In October 2022 we made a booking for Beyond Resort Kata, to stay in February/March 2023. Up to that point the reviews we had seen for this hotel were generally favourable. However, from that point a number of extremely negative reviews started to appear. We were slightly concerned about this, but kept an open mind and decided to make our own mind up when we experienced the hotel for ourselves. I am pleased to say that we were pleasantly surprised how good the hotel was overall, and concluded that many of the reviews were overly harsh. This review would have been entirely positive if it weren’t for one thing. That one thing is the clumsy and ineffective way the hotel have tried to address the sunbed situation. When we arrived in February there was a problem with certain groups of guests hogging the sunbeds very early in the morning, then hardly using them at all during the day. However, later in our stay this problem became much less of an issue, to the extent that by our penultimate day there were some free sunbeds available all day. However, at that point the hotel management decided to act tough on the sunbed situation. They gave everyone a letter setting out the new policy, which not unreasonably stated that any sunbeds left unattended for two hours would have the towels etc removed. What happened next day? When innocent guests were depositing towels around 8am prior to going into breakfast for 30 minutes, staff advised them they couldn’t do so as this was against the new policy! To make matters worse, later that morning staff completely ignored sunbeds that were reserved but had been unoccupied for over 2 hours! By midday on our last day all the sunbeds were reserved but many were unoccupied, so the result of the new policy had been to make things worse not better! I have given verbal feedback to the hotel on how they should be targeting the real offenders (often the same group of people who systematically steal food from the breakfast buffet), rather than taking the easy option and alienating innocent guests who are trying to fairly follow the hotel’s own written policy. Drawing a line under the above, our overall experience at the hotel was excellent. Many reviewers have commented that the hotel is old and tired, but to be fair to the hotel they admit this and are planning to close for refurbishment from April. Although some redecoration is needed, the rooms are large and comfortable, everything works well, the lifts are reliable and fast, the plumbing is efficient, the WiFi is speedy and reliable, everything is spotlessly clean, the breakfast is excellent and the lunchtime food and drink very good quality albeit expensive by comparison with other Thailand (not European) prices. The location of this hotel is superb, right next to a world class beach and with many excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. The best feature of the hotel though is the staff, invariably polite, friendly and helpful. The member of staff who we will always remember is the evening security guard, who always greeted us with a salute, a handshake and a friendly chat, a real star! …
Best beach access on kata beach I give it 4 stars for the location the hotel is large and a little older in style the room was comfortable ocean view the bathroom was okay should be redone not comfortable but clean food at breakfast is okay I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 pool area has a lot of lounges but there is a struggle with the reserving of lounges up front facing the beach apparently people get up at 6:00 am or earlier and take the lounges but there is plenty of others available The stay was good but the hotel could use an updating in a lot of areas however we came for the beach and it did not disappoint
The hotel is well positioned for Kata Beach, which must have once been stunning. It still has white sand and clear blue sea, which is good for swimming, but sadly the crowds and closely packed sun beds all along the beach detract from the experience. The hotel was very busy during our visit. We arrived in our first-floor room at about 10.30pm, after being mistakenly taken to a dungeon-like room on the floor below. By this time, there was no food available in the hotel - room service ended at 8.30pm and the restaurant was closed. The hotel room was fine, if tired and with an unpleasant musty smell. We enjoyed the view of the municipality offices and the traffic from our balcony. However, we failed to get a sun bed in the hotel grounds until about 4.00pm on each of the days we spent there; they were all reserved with towels by 8.00 am. Breakfast was fine, but although there were signs saying 'do not feed the birds' these were ignored and mynah birds were a problem. We didn't use the pool but it looked a bit dismal. This hotel charges four-star hotel prices but does not deliver a four-star experience.…
In need of updating it seems like a 1980’s hotel . Dull hallways still using a key to open doors. On arriving was welcomed with a cold drink taken to our rooms through a very dreary hallways upstairs (no lifts) everything you need in room clean but old looking. We had a coffee when we arrived only enough for one day I asked reception for some more and told you get it replenished next day . Safe didn’t work came and replaced batteries next evening we couldn’t open it was told we would have to wait till morning. Next day given a new safe . Pool towels must have been used for the last 20 years, old and thin I wouldn’t have used them to clean dog . Nowhere to change them so took some off a maids trolley . Never had any trouble getting sun beds . Garden areas could have done with some work weeds in raised beds no plants. Perhaps the man who walked around pool a few times a day could have done some weeding instead of hiding in hallway picking his nose . Breakfast ok nothing special . Overall this hotel is not a four star maybe a 3 at most it wasn’t worth the money we paid they seem to think the view makes it a 4 star. Looked at other reviews and replies hotel seems to always say for last 10 years will endeavour to improve but they have done nothing . It’s no wonder the staff don’t seem to be very welcoming because the hotel isn’t .…
Our first return visit since Covid and it was glorious to be back at Beyond Kata Resort! Amnat and his team are amazing. Service oriented, friendly - there’s nothing they won’t try to do to make your stay a wonderful experience. Amnat is so personable with guests and it creates a culture of gracious hospitality that we have come to know and love. And of course being right on beautiful Kata Beach is unbeatable. We can’t recommend it more highly!! Five stars all the way!
