Situated next to the Grand Union Canal, it's ideal for walking – Ivinghoe Beacon (where the Ridgeway ends/starts) is about 2 miles away. Plus there's also a walk along the canal itself, which is very pleasant with all the narrow boats. Although the adjacent B road seems to be busy the rooms face the canal and this means this didn't... After finishing our walk along the Ridgeway, we were delighted to be welcomed and shown to a beautiful, spacious room by the canal. The beds were extremely comfortable with spotless cotton sheets and our bathroom had a large spotless bath and shower, with generous high quality towels. . The whole ensuite was airy and calm. Nothing was too much trouble,... More

Lovely place to stay. Good location especially for Whipsnade Zoo. Struggled a little at bedtime with little ones so sat outside in the garden but s bit chilly! Friendly flexible staff and a great breakfast definitely recommend

We booked in here for a night while visiting friends in the vicinity and had a very comfortable stay. The room was very bright and spacious with a very well appointed en-suite with his and hers basins and walk-in shower. We had a lovely view of the canal too. The location was ideal and very pleasant and quiet. We will... More

If you are walking the grand union canal, this is a jolly convenient place to stop overnight. It has a lawn overlooking the canal and plenty of places to relax (just as well given the state of our muscles and feet after a very long walk with back packs on the hottest day of the year) Debbie, the manager could... just returned from a one night stay at the Brownlow with the family. Lovely location, nice room, however the stay was let down by the poor attitude of the staff! There was no welcome at the reception area on arrival and because we complained about the lack of towels ready for our use, we were given a very 'cold' reception... More

Its always disappointing for us to get a negative review. Last week we suffered a series of unfortunate mechanical events with washing machine, dryer and lawn mower all either malfunctioning or working below par. So it was very regrettable that towels were not ready for that early check-in and the garden had not been freshly mowed for the weekend. These... More

Have just returned from a night's stay at this property . We had asked for an early arrival which was agreed. On our arrival our room was not ready..not a problem it only required pillowcase and towels..by 5.20pm still not ready. No towels for a shower!!I was given what could only be described as a rag for two people. The... More

Edward A, Owner at The Brownlow, responded to this review Its disappointing for us to get a two negative reviews and this one comes from the same party who summarised their stay as "Average B&B but not...". Again this client like their friend/relative received a refund to recognise we accepted that we fell below what we regard as our normal... More

It is important to emphasise that I stayed in Room 5; the others may well be more impressive. The linen was clean and wholesome, the en suite is sparkling, but... The bedroom has an unwelcoming feel, rather cramped and bare, reminiscent of a single ward in a hospital. The Brownlow claims to offer luxury accommodation, but this room does not... More

My family were part of the group attending a wedding referenced in Bigal57's review below. The rooms and linens were lovely. Debbie and Karine were welcoming and prepared fabulous breakfasts for our large group over 3 or 4 days. We enjoyed walking along the canal in the mornings to see the activity. Highly recommend.
