We have eaten here on a number of occasions and the food has always been good. There will be something for everyone on the menu. The all day breakfast will just do that - it will keep you going all day long. Every dish is a delight and will not disappoint you.

We visited The Axe & Compass on day 2 of a cycle trip. We needed a quiet venue and the terraced chalets at the back of the pub were quiet, just the noise of cars leaving the pub but all quiet by 11pm. Ideal self contained rooms with fridge for continental breakfast which adequate. The room was 'engineered for efficiency'... More

The Axe and Compass is a friendly traditional pub. It displays local art work for sale and has a good menu with special events catered for.The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. iWell worth a visit.

My sister and I had lunch at the axe recently. The ham and eggs is to die for!!! Such a huge portion it was tempting to ask for a doggie bag for the delicious ham they served. Just too much of it to see off in one go😉 Will certainly be going back ASAP.

The accommodation wing is situated away from the pub and the only noise you hear is patrons coming and going. Single rooms are on the top floor and a bit to the small, not so cosy side. Internet is nonexistent and TV signal intermittent apparently because of a nearby wind turbine. In-the-room breakfast limited to three small Kellogg cereals of... More

The room was clean and tidy with all of the simple things that one needs for a couple of nights stay. The bed was on wheels and moved around all night which was kinda annoying. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food in the pub was excellent.

Stayed here for 1 night as we were attending a family party. Hopefully our room is about to be renovated as it really shouldn't be stayed in until it is. There was mould on the walls in the bathroom. the bathroom fan was so noisy, the toilet and bath were stained, the ceilings were stained, there were cobwebs in an... More

I stayed here for four nights on a business trip and found the accommodation clean, warm and comfortable. The room was in the lodge at the rear of the bar/restaurant and had a newly fitted shower room which I was told was the start of a full refurbishment of the lodge. The guys who run the place couldn't have been... More
