What a fantastic start to our tour of Sri Lanka, from the warm welcome on arrival and excellent service throughout we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Being out of town and very close to a large lake the hotel had a very tranquil feel, which was backed up with friendly, discrete but attentive staff. The introduction to curry for breakfast and all the spices of Sri Lanka was a credit to the chef, we loved all the flavours of every meal we had. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the island.

After a long flight we finally got to the Notary's House and could finally settle for a day or so after a long time travelling. We were greeted with Sri Lankan tea and jaggery treats and could take in the beautiful surround of the hotel. Set near a lake (possible a river?) the hotel is beautifully quiet and a real haven. This is definitely a place to either start or end your stay in Sri Lanka for a night or so as it is in a very quiet area - so a perfect way to bookend your trip. The food was unbelievably good with traditional Sri Lankan cuisine every night that will take your breath away - always a different beautifully spiced curry with all the other dishes so beautiful together. As it was just the two of us for one night (we stayed another night and a few other couples appeared) we had the staff just looking after us and they were so kind, happy to see us and take as good care of us as they could. Our room was enormous with a huge bathroom. One thing with most places, including here, we have stayed in Sri Lanka is there is generally no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms of most small hotels - so you just have to ask for it from the staff and they will happily bring you anything you need in the morning if you need a cup of tea or coffee. We loved our stay and would absoluely return again, either at the start or beginning of our trip. Many thanks to everyone at The Notary House for looking us after us - we would love to come back Kristina & Shanta

Staying at the Notary’s House was the perfect start to our tour of Sri Lanka. From the idyllic setting to the truly wonderful staff and incredible food, it embodies Sri Lankan hospitality at its finest. After being greeted with a cold glass of fresh fruit juice, we were invited to take a guided tuk tuk ride through the local village to see acres of coconut plantations and the beautiful lake. We had a time for a quick dip in the infinity pool before getting ready for dinner where we were presented with a delicious array of Sri Lankan food. The traditional breakfast the following morning was also absolutely fantastic. The room was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated, making this a really special hotel. We could not recommend this hotel enough for anyone staying in this area.

This is located in wonderful gardens and the staff will happily show you round the area where they grow much of the food you eat. With luck, the gardener will also prepare you your very own king coconut. Nothing goes to waste here and the staff are very knowledgeable about the local environment. The food is amazing and the rooms are a real wow factor. The staff were all excellent and had a really great time. If you fancy a walk, turn left out of the main gate and after about 4oo yards you'll come to a small number of shops. The cafe on the opposite side of the road has a small selection of cakes that may not look much but taste amazing. Great time.

Peaceful and relaxing oasis after a long haul flight. Friendly professional team. Very nice introduction to Sri Lankan cuisine and the local beer from a pre chilled glass certainly hit the spot. Good wifi access. A huge thank you to Malla who went above and beyond kindly chasing the return of our luggage that missed the connecting flight due to a late arrival in Doha.

We can’t rate this charming boutique hotel highly enough. It is the perfect place to relax at the start or end of a Sri Lankan holiday just 45 minutes from the airport. We stayed for 3 nights and loved every minute! The large landscaped gardens and delightful pool overlook a lake which is great for bird spotting. The food was absolutely delicious with a vast array of Sri Lankan curries on offer each evening and breakfast too. There were other ‘western’ food options available but we just loved the curries. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean with a private terrace overlooking the gardens. Best of all - the wonderful staff. The service was great and nothing was too much trouble to organise. We were made to feel extremely welcome and highly recommend this little gem of a place.
