Had no real expectations of this hotel as a stopover on our way to the Dordogne. Our initial impression on arrival was of an attractive, typically French rural & quiet hotel. Staff were welcoming and friendly, we were given a large family room with 2 double beds which overlooked the terrace and garden and had a very spacious bathroom. All... More

First stayed here ten years ago when rooms were simple but compensated for by magnificent restaurant and great setting. Rooms now fully renovated so makes one of nicest places we have stayed in. Highly recommended as base to explore the Loire valley, as stop over on trip down to Pyrenees or as place for gourmet weekend.

A very pleasant hotel in a lovely rural location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, as others have commented, the bedrooms are small with rather restricted shower facilities (but plenty of hot water!). We were looking forward to a gastronomic evening meal, but found the cooking style rather heavy and old-fashioned, so enjoyed the meal somewhat less than we had... More

We had a fabulous overnight stay here on our cycle tour. We were made very welcome, with somewhere secure for the bikes. We were shown to a large attractive room with plenty of space and a welcome bath and tea making facilities. The food was of an exceptional standard with plenty to fill us after a days cycling. Service was... More

We were travelling from northern Spain en route for Calais and after an 8hr drive I was initially pleased with the hotel's location. It is situated in a very quiet, rural area some 15km from the motorway. The grounds are very pleasant and well maintained and the restaurant is located in the gardens. However, the room was exceptionally small and... More

We stayed here for one night midway between the Pyrenees and Calais , having booked at short notice due to an unpleasant stay at another property nearby. This place was a delightful haven. Our dog was made very welcome by the owners and their friendly labradour and we had a comfortable room. The highlight of the stay had to be... More

After reading all the reports about it on this forum we had great hopes for this hotel but were sadly disappointed. Our room, which did have a lovely double aspect, was very small. The only place to put our suitcases to open was on the floor ... to be repeatedly tripped over. The wallpaper was peeling in places, the bedside... More

I think you will have to travel a long way to find another superb family run hotel similar to Villa des Bordes. We have been staying at this hotel for more than 6 years on route from the UK and the return journey. The hotel is going from strength to strength and gets better each time we stay. The cuisine... Stopped here 1 night en route from the South as it had secure private parking and it's own restaurant( which after a long drive was most welcome). Very nice, quiet location and place. Room large ;clean;comfortable and the bathroom was large and modern. Restaurant a little formal but menus and quality of imaginative, well prepared and presented food was excellent. A... More

My wife and I live in Paris and we often visit the Val de Loire to discover new culinary delights – among Parisians this region is notorious for its excellent cuisine. Our meal at the Villa des Bordes was exceptional. The cuisine perfectly complemented by attentive service and classic surroundings. We opted for the Menu Découverte at 26 € which... More
