Not very many places to stay in this town, but this property has many things going for it. Walking distance of train station, supermarket right next door, in a main east-west street. Breakfast buffet has many choices and they even offered a bag lunch for the train since I checked out before 7AM. Olga speaks English well but the rest of the staff do not. No restaurant menu in English. Standard room is in the small side but works for a solo traveller.
I have stayed in this hotel a few times in the last 4 years. It is clean, reasonably well run and the staff are mostly attentive, some speak pretty good English and service is quite good. Food is so-so. Portions are fairly large. Breakfast is pretty good. I think I am right in saying that the Voskhod is the biggest hotel in town and, in my experience, I found it the best. There is a nightclub next door and it can get a bit rowdy.
Komsomolsk na Amure is a city that used to be prosperous (or at least developping) in soviet time and that is now far from it. Knowing this, hotel Voskhod could have been worst. Of course it looks old and outdated, but my single room was ok, staff tries to help with some english, wifi works and breakfast is nice. Plus, it's close to both train and bus stations.
