Hosted a writer's retreat at the Strawhouse this last weekend and what a magical time it was. Don, Julia, and the entire resort staff went far beyond expectation to make our entire event truly extraordinary and beautiful. From the cozy and beautiful cabins with stunning riverfront views, to the thoughtfully prepared and delectable meals, the attention to detail and exceptional warmth and personable interactions were truly world class. Can't gush enough; just GO, you'll see!
This weekend was a perfect getaway! The Strawhouse Resort was beautifully located off highway 299, easy to find, right on the Trinity River and didn’t disappoint. We were welcomed with a clean house, well put together, and a thoughtful, handwritten note. We walked the grounds, exploring the river, went on a hike (trailhead just behind the property), and enjoyed tea on the porch. They have amazing coffee where they beans are freshly roasted on-site! We ate breakfast every morning and we’re happy to find that we loved everything on the menu (bagel and egg sandwiches that easily trumps Starbucks, vegetable quiche I could have at anytime of day, and oatmeal my picky self actually enjoyed!). They were kind enough to smoke fish we caught in the river during our trip and were amazing at how tasty it was! The kitchen had the essentials needed to cook a few dinners we planned for during our stay. They even had coals and lighter for the bbq. The house has extra towels and blankets, board games (though we brought some as well), comfy beds and a hot shower. The view and proximity to the Trinity River with that porch was the absolute highlight, we could’ve easily been there most of the day. Needless to say, from the well-selected craft beer/wine/food menu, clean home, cozy atmosphere, warm /thoughtful hospitality, tasty cafe meals/baked goods, and beautiful location - we can’t wait to come back. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing, much needed weekend!…
Stayed over Thanksgiving weekend this year for our 2021 trip. The Strawhouse staff help make staying at the Strawhouse Resort a consistent and relaxing experience . The grounds are beautiful and the cottages are always clean and very comfortable with kitchens to prepare your own meals/snacks. And, the Cafe has food options (including vegetarian) and has a great espresso bar for coffee drinks. One of the highlights of staying here is the the wood fired artisan pizza! However we didn't get to indulge in the pizza this time around due to unavailability, but we were told that the new cafe manager will be working on firing up their wood fired pizza oven and be making those delicious pizza's again. It's almost worth it to come stay just for the wood fired pizza! But this truly is a great place and so many great things to do depending on the season from hiking, kayaking, fishing, drift boating with a guide, etc. and the scenery is great for the photographers looking of a beautiful place to stay immersed in nature. And YES the 299 Highway is OPEN heading West to the Strawhouse from Shasta County, and there are delays and closures on Hight 299 heading East to the Strawhouse, so be sure to check highway 299 (East of Strawhouse) traffic delays so your are prepared, and you will no doubt have a great stay when you get here.…
Me and my wife stayed here because my wife remembers meeting the owners, and enjoying there coffee. For our 1 year anniversary we decided to try there place out. It was a great experience! Staff was Awesome, Food was great.
We have visited this place couple of months ago. We stayed in the yurt. Everything was great except for shower water. We were getting only hot water, no cold water. Had difficulty taking bath. Other than that, staying part was really great and memorable. Very good hosts, nice privacy, very relaxing. But, we had a small bitter experience and whenever we think of this place, we are reminded of it too. On the day we checked out, my daughter forgot to pickup her necklace from the coffee table. We have called for it when we realized and were willing to drive back which would take almost an hour. But, they said that they could not find it. We were a bit shocked. It was in the middle of peak covid time. It had a glass top and is very easy to find it on the coffee table if it was at least wiped once and it is supposed to be cleaned and wiped for the next guest as per covid guidelines. We did not lose it and we know very specifically where it was placed and told them clearly where it can be found. Still to our disappointment, they said that they checked with cleaning person and they could not find any. We knew it was absolutely wrong. Either…
This place is a gem. This is my kind of "glamping"! Strawhouse Resorts is the only place in a 50 mile radius that my picky @$$ can stay at. The others are either really roughing it or looks like the hotel from The Shining. I had a pet with me so I could not book the river side cottages, yes I was sad...I mean how much damage can my 5 pound chihuahua make? Our cottage was on the opposite side of the river which is NOT far from their cafe and the river. Mr. One star reviewer, you can't walk 50 feet across the highway (twice)?! If that's your issue, you got problems. Ok...I'm off topic. You will not be disappointed (unless you want a TV which is not in the room). Will book again if we want to make another 10 hour road trip...that's how nice it was.
I've wanted to stay here for the longest time since stopping in at the cafe during rafting trip. I'm so glad we decided to pull the trigger and rent one of the cottages for a weekend! We were a little early in the year to be able to cheer on any kayakers or rafters on the water during the day, but we had a great time regardless. The accommodations were clean and well-equipped with plenty of cookware (bring your own salt/pepper/oil) and games/puzzles to keep us entertained when not taking in the scenery.
This is my 2nd stay at Strawhouse and it never disappoints. Very clean, organized. The FOOD is beyond amazing if you like to eat healthy and feel good after you've eaten. I would love a restaurant in my hometown to serve what Don prepares at his Cafe.
Strawhouse somehow gets better every visit. Don & Julia do an amazing job keeping everything fresh and are always adding something new to the accommodations, gift shop items and menu. From their slice of heaven on the Trinity River, they have created a unique oasis for anglers, travelers or those wishing to explore the area. I highly suggest spending some time here and enjoying all they have to offer.
I am so happy we found this place. The cottage is super cute and the view of the river is amazing. The hosts were super friendly, they wrote me a birthday message and even gave us a bottle of wine. If you want to disconnect from the busy life and just relax and enjoy nature, then you should consider this place. There’s no TV, no cell signal, there’s wifi but it’s not very strong. For me it was a blessing to spend my birthday at this hidden gem.