We had the most wonderful stay at Beyond Resort Kata! The staff were friendly and helpful everywhere we went - I read some other reviews about unfriendly staff but that was not our experience at all. We made a mistake when booking and asked for an adjoining room for our three children, when we actually meant a connecting room. It was our error, but the staff went above and beyond to move things around to make sure we had a connecting room with our children. The rooms were quite spacious and very comfortable. Quite comfortable beds and everything you need. I found the included beach bag and beach towels in the room (as opposed to having to collect them at a towel stand everyday) quite helpful. We found the resort clean and comfortable. There are some bits that are in need of an update, but it was nothing major and certainly didn't impact our stay in any way. Breakfast each morning was tasty and plentiful. Yes, there was sometimes a wait at the egg station, but personally, I'd rather wait a couple of minutes and have fresh eggs rather than have them all prepared and just sitting around. Possibly the only complaint was that the tea was quite weak, but we just bought a box of tea bags at the mini mart and brought one down with us each morning to make our own tea, no big deal. The hotel seems to be trying to tackle the issue with the sunbeds as we didn't have a problem getting beach chairs when we wanted them. We only had two days where we stayed at the resort and actually wanted sunbeds, but both of those days, we brought our towels down about 8:30 and were able to get three chairs together, no problems. Really though, this comes down to people being considerate of others, which unfortunately, not everyone is. The activities desk was quite good. We had booked one of our tours ages ago, but decided to add on a second tour whilst there. The staff at the desk recommended a company and booked it all for us. We would never have come across that tour company on our own, and they were fab, so really pleased with how that all worked out. The location of the resort is fantastic! We loved that it was right on the beach, but also in the centre of Kata, so you could walk everywhere. When in the resort, you couldn't hear any of the noise from the road, but it was so easy to pop out and get food and just go and explore. We rented a car for the duration of our stay and never had an issue parking in the hotel car park (definitely recommend a car rental as a great and economical way of exploring the island!) On our last day, we had an evening flight and asked for one of our two rooms to have late checkout so we could spend the morning at the hotel. The staff were more than happy to accommodate that request and it made our last day much more enjoyable as we could enjoy one last swim in the pool and on the beach, and still get cleaned up before sadly leaving Phuket. We really loved our stay at Beyond Resort Kata. We don't normally return to the same place twice as we like exploring different areas, but we enjoyed our stay there so much, we are already planning our next trip back and will be choosing Beyond Resort Kata again. …
Beyond Kata is located on the best stretch of beach on Kata. This was a draw for me but it stops there. We booked two rooms for a week and were so excited to be at Kata beach. When we got there we could not log into the WiFi and called the the front desk twice. The woman said that we are so much trouble. I have never had any hotel worker be so rude. The floor was sticky so I took sanitizing wipes and wipes both floors. The wipes were black and so dirty. Then we were told that we could not flush toilet paper down the toilet and should throw paper into the trash. I find this utterly disgusting because the bathroom will smell. So my kids toilet clogged because they forgot and flushed toilet paper. I called the hotel staff and they came to plunge the toilet. suddenly a large cockroach landed on my arm and ran across the room. I was screaming and so he took the dirty plunger with toilet water and smashed the cockroach, dragged it across the room. We had toilet water All over the floor, over the bathroom and toilet seat. It was outright foul I was mortified. Then he leaves and I said why aren't you cleaning the toilet water all over the seat and floors. So he took a dirty brown towel and wiped the toilet seat and floor. We suffered for the night and negotiated to cut our trip short and check out the next day. We had breakfast and it was terrible. They give you basics and no soup. Such a dreadful place I will never stay there again.…
An adequate, but tired hotel in need of major refurbishment. It was a mistake booking this hotel. PROS: Excellent location next to the beach Rooms are good size Front desk and Concierge staff very friendly and helpful. CONS: Hotel generally looks tired and needs refurbishment in rooms and across the hotel (see photos) Pool tiles missing and poorly repaired in some areas (see photos) Some staff in Atrium Cafe not at all friendly, in fact very moody, not helpful and rude. Only 1 person at egg station so expect at least a 10 to 15 minute wait most mornings. I gave up! Coffee machines are very slow and constantly breaking down. Long queues each morning for coffee No turndown service, especially to replace wet and used towels. Beach towels only replaced between 17:00 & 18:00 each day at poolside. Towels get quite we in afternoon and cannot be replaced until 17:00. Quite a number of sun beds broken. Seems acceptable to leave them broken and in use. A few have been repaired with different colour rope which looks terrible. Swimming pool rules state towels to reserve sun beds not allowed and will be removed. However, no staff removed any towels even when not used for many hours, even all day as many people reserve sun beds around the pool in a morning, go to the beach all day and expect sun beds still vacant late afternoon around pool.…
The breakfast buffet is worst than a Holiday Inn Express. The quality and availability of food is poor. They need to get coffee machines that don't take 1 minute to dispense one cup of coffee. Frustrating experience getting food and coffee. It's high season post COVID so this place is overrun with tourists. I was really shocked that it's mainly Russians. I figured with the whole Ukraine thing they'd be staying home. Don't expect to get a chair by the pool or anywhere on the property. People get up at 6am, claim their chair with a towel. Most of the time the claimed chairs are empty for most of the day. The hotel needs to pick up towels and release the chairs when they're unused for 1 or 2 hours. The staff doesn't have that welcoming attitude I've come to expect staying other places in Thailand. Maybe because the hotel patrons are tough on them IDK. I'll never come back to Thailand during high season. Not likely to ever return to this hotel. Very different place than last July when Kata had very few tourists and was a pleasure to be on the beach.…
