Firstly this review is based on our stay during the Covid restrictions.

This meant the hotel was at an occupancy rate around 40% so lower than normal. So pool area very quiet although its in a tranquil, beautiful setting. No issue with loungers/ sun umbrellas and good service from the pool bar.

There's normally a shuttle bus but this wasn't running due to Covid so taxi to Carvoeiro (10 mins and around 10 Euros)

Hotel rooms great: huge beds, air con, mini bar and modern bathroom and most importantly for me it was very quiet.

Whole place spotless and staff on reception 24/7 and very helpful. Spa area was open with treatments available as well as steam room, sauna and hot tub.

Low occupancy meant no evening bar or restaurant but there's a great place next door, Brasserie Rosal, we ate there every evening (Two of the party vegetarians) and good service.

Carvoeiro nearest town with bars, shops and we had several enjoyable evenings there.

Would definitely stay at the Hotel again

A lovely hotel in beautiful gardens and surroundings, the grounds to the hotel were beautifully kept with lots of birds feeding on the grass. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice and warm freshly baked bread and pastries.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a good 10/15 mins drive out of town so a car is recommended , there is a free shuttle but times are limited, and no other restaurants locally . Water bottles are filled for free in the pool bar, so bring your own refillable bottle and it’s easy to keep hydrated and take you bottle out with you.
The only slight gripe we had was a charge of 3 euros to change your pool towel, we didn’t have a balcony so our towel was often damp in the morning as we couldn’t dry it, I understand they want to cut down on unnecessary washing of towels but a towel not being washed with sunscreen drying into it for a week (even 2) must be harder to get clean than a damp 1 day use towel.
I would recommend this hotel and stay again.

Dear Alison, Thank you very much for your comment and for the mentions of our spaces, the staff, the care we take in offering the water (not the bottle); Thank you!. As far as towels are concerned, our region is indeed going through a period in which the use of water has to be taken very seriously and sometimes deterrent methods and awareness are needed. It is not a question of charging but of awareness and I can assure you that at the reception, talking, it is possible to resolve the vast majority of issues in relation to stays. I can also tell you that we did change the towels for guests a few times and I don't even remember the last time the change was charged. I hope to welcome you again soon, Best regards André Pereira Hotel Manager

The hotel was very nice, and very clean, the room had a large bed, and plenty of storage space, the balcony was small, but had good views over the countryside, low walls at the side of the balcony gave very little privacy from the rooms next to us, there were only 3 plug sockets in the room, they were being used by their lamps and a coffee machine, so we had to unplug and use them. Breakfast was ok, but no egg chef, so eggs were brought out and left to congeal, the bacon was preformed, processed, bacon rashers, not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel, having said that, the cold breakfast, cheese salami ham, and fruit, was very nice, as were the pastries and cakes. The pool was salt water, but needed more umbrella's to accompany the sunbeds, the pool bar was good, the food was very nice, and the drinks reasonably priced, I'll give a mention to Carla, thanks for your help. Most B&B punters including us, went to the resort centre in the evening, some good restaurants to be had there, as this hotel is very remote, the taxi fare each way to the resort and back was 10/15 euros, the hotel provides a free bus, has to be booked, but the times didn't always suit us. The hotel bar in the evening was soulless, had zero atmosphere, on one occasion after returning from the resort centre, we decided to have a drink on the terrace before bed, just us sitting there, when a member of staff came out, said nothing, turned the lights off, and left us sitting in semi darkness. and last of all, the onsite shop is not quite Harrods, in fact it's not quite anything, total waste of space, unless you want flip-flops or a beachball.

Dear Michaele Thank you for taking the time to describe your experience. Thanks also for mentioning Carla; Our employees are, in fact, spectacular. I would like to assure you that the components of our breakfast are as fresh as possible; Most of them were made on the spot. As for the other points you make, I believe that it is a matter of perspective, parasols, for example, tend to be left over frequently; However, we will take a deep look at what you describe. picturesque hotel in a gorgeous country setting, surrounded by green grass, mature trees and shrubs, with a stream running through the grass into a pond (which needs treated as its quite stagnant). perfect for peaceful getaways but own transport is a must, if you dont want to be shelling out on taxi fares, as it's not within walking distance of anything, but only a short drive to sand city, zoomarine and slide and splash,
main pool is fine, not too large , but neither is hotel so thats not an issue, only complaint is the lack of concern by staff over a feral cat which is a regular visitor at meal times , and staff allowing it to be fed by inconsiderate guests, from hotel kitchenware, this was reported as unacceptable.
beds and rooms are perfect, beds especially comfortable, only gripe is lack of free plugs in rooms, so lights need to be unplugged for chargers etc..
staff at reception very welcoming, one female senior restaurant staff member however needs to be reminded of how to treat guests, even if she is under pressure from high number of new arrivals in her restaurant.
food is very good, especially the fruit, which is superb, and a varied selection was available from the buffets each meal time.. only issue is charge for bottle of water to the table (an issue at other hotels too probably), as in 36-40 degrees heat one would appreciate free and unlimited supply of water, especially with children.
was there with one child and couple of adults for a week, would def go back for a break as overall the experience was almost perfect.

