#6 of 10 Specialty lodging in Kinigi
The PeakSpot rests on six acres of pristinely manicured grounds on the edge of the Virunga Forest. The property is lush with local flora, attracting a wide array of local birds and other animals. On the property sit five stone bungalows built in the local style with locally sourced materials (two single bungalows, two double bungalows, and one family cottage). Each bungalow has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, hot and cold running water for showers, fresh linens and towels, and electrical outlets. The interiors feature brightly colored furnishings, textiles, and handicrafts in the local style, all of which are sourced locally and fairly from our village neighbors. Tent camping is available in the gardens with the option to either rent a tent or bring your own. Guests with tent accommodation have access to flush toilets and showers. All PeakSpot accommodations include a warm and nutritious breakfast, rich with local fruits and produce.

We all loved it! The staff is friendly, polite and attentive without being intrusive. Wonderful fireplaces in the Family Cabin, dining room and lounge areas. There are great beverage options, delicious 3 course meals served in cabin or in the dining room. There are beautiful, well-kept grounds and gardens. Fantastic local dancers you are invited (but not required) to join. Excellent view of the volcanoes. Even hot water bottles delivered to your cabin for your feet to stay warm all night long! Alexis and staff spoiled us completely and we loved it all.

Come here to camp or stay in an eco lodge- you will be surrounded by the surrounding volcanoes, and the beautiful farms. The place is well cared for and feels like a small sanctuary or yoga retreat. The Peakspot is in a very convenient location (close to the trailheads for the golden monkey trek and some of the gorilla treks) but in a quiet, peaceful location. Hospitality here rivals or even exceeds lodges that cost 10 times more, and constant improvements are being made. The owner, Mr. Amon, is a Rwandan who is also a fantastic experienced guide who knows all the ins and outs of the gorilla trekking and other activities. Ask about village walks, cooking lessons, and other cultural activities too!

Couldn't forget this place in a hurry, as the staff here over compensate for all the missing things we usually have, and being westerners take for granted. We drove our rav4 on the terrible roads form Kingi to the lodge, but remember to lookout for the Peakspot signage which is the best navigational route. We did try to follow a quicker way via google maps, but this led to a road that was impassable due to bad weather leaving it's mark. So happy we arrived here just before dark, as the you don't want to be driving here in this area in pitch black and hazards everywhere. The Peakspot really is in the middle of nowhere, but this can be greatly appreciated with its difficulty getting here. We are greeted by staff, who end up being absolute legends during our 2 night stay. As our luggage is brought out into the reception area, all of a sudden we get a power cut through the whole establishment. We are told that this is a regular occurrence with not so good weather and total isolation being the main contributors. With torches we are taken to our room that's freezing cold and looks worse for wear. My wife not being entirely comfortable, start getting doubts about even wanting to stay here, due to lack of standards and facilities. Im kind of getting similar feelings too. The outlook then starts to change for the better with the lights coming back on and are able to see what we're doing. Plus with our disregard for the initial room, we are moved into a bigger 2 bed 2 bathroom cottage that is completely rustic but much more cosy with a log fire ready and waiting. Now our comfort levels have vastly increased with Alex, Justin and the team making us feel a million dollars and are there for all our needs at any time. The staff even provided us with a wifi dongle for the room at no extra charge, nor was there an extra charge for a room upgrade. But this helped us being the only visitors at the lodge when we arrived. A dongle in the rainforest, imagine that?! Just stepping out of the room, you witness amazing views of the forest and it's landscape. The staff provided a continuous supply of fire wood for the for early mornings and evenings when coldness is at it's prime, even chopping the wood form trees whilst raining. Can't help but commend the staff for their unbelievable customer care, and they made our stay a true memory. If hospitality can be like this in less fortunate regions of the world then long live integrity. At bedtime we're also given hot water bottles to snug up to. Food here is also good, takes a bit of time but very tasty. Bottled water needs to be paid for. Anything else you need then just ask. Alex came with us in the car to navigate us how to get to the HQ so we could activate all the permits on selected days. He also helped us with the admin side and made life very easy for us due to the HQ being a little unorganised. When we completed our VNP activities, we arrived back at the lodge filthy as ever. But they cleaned our wellies, socks, and the car (in and out), without us even asking or without them even charging us. Just pure kindness that was thanked endlessly by us, that included a 60 usd tip on checkout. Its important to remember when arriving here, not to expect too much due to its isolated location, but we'll guarantee the staff here will fulfil their side of professionalism and beyond. So happy we stayed here, and send many thanks to the Peakspot team for creating souvenirs etched in our minds..

My Touroperator Gecko Safaris booked this lodge for me for two Nights. The staff at Peakspot made me feel incredibly safe, welcome and comfortable. It was cold sometimes Rain (except when i am trekking) even though it was the rainy season. I always had blankets, hot warm Bottles (3 altogether) and Fire in the Dining Area. The Cottage looked cosy from outside. But Inside ... The rooms have to be renovated. Also, my room was dark and musty. The curtains on the windows could hardly be pushed aside. There was no lamp at The bedside. The shelf for towels was broken and unstable  The bathrooms are very small with a shower and toilet in one small area, which means when you run the shower, the toilet gets absolutely soaking wet. Alex was so Kind and cleaned it when i was asking. the shower donated hot water but the jet was very small. The Service was incredible. Alex repaired my shoes after trekking Golden Monkeys. That was a Unique encounter. The Food was always Good. All in all, I would book the lodge again because of the wonderful location, the staff and service. but the comments on the rooms should be taken to heart.
