We visited Sifnos for a wedding and chose to stay in Platis Gialos. The property is located some meters away from the central road and all the car and motorcycle noises. The garden and common areas are very well kept and the two storey house with two bathrooms we were staying in was comfortable. Big thanks to the personel who took good care of all of us and the amazing variety of breakfast goodies we received every day.
When we came here we were greeted with cold glasses of lemonade, the front desk staff were really nice. In addition, when the road was blocked for a race they helped haul our luggage to the taxi. Additionally, (and this isn’t a knock on the Edem Hotel) as for Sifnos as a whole do not come here if you have a soft spot for cats. There are many strays and it tore at our hearts that it looked like food and water wasn’t left out for them so instead they had to beg at the breakfast table. Most of them looked pretty healthy but it’s still sad to see and it distracted from our honeymoon bliss.
Fantastic stay . Very nice and warm welcome. Rooms and service high class. Advice from the owner very good. Breakfast quality never seen before. Villas are very convenient for two couples (2 bathrooms and all faciiities); Beach and a lot of good restaurants at walking distance. Very quiet for a good sleep.
Platis Gialos is simply a tourist destination - I don’t believe anybody lives here all year round. Most of the people who work in the various establishments come from somewhere else (Athens a lot of them). It does, however, have the best beach on the island and that’s why we chose the area. We chose Edem Hotel because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed at all. We had a superior maisonette with a very large patio off the upstairs bedroom. Excellent for an afternoon cocktail and relaxation. The beach is about 100 metres away, and so are the various restaurants and bars. Try “To Steki” for an excellent Greek feast. If you want to explore further inland, take the bus to Asteronas (€1.80 each way) and walk around the village and then through the back alleys to Apollonia. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and yes the breakfast is superb. …
The staff is absolutely adorable. Nothing is never too complicated. We really felt welcomed . Good value for money . The hotel is located very near the beach. Platis Gialos is, to me, not the best part of the island. I would have preferred to stay in an authentic small greek village . However we were happy to stay at Edem Hotel. The garden and the common areas are really well maintained and allowed us to relax while reading books or drinking wine. Thank you !
