This newly renovated hotel looked lovely, a lot of thought had gone into texture and lighting and it was impressive when we arrived. The staff were friendly and efficient, the aircon wasn't cooling my room down but after I spoke with the receptionist someone came over and fixed it quickly. The rooms are large with comfy beds and a a lovely bathroom. Cleaners always kept the rooms clean each day with the option of changing towels and bedsheets.
We loved that the hotel had a range of guests, we would have breakfast around 9.30-10.30 and would see family's with young children and also older couples and friends. I think the young crowd who had been up late came to breakfast after us, we only saw one group of guys at the pool one day but they weren't noisy or disruptive.
The pool was a lovely size where you could swim laps, it wasn't that busy either time we went in the pool (afternoon time) and we always could find a sun lounger. One evening they had live music there which was lovely, the hotel should advertise this more so people are more aware, maybe a tv in the lobby with a slideshow of stuff that goes on in the hotel.
Breakfast was lovely too, presented beautifully and had a good range of foods. Also fresh orange juice was a real treat every morning!
Only negative is the sound of the road, many people still sat outside for breakfast, maybe they live near busy roads usually so it doesn't bother them. The road is a fast almost like a motorway right outside the hotel - its not the hotels fault and I would still stay again. But if you hate the sound of a road you could hear it loudly at the pool and if you like to sit on the balcony. That's the only thing the hotel is lacking is a view from the balcony and the sound. They have done a great job of sound proofing the rooms, you can't hear the road at all through the glass so it doesn't disrupt sleep at all, especially with people revving their sports cars. When you're in the pool your body gets used to the noise and tunes it out mostly but it is there. I personally was fine with it but my mum was more sensitive to that kind of noise and was disappointed she couldn't relax on the balcony as well. I would still stay in this hotel despite the road noise as they have done such a lovely job with everything else.
I would also recommend the Italian restaurant in the hotel - best food we had all holiday. And the ice cream there I wish I had tried on the first day it was the best in Puerto Banus.

During the Easter School break, we spent a weekday at Occidental Puero Banus, staying in a deluxe suite on a half-board basis. The hotel's location is very convenient, just a few minutes' walk from the marine promenade and harbor. Although the underground parking was handy, it came at an additional cost of 25 euros per night.
The room itself was spacious with a balcony, featuring a king-size bed and a sofa bed. However, it's important to note that there wasn't a separate area for the second bed; it was all in one room, albeit larger than the standard rooms. The "kitchenet" consisted of just a sink and a kettle, suitable only for making tea and coffee.
The bathroom was large, though it only had a shower, which may not suit everyone's preferences. On the bright side, the food offered at the hotel was excellent, catering to even the pickiest eaters.
Unfortunately, Occidental Puero Banus may not be the best choice for families with children. There were no entertainment options for kids, and there wasn't even a designated area for them to play, let alone a playground. Additionally, the swimming pools had odd opening hours from 11 am to 6 pm, and the water was quite cold, so we didn't use them.
While we didn't have any major complaints about housekeeping, there was a notable issue towards the end of our stay. After returning from a day out, we found that our room hadn't been cleaned, and there were no fresh towels. Despite calling the front desk three times, it took over an hour for someone to bring us towels so we could shower and head to dinner.
Overall, our experience at Occidental Puero Banus was mixed. While the location, room size, and food were highlights, the lack of family-friendly amenities and the housekeeping issue left something to be desired

Pleasantly surprised with this hotel. We knew when booking it had just had a big refurb, so wasn't sure what it was going to be like, but it was beautiful, cleanliness was great and so spacious. Even down to the smell, every time we left/entered the lobby it was the nicest smell, you could just tell they had thought about every little detail.
We got a good price as out of season and the pool wasn't in action (which didn't bother us).
Aircon didn't work for us / or it was user error - but again, wasn't too bothered as in Feb we only wanted in on in the night.
The staff were lovely and friendly, we were able to check in early. They even bought us up a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates up the room as we were celebrating 10 year anniversary, so that was really nice of them.
Breakfast buffet was included, we ate there 1 morning, lots of good choice, seating area was nice and clean, very busy - think this was down to the fact there was a football club staying there.
overall really really pleased with our stay here, would stay here again and recommend.

All staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The rooms are large, beds are very comfortable and the bathroom has 2 sinks and a large walk in shower which was very powerful. The breakfast has a great selection of hot and cold food, juices, fruit etc. I asked for an omelette each morning which was served to my table. We were half board and in the evening we were given a 3 course menu to choose from. This would have been fine however on 3 of our 7 day stay the menu was the exact same. On another 2 nights again a menu was repeated. So out of 7 nights the menu only changed 3 times. I understand it was not busy in the evenings and not enough people to put out a buffet but I feel the menu should have been different each evening. I spoke on 2 occasions to the reception staff who agreed and said they would speak to someone and get back to me but that never happened. The hotel is very central to the marina and the shops.