My wife & I stayed at the Vale d’el Rei for 4 nights in early October. We visit the Algarve around twice a year and I have to say this is one of the best if not the best hotel we have stayed at in our many visits.
First of all, the grounds the hotel sits in are extensive & immaculately kept. There are 2/3 pools, the main pool is salt water and heated during the colder months and is perfect for swimming in. There are enough sun beds, of good quality, to go round & we never once saw beds being reserved by the “crack of dawn brigade”
Breakfast is served around the pool area & is a buffet style with plenty of good quality hot & cold options and all overseen by a very efficient & friendly staff who are constantly clearing, cleaning & replenishing food. A wonderful start to each day.
We stayed in a suite, which was amazing value for money. It consisted of, an entrance area, a bathroom with overhead shower, a lounge with balcony off & a bedroom with a gigantic comfortable bed with good quality bed linen, double wardrobes with plenty of hangers and a safe that you didn’t have to pay extra to use.
If there is a negative & I would have to search very hard for one, it’s that it’s a little remote. Although the hotel does provide a shuttle bus that runs into and from Carvoeiro several times a day. I would recommend you had a hire car which we always use when we visit the Algarve.
This tiny negative would 1 million% not stop us visiting again & I have already enquired for our stay in 2024.

Well done all at Vale d’el Rei, look forward to seeing you again next year.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 7 days last week and I cannot fault the hotel and how helpful the staff were during the off season. Lucas helped us a lot with booking Kayak's, Bicycles and storing the bicycles whilst we were out. Daniel also agreed to let us stay in our room later as our flight was 6:15 and check out was 12pm. The breakfast was very nice and the bed is soo comfortable.

The only thing to prepare for is travel, we hired bicycles for 2/3 days so we could travel to the next few towns but apart from that we spent quite a bit of money on taxi's. My advice, rent a car or spare some more cash for taxi's.

(Don't forget the heated pool - Ask the reception where to find it)

Thank you very much to all the staff, we loved it!

We had a pleasant week at this hotel in July this year. Firstly the hotel is well maintained with lovely grounds and is a very relaxing place to stay. There is lots to do locally and places to visit.

For accommodation we had a suite which was ideal; spacious and clean with a nice bathroom, safe, kettle and mini bar. Breakfast is very good although the queue for coffee and the hunt for salt and pepper was a bit of a drag. Evening meals, whilst perfectly tasty were limited in choice and inadequate for vegetarians or people with special dietary requirements. Same limited selection of desserts available all week and no cheese/crackers in the evening. This was obviously disappointing and most of the dishes I could have cooked myself (which is saying something) with pizza/pasta two nights in a row. Evening entertainment is limited at the hotel and most guests seem to retire to their rooms early as there is nothing to do. All the staff work hard and are generally helpful. All in all would recommend hotel but on a bed and breakfast basis.

Just returned from a quick 4 night break , what a lovely place where all staff are really polite happy and very helpful , and hotel is really spotless and gardens well taken care off.
It is very rural but didn’t find that an issue there is a free bus that takes you to carvoeiro which is twice a day I think 🤔 and there is also a bus back too,
However we didn’t use it so can’t comment , we took an Uber which was 10 euro return which worked well for us , we also took an Uber to albufira which was 30 euro return .
The room we had did have a fridge in it with a mini bar which is chargeable a kettle and hairdryer and was ample for our short stay .
The breakfast was superb with plenty to choose from .
They also have a lunch menu and a set evening menu which was 25 euro per person for a 3 course meal which we had for 3 out of our 4 nights which was fantastic . You can look at menu in the afternoon if you are at the hotel to see if it’s to your liking and decide from then , when we were out for the day we just WhatsApp the hotel to see what the menu was for that night and if we didn’t like it we knew we had a choice to eat elsewhere .There is also a sauna Turkish bath and jacuzzi on site which is included in your stay which was great .
Overall a fantastic place and we would return .

