Detailed Reviews
The river views, wildlife and fishing convenience cannot be beat .All of the cottages have large wrap around decks There were 3 adults that stayed in the cottage and if we were to add two children into the mix it would still be fine. The cottage is well equipped with a full bath and a kitchen with a stove top, microwave and full size refrigerator. There are charcoal grills located in front of each Cottage. There is no TV , or telephones in the cottages. However the wifi is more than adequate and you have a great assortment of board games and books to enjoy. Such a serene place to unplug and enjoy each other. We will be back!

Stayed over Thanksgiving weekend this year for our 2021 trip. The Strawhouse staff help make staying at the Strawhouse Resort a consistent and relaxing experience . The grounds are beautiful and the cottages are always clean and very comfortable with kitchens to prepare your own meals/snacks. And, the Cafe has food options (including vegetarian) and has a great espresso bar for coffee drinks. One of the highlights of staying here is the the wood fired artisan pizza! However we didn't get to indulge in the pizza this time around due to unavailability, but we were told that the new cafe manager will be working on firing up their wood fired pizza oven and be making those delicious pizza's again. It's almost worth it to come stay just for the wood fired pizza! But this truly is a great place and so many great things to do depending on the season from hiking, kayaking, fishing, drift boating with a guide, etc. and the scenery is great for the photographers looking of a beautiful place to stay immersed in nature.
And YES the 299 Highway is OPEN heading West to the Strawhouse from Shasta County, and there are delays and closures on Hight 299 heading East to the Strawhouse, so be sure to check highway 299 (East of Strawhouse) traffic delays so your are prepared, and you will no doubt have a great stay when you get here.

We're so happy you enjoyed your time here! What a special way to spend your Thanksgiving holiday. We are thrilled to announce that we are building back up our supply of wood for the wood-fired pizza oven (the Monument Fire gobbled up all our pizza wood), and we will be firing it up again soon! Also, more great news - the road work that has been causing road delays close to us will be completed by the end of this week - whoo hoo! It's always good to check the Cal Trans District 2 website and/or Facebook page for possible delays in our area, but note that the online road maps are not always correct. If you're unsure about the road conditions, you can always reach out to us for the latest updates. Thanks again for your wonderful review and suggestions. We hope we get to see you again sometime!

We came with wife and teen kids for an escape from quarantined life in the bay. Stayed at the yurt. We have always wanted to stay in one. A yurt is nice compromise for myself and the wife. She is not so big into camping, but the kids and I love it. It was glamping at its best. The yurt location is across the street and can get a little bit noisy with cars driving by. But, you get used to it. The yurt was spacious and clean. The charcoal grill and picnic table was just like camping. But, without the hassle and with all the creature comforts. The wifi didn't reach the yurt and the cafe was closed during our stay. But, I brought plenty of food and drinks. I understand that they will be upgrading broadband access and the cafe will be opening up more soon. Lounging by the river. Swimming, fishing and sleeping on a hammock that I hung up on the river's edge was just what we needed. We also did a half day whitewater rafting run with Bigfoot rafting that was nextdoor. Great get away for anyone looking for nature and adventure.

Thanks for staying with us and giving us your trust during this crazy time of Covid! The yurt is definitely glamping at it's best - we love it, too! We have since upgraded our WiFi that we were telling you about, which is nice for all who need to continue to work and go to school, and we have gotten the cafe' open as promised. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your precious family time here and got to go rafting, swimming and fishing. Hammock's are the perfect way to lounge down by the river, too - glad you brought one! We hope we get to see you again. :)

This weekend was a perfect getaway! The Strawhouse Resort was beautifully located off highway 299, easy to find, right on the Trinity River and didn’t disappoint.
We were welcomed with a clean house, well put together, and a thoughtful, handwritten note. We walked the grounds, exploring the river, went on a hike (trailhead just behind the property), and enjoyed tea on the porch. They have amazing coffee where they beans are freshly roasted on-site!
We ate breakfast every morning and we’re happy to find that we loved everything on the menu (bagel and egg sandwiches that easily trumps Starbucks, vegetable quiche I could have at anytime of day, and oatmeal my picky self actually enjoyed!).
They were kind enough to smoke fish we caught in the river during our trip and were amazing at how tasty it was!
The kitchen had the essentials needed to cook a few dinners we planned for during our stay. They even had coals and lighter for the bbq.
The house has extra towels and blankets, board games (though we brought some as well), comfy beds and a hot shower. The view and proximity to the Trinity River with that porch was the absolute highlight, we could’ve easily been there most of the day.
Needless to say, from the well-selected craft beer/wine/food menu, clean home, cozy atmosphere, warm /thoughtful hospitality, tasty cafe meals/baked goods, and beautiful location - we can’t wait to come back. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing, much needed weekend!