Don’t stay at this hotel if you want good service. We arrived as a group of 9 girls, the woman we dealt with on reception was awful, terrible customer service and had no idea what she was doing. Check in took well over 90 minutes and we were told our rooms weren’t ready and to come back at 2pm, which we did. We were the told we needed to check in again and that our rooms still weren’t ready and to top it off all of the rooms were miles away even though I had emailed them twice to request we were close together. As you can imagine we were furious by this point after spending another 60 minutes at the desk. The lady we dealt with was so unhelpful and rude, it made the whole experience 10 times worse. The breakfast was freezing cold every morning, the queue for the outside bar is a joke and again rude staff and the drinks and food are so expensive €25 for hot dog and chips. The pool is absolutely filthy, black marks round the side, all sorts floating in it, you would probably catch a disease if you spend too long in there. You would think the pool would be clean given the life guard shouts and blows her whistle if you go within a meter of the pool with a PLASTIC cup! The hotel and grounds are gorgeous, as are the rooms, they have everything you need and are spacious and cleaned daily however the road is so loud on an evening. Perfect location and within walking distance to everything.

Booked a weekend stay for my birthday and was surprised by this hotel! hotel lobby and bar are fabulous and smelt amazing on arrival. i was presently surprised by the lovely room i was given, very open with a gorgeous bathroom and lovely clean decor. i came back to my room to see the wonderful staff on the front desk had sent me up some champaygne and bar vouchers! the bed was huge and so comfortable, and breakfast was included which was a huge buffet with great selection from fruits to pasteries to eggs, bacon and toast. the pool is big with a nice pool bar which is very reasonably priced and nice chilled atmosphere

Going on our past experiences this is a ‘good’ hotel that could be far, far better. On checking in to the hotel room we encountered three issues, that even though were addressed promptly should have been picked up prior to our arrival as part of a basic room check. The hotel’s guests were mainly golfing groups and stag and hen parties. This meant that the hotel was quiet during the day around the pool area with the golfers out on the course and the other groups recovering from the night before. All the groups we encountered were good natured and never disturbed the young families that were enjoying the sun and facilities around the pool area. In my opinion there is little to attract children at this hotel, the pool area, which is gated does not open until 11am, so there’s no chance of an early morning swim. During our stay we only came across one form of entertainment and that was around the pool on Thursday and Friday between 5 - 7pm. where a good singer and guitarist performed.
As there appeared to be few guests whose package included evening meals the hotel is very quiet in the evenings.
The rooms are large and characterless as there are only plain walls, no pictures or bright colours . There is coffee / tea making facilities and for some reason an extractor fan, 4 cupboards which are all empty and a drawer which also has nothing in??? The air conditioning is ‘not fit for purpose’ as the rooms were hot during the evening even in May.
As stated in other reviews there is a busy dual carriageway directly outside the rear of the hotel so it’s not pleasant to spend anytime on the balcony.
In summary, a good location if you want to visit Puerto Banus and have a b & b option, also very good for access to the local golf courses. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend for families or older couples, like ourselves!!

This refurbished hotel is very good value and for a short stay you might think that it deserves higher ratings than it has. A longer stay however reveals the short comings-traffic noise! Yes the patio doors offer great sound insulation but with them open it was noisy-and we were on the "quiet side"! The hotel is adjacent to the busy A7 dual carriageway. In summer the pool area is right alongside the busy road, though there is a high wall and screening.That said it is also within easy walking distance of all of the amenities that Puerto Banus has to offer plus the excellent local bus service is close by. The lobby and restaurant areas of the hotel are very stylishly furnished. There is no "bar" as such though drinks service is offered from one of the seating areas. Beds are very comfortable, room sofas less so! The kitchenette in our superior room had a fridge, kettle and sink but nothing further. The staff are excellent, efficient friendly and good at their jobs. Would I stay in this hotel again?probably yes, would we stay in Puerto Banus again? almost certainly no. The hotel would be ideal for golfers with a car who travelled out each day but wanted stylish local evening dining .Less than ideal for older couples wanting a peaceful winter sunshine break.

Hotel located next to a busy motorway. Too noisy to sit out on balcony. Swimming pool is just 15 metres from this road although you couldn't tell this from the photo taken of the swimming pool .If you want somewhere quiet to stay avoid this hotel. Good choice of food for breakfast. Standard of cleaning of the rooms varied from good to poor, depending on who cleaned the room. Bed very comfortable but cheap foam pillows. No blankets provided.

My experience was great at breakfast, items labelled and the server bought me a gluten free selection of bread, cakes, each morning - and by the second day i didn't even have to ask for this when she saw me. (Dec 2023)
Didn't get to experience dinner but next time we go i hope it's the same.
There are more places to choose from in the Puerto Banus area.
