Banjara Camp & Retreat is for soft adventure family holiday in the higher Himalayas. Located on the banks of Baspa river and next to the amazingly beautiful Batseri village in Himachal, we were the pioneers of tourism in the remote areas of Kinnaur, Spiti and Upper Kullu region - all in Himachal. In Sangla Camp, stay options include luxury camps, river facing log huts and stone and wood retreat rooms with sit-outs. The food is a major highlight - with ample variety and always fresh. Activities include river crossing with ropes, jungle walks along Baspa River, high altitude drive in 4x4 jeeps, al fresco lunches, Bon-fires and bar-be-que’s (trout is our speciality here). Along with Sangla, most guests travel with us to four other small off-beat properties. Together, they make a necklace. These are Thanedar (near Narkanda), Sojha in Kulu Valley, Sonnaugi Homestead near Manali and Langza homestay at 14,500 feet in Spiti - one of the highest stay options in India. Come - travel with us.

Suffice it to say from my side that if the georgeous Sangla valley is heaven on earth, then the Banjara Camps property in Sangla valley is hands down and by far the best property in that heaven! But a larger review is definitely in order for such an unforgettable place.... :) The flagship property of the Banjara Camps chain of Himalayan getaways, this place is located near the ancient Himalayan village of Batseri which is few kilometres ahead of Sangla. From my very humble experience of having traversed across multiple places im the mountains, I have to say to all you readers out there that the spot at which this property stands has it all and ticks all boxes. Set next to the bluish-green clear waters of gushing Baspa river in the heart of remote Sangla valley, with apple orchards on one side and thick alpine forests on the other, with a quaint Himalayan village on the horizon and with snow clad peaks standing like sentinels all around, this location is a mouth-watering coming together of all good things Himalayan!! Hell of a location.. except it feels like heaven! :):) But the location is not the only thing that Banjara Camps have got right with this property. Despite being such a remote place, the property offers sturdy luxury and a quiet comfort. As a family of three including an energetic eight year old, we felt totally at home at the place despite the freezing conditions and snowfall outside. And it was not only the comfortable confines of the property that helped us feel at home, but also the ever helpful team led by the very able property manager Om Prakash ji. Every need of ours was promptly and duly attended to including our constant need for piping hot, yummy, finger licking food :) Each of the six snowy and surreal days we spent here was truly a one of its kind experience. The drive to Chitkul-Nagasthi with stunning views, the ambling walks amidst apple orchards, the quiet time spent meditating on the banks of Baspa, the wonderous moments spent looking at snowfall and later the joyful moments spent playing with the fallen snow, all these experiences enjoyed with our stay and base as Banjara Camps Sangla - will remain with us and definitely bring us back again!

Thanks Tarun for such an exhaustive review of your stay with us during winter time. And it is so much more satisfying to know that even a youngster was very comfortable. And you mentioned our great , staff. I guess it will be well nigh impossible to run a good place without motivated staff and we (management) will always be obliged to them. And lastly, thanks for appreciating the food. It does take lot of effort on the part of the kitchen staff to churn out yummy food, especially when a family is staying for six days. Thanks again. Cheers.

1. 2 hours before Chitkul 2. Rooms are really Nice 3. The corner room on the First floor has a big terrace and with banker bed which children will enjoy too much 4. If you go in September End - October 1st you will see huge apple inside the resort 5. Lots of child activity and open space 6. Room service and restaurant facility is not good during this period and Resort will be almost Vacant 7. Food is average as per their package cost 8. You can enjoy as much apple you want 9. Th replace is secured 10. You can take a small walk to nearby village where there is a nice temple 11. You have to walk 15miutes to the resort from the road 12. Driver accommodation is very basic 13. Staffs are really good 14. Room is very modern and has all the necessary things without TV 15. don't choose ground floor rooms during offseason 16. Thank you for the review. I am sure few of our future guests will read your review to confirm their visit to us. In the regard, I would like to correct couple of facts - Chitkul is 20 kms from our camp and takes one hour of driving time. The walk from the parking takes less than 5 minutes. Though highly appreciate of you recommending our rooms in the first floor, I would like to know as to why ground floor rooms in the off season are not recommended by you? As a policy for last 26 years, we don’t have tv in the resort nor do we encourage room service. Thanks again for the review. I hope to meet you next time you visit us. Regards

It so happens many times that we wonder how people find such a unique places ..... Trust me you need to be a BANJRA { Gypsy } .... For me nothing could have been better than winter to visit this place ..... We had reached late night , all roads covered with snow ...the management was tracking us with our location share services on what’s app . They had 2 people waiting for us at the car park area ..... who guided us to the Retreat .... it was quiet a walk ..... but comfortable with the lads from the retreat .... we we’re walking in snow 4 inches assume it must .... Once we reached the hotel .... it was a paradise .... super good rooms with all facility ready for us the , Hot water bags were kept in bed at night to make us feel more relaxed , Bonfire was ready in Living Room .... Food was prepared specially for us after we reached ..... and all this was done for only for 4 of us ..... we were the only 4 that night staying is such a big property .....Hospitality if has to be learnt then I think it should begin with this place .

While all Banjara Camps and Retreat properties where I stayed (Thanedar, Sojha, Sanougi and Langza) were great, this one was my favourite. Set amidst apple orchards and on the banks of Baspa stream, it is indeed a retreat. SA great place to leave the cobwebs of city life behind and enjoy the cleanest air of the country. There are so many activities to do here - go on day hikes in the surrounding snow-clad peaks or take a trip to Chitkul, the last village before Indo-Tibetan border. While I am not a big foodie, the food served here made me one. Simple, home-cooked food. the rooms very spacious and decorated in Indo-Tibetan style, reflecting the culture of the region. The Manager, Omprakash was really very caring and made sure we got everything we needed. I highly recommend this place.

The gush of the Baspa providing the aural backdrop with the chirping and beguiling calls of the myriad birds found here break the monotony of the river with welcoming frequency... the towering snowclad and deodhar and pine laden peaks on Banjara's North-south coordinates and the sweet smell of apples blossoms wafting through the crisp air, one needs to breathe deeply here... The sound, smells and sights are experience of pure bliss. With such a backdrop of the sublime and sometimes visceral, being in Sangla is heavenly encounter of a different kind. What adds and further hightens the interface with mother nature here is the Banjara retreat itself. The comfort, food and more importantly the experience of interacting with the staff who man Banjara so efficiently and flawlessly tells us what hospitality is and should be all about. The warmth and charm of Capt Ajay Sud, one of the founders of Banjara camps who resides in the premises itself and also the spontaneity and cheer of Om Prakash the manager further enliven one's stay in Banjara. Wonder if anywhere in Himachal one would come across a resort or hotel so well run like the way Banjara does in Sangla, Thanedar or Shoja. Their detailing of hospitality in terms of room decor, service, food, the activities and importantly for me genuine interest they take in their customers not as a polished routine leaves one totally smitten and floored. Swell place!