This place is absolutely AMAZING! Whether you are passing through and looking for a good meal or in search of a great getaway...you’ve found it! The Strawhouse cottages are extremely clean and well cared for. The beds are like sleeping on clouds and the sound of the river puts you to sleep. The full bath is roomy and includes everything you need. The cottages have the perfect size kitchen which you won’t want to use as their food is to die for! Our favorites included their wonderful lattes, fresh fruit smoothies and breakfast Sammy on bagels with eggs, cheese, bacon, avocado and their delicious homesauce for Breakfast but their wood fired pizzas stole the show when it came to lunch & dinner. Our favorite was the smoked tri-tip pizza with caramelized onions, mushrooms and a yummy chipotle sauce. And don’t forget the local beers & hard ciders on tap. The owners and entire staff are so friendly, helpful and inviting. Now for the best part...they are right on the river. You can pull up a lounge chair in their private garden area, alongside the river or submerge yourself in the river like we did. In addition, they have great rafting and kayaking rentals & guides right next door. So if you’re looking for a fun, relaxing and quality place for your next getaway, look no further...you’ve found it!

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review - we appreciate the 5 stars, too!!! You listed all of our favorite things to do and enjoy here - the river (love that sound, too), the food (we make our own organic bagels and pizza dough btw!), drinks (we've been roasting our own organic coffee now for almost 20 years, and we have awesome local beers, wines and ciders), and relaxing with loved ones. We hope you get to come back again soon!

Very remote but location has it all. Three spacious and cute cabins right on the Trinity River where you can swim and lounge during summer. One morning I looked out and a bald eagle came flying down past my window. If you want to stream any movies while you there at night for kids, bring your own WiFi hub (and computer) as WiFi is not too strong for streaming. Other than that, we will be back I hope every year!0

I've wanted to stay here for the longest time since stopping in at the cafe during rafting trip. I'm so glad we decided to pull the trigger and rent one of the cottages for a weekend! We were a little early in the year to be able to cheer on any kayakers or rafters on the water during the day, but we had a great time regardless. The accommodations were clean and well-equipped with plenty of cookware (bring your own salt/pepper/oil) and games/puzzles to keep us entertained when not taking in the scenery.

Thank you for the 5-star shout-out, and we're so happy you enjoyed your time here! We usually have kayakers and rafters on the water from March (yes, even though it can be cold!) through September. It's so fun to watch them go by, and more fun to join them! We have great rafting companies here that would love to take you out any time of the year, and we highly recommend the experience. We hope you can stay with us again sometime!

The StrawHouse had everything we needed for a relaxing and beautiful getaway for our anniversary. The Tiny House Cottages are very well maintained and meticulously taken care of, the pizzas were some of the best we have ever eaten, and the private river spot reserved only for guests is top notch Trinity River real estate! We will most definitely be back for another celebration weekend, and look forward to Don and Julia’s impeccable hospitality again. This is a true gem not to be missed.

I am so happy we found this place. The cottage is super cute and the view of the river is amazing.
The hosts were super friendly, they wrote me a birthday message and even gave us a bottle of wine.
If you want to disconnect from the busy life and just relax and enjoy nature, then you should consider this place. There’s no TV, no cell signal, there’s wifi but it’s not very strong. For me it was a blessing to spend my birthday at this hidden gem.

A friend and I planned a Flyfishing girls weekend in Junction City and could not have been happier about our accommodations at Strawhouse! We were fortunate to get one of their adorable riverside cabins. We booked dinner with our rooms and were so pleased to arrive to a warm delicious dinner waiting for us in an immaculately clean cabin. The cabin itself was cozy, had all the things we needed, and great water pressure in the shower. Additionally, traveling in the colder months, we were grateful for the incredibly fast acting heat and warm beds. Coffee next door (their in-house roast to boot!) was a delight, as well as their wood-fired pizzas for our second night dinner. Highly recommend, can’t wait to book a trip back to experience Strawhouse in the summer season.
Thank you Strawhouse team!
