IP...after much drama and two cancellations due to travel restrictions, we finally were able to get all of our schedules lined up and head to Bocas (13 in the group) in April. This was originally scheduled for XMAS 2020 week but with travel restrictions and health concerns we decided to wait - Herolf and the IP staff were so understanding and flexible - I can't imagine the amount of travel issues his team had to deal with during the last year. We were concerned what the conditions were going to be like after a year of being virtually empty...I can say we were so surprised and happy to get back to IP. The place is great...we were able to have the place to ourselves and Herolf set-up a team to try and give us the same experience we had pre-Covid. This was not an easy task given the IP staff was normally over 20 strong and it was down to less than 5 - but we communicated with Herolf several times and he did everything in his power to deliver a very memorable week for the group - and he succeeded beyond expectations. Food was great, meals were served in a group setting to minimize stress on the kitchen but it worked out perfectly for our group - cheers to the Chef and her help, they did a great job. This is a special place - the beach is beautiful and we had 4 miles of beach to ourselves - it was sad to realize the beach bar would not be the lively place it was in 2019 but Herolf opened it up for us and we hung out there every day enjoying the waves, the beers and the great cushioned couches at the Bon Bon...many cribbage games, many scrabble games and a bunch of great memories for the week. If you like to be off the beaten path while maintaining a high level of service, healthy and fresh food and beautifully designed villas - put IP on your list of places to visit. Also, many of us were working remotely and the wifi was sufficient for all our needs...wish I was still there! Thanks again to Herolf, Choco, JP and Christine and the rest of the IP helpers for a great week. Hope to see you again down the line.
