The photos and descriptions on both their website and on Tripadvisor give a true reflection of what is on offer. We stayed in Casa Bromelia and it was everything we hoped for. Tina, the new owner, was friendly, welcoming and charming. She was available (we only had to call on the mobile phone provided) at all times but was never intrusive and the grounds were large enough and the buildings spread out enough that we felt as though we were the only people there. The atmosphere is of total seclusion and relaxation. Although having your own transport probably isn't strictly necessary, we would recommend a 4x4. For those who want a little more action there was a folder with plenty of information on local activities. There were basic cooking facilities (gas hob, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, crockery and cutlery e.t.c. although no oven). A good supermarket is nearby and there are plenty of restaurants in Cocles and nearby Puerto Viejo, from the cheap and cheerful to the higher end gourmet options. We didn't want to drive in the dark but had no trouble phoning for taxis to take us to restaurants to eat in the evenings. I'm rather pathetic when it comes to bugs and so on but we saw very few. A note of caution: because there is no glazing in the windows, you really must close the bedroom shutters before dusk in order to keep out the mosquito population. We were on a 23 day holiday and stayed at 6 different locations in a variety of accommodations and this was without doubt, our favourite. We also thought the rates very reasonable compared to some of the other places we stayed in. If we return Costa Rica this will be the first place we book.

Just had another memorable stay at Geckos! Six of us traveled down and made ourselves at home in the two houses. Being my third visit with Tom and Zoe, I can only say that I appreciate their hospitality and beautiful homes more each time I am there. Friends and family who joined were taken aback by the comfort and beauty of our accommodations. Very grateful for Geckos, Puerto Viejo and the abundance the region has to offer. Magic abounds..,this is the stuff dreams are made of!

We stayed in Casa Bromelia at Geckoes Lodge for a quick weekend trip to Puerto Viejo. We throughly enjoyed our two bedroom two bathroom house with plunge pool. The living areas including the kitchen are open air. The kitchen is fully supplied and very clean. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very nice and clean too. The house is in a rain forest setting with spectacular foliage. Very private. Be prepared to hear all the wildlife including howler monkeys in the morning. Might hear an occasional barking dog though. We loved the hammocks. We have stayed in several houses in Costa Rica and this ranks among the best.

To say that this was the best vacation of our lives would be an understatement. Geckoes Lodge is like living in a beautiful tree house in the jungle. It was a week filled with relaxing, surfing, wonderful food, and delightful people. On the grounds at Geckoes we saw tucans, sloths, butterflies, hummingbirds, incredible plants and the sounds of monkeys. It was unlike any experience we've ever had. Tom and Zoe are wonderful hosts and we are ready to book our next stay. This time we might not leave!

The feeling of rainforest immersion here is hard to describe (hopefully photos help)--but the view from any angle from anywhere in the house is a mural of green--lush, thick rainforest. The grounds are just beautiful, and the homes do an excellent job of bringing the outside in. And, the houses are very, very open. We stayed at Casa Bromelia (the two bedroom house) and we had everything from tree frogs to hummingbirds in our living room (the hummingbird flew in from the kitchen window and out through the living room balcony). Word of warning--one night there was a bullet ant on the kitchen counter--make sure to kill them with a hard, heavy object as their armor is pretty strong. The common area of the 2BR house really serves as both a living room and a porch. The house we stayed in was quite beautiful, with a very lovely bathroom complete with rainfall showerhead. Rustic luxury is a pretty good way to describe the place. We didn't have any problems with insects during our stay--the mosquito net on the bed seemed to take care of that. We kep the doors and windows kept shut after 5:00 PM, though. We can understand why there aren't screens on the windows, but there is a trade off there. Tom and Zoe are great hosts who do everything they can to look after guests--they live on-site and if there are any problems they address it immediately. The on-site service, and daily house keeping and cleaning, manage to make this feel just enough hotel-like to not feel like a vacation rental (though it certainly has a lot of those benefits as well). Despite the feeling of being in the middle of the rainforest, the location is not too inconvenient, though you'll definitely want a car here. Also, if your car doesn't have 4WD, probably best to use the parking spot near the gate rather than going down the gravel driveway--it was a bit of a challenge to get our vehicle back up (manual transmission didn't help). As far as whether to get the 1BR or 2BR house, we found the views from the 2BR to be absolutely stunning--we had a "porch list" of birds that was pretty darn impressive. The 1 BR house seems to be more intimate and secluded and even more open to the outdoors. People interested in birds and wildlife should definitely consider this place. We were able to see not only a bunch of unusual and rare birds, but also a sloth right from the living room of our house. There's also a small trail that goes near a river that has some deep forest bird species hanging around. We heard howler monkeys just about every day, and the place is Toucan Central--up to 10 Keel-billed Toucans at one time.