The setting of the hotel is lovely, plenty of green space around the rooms and pool. It has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are all really friendly and helpful, the food is ok, a little repetitive but you can find something that you like. The hotel and rooms are spotlessly clean as is the pool area.

A couple of minor tweaks could make this absolutely perfect, there a no shops or restaurants within the vicinity so if you don't have a car you will struggle to get basic supplies, especially if you arrive late at night and after the restaurant is closed, we were lucky and just made it in time but perhaps a vending machine with crisps, biscuits etc would be useful. Also, only the pool bar was open during our stay so the other bar which advertised snacks until later at night wasn't open. It would be lovely if the staff could enforce the no reserving sunbed rules as we had hoped this wouldn't happen at this hotel but unfortunately a number of guests during our stay put towels out to bathe all day before breakfast and the didn't return until after lunch or not at all, this isnt necessary at all, there are plenty of sunbeds for everyone to use if guests would respectfully use them correctly. Also, for tea and coffee in the room, we only had coffee sachets during the whole stay, not tea bags, milk or sugar, there are coffee pods also but they are chargeable. The hotel could make such a lot more money on drinks if they were faster, we would normally have a few drinks with food.

We would definitely return to this hotel, we had a suite and the set up of the room was perfect for us with a teenager, the balcony was huge and we had a hammock. The staff make this a welcome stay.

Responded Sep 1, 2024
Dear Guest, We sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your detailed and positive experience at our hotel. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the setting, the green spaces and the relaxing atmosphere that we endeavour to create. It is also gratifying to receive compliments on the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff, as well as the cleanliness of the facilities and the comfort of the suite. We appreciate your valuable suggestions for further improving our guests' experience. We understand the difficulties related to the lack of shops and restaurants nearby and will pass on the suggestion about installing a vending machine for the convenience of our guests to the responsible department. At this time of year, our guests tend to prefer outdoor settings where they can relax and enjoy our splendid views. Although our Calabash Bar is temporarily closed, snacks are available at our PoolBar. Regarding the issue of sun loungers and the availability of tea, milk and sugar in the rooms, we assure you that these will be reviewed carefully. However, we would like to clarify that in our rooms we provide coffee and tea capsules, both to be used in the coffee machine, instead of traditional tea bags. We also appreciate your feedback on the drinks service, and we are committed to making it more efficient in order to better meet our guests' expectations. We are extremely pleased to hear that, despite the minor adjustments suggested, you would consider returning to our hotel. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again and ensure that your next stay is even more enjoyable. Best regards André Pereira Hotel Manager

Very mixed opinion on this hotel complex which could be much better but "is there a manager in the hotel"?

Good points :
The place is very quiet, the park is very well maintained. A car is essential but the location is perfect for traveling around the region. The villa is very well equipped, including a washing machine which is essential with a baby. The bedding is very good. The breakfast is complete and varied and there is real orange juice, a guarantee of quality for us. The pool bar staff is very friendly from breakfast until the evening (apart from one person who is far from friendly and smiling).

Negative points :
Concerning the villa, cleaning is done in front. On the dining room table, between the boards, we find all kinds of moldy waste etc. Cleaning was not done every day during our stay, i.e. 10 times out of 14 days, it's a bit average and it's not the fault of putting the sign up between 3 hours and 5 hours per day during our almost daily absences from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The floor was dirty, the bottoms of our feet were black from walking barefoot. The upper terrace could be pleasant but the rattan armchairs are so damaged that you hurt yourself on them. The garden gate is replaced by a fixed crossbar which must therefore be climbed over. On the terrace, we should add a drying rack for laundry because when you make a machine, the 2 threads are not enough. The smells that come up in the bathrooms are very pronounced and unpleasant.

Concerning the common areas, we would do without the blower around the swimming pool which stinks of gasoline during breakfast, the same for the karcher.
The lawn and pool area are not cleaned enough. There are leftovers of food there, the small tables are very dirty, a handkerchief was left on the lawn during our entire stay.

Concerning invisible management, it would be good to make customers understand that they should not reserve the deckchairs before going to breakfast, especially if it means leaving them empty for a good part of the day. Likewise, some customers impose their crappy music around the swimming pool with a speaker and the sound at full volume and again no management to say anything, all the other customers suffer.
A final example which shows the lack of supervision, a breakfast without the hot drinks machine and it is total panic, disorganization and chaos. We are told to wait 5 minutes for coffee at the bar, we are still waiting for them. While a table that arrived later and who complained was served before everyone else.

Our opinion is therefore very mixed on this complex which has potential but where there are many things to improve.
