I got to stay here right after they opened and the hospitality was excellent, but most of all I was impressed with the facilities. It is a new build and you can tell care went into selecting the finishes and attention was paid to comfort. It wasn't dingy or dark. It was really well lit including lots of natural light with tall ceilings and an open and friendly living and kitchen space downstairs. The back deck is awesome too and while conveniently located in North Asheville just off the interstate and a main road, the back yard felt private and very much like being in the mountains of Asheville!
The rooms have keypad entry as well as the main door and the proprietor lives on the property.
Really close to Reynolds Village, Stoney Knob Cafe and just about a 5 minute drive to downtown Asheville. Also close to Asheville Community Yoga where they have a donation based yoga class system!
I stayed in the all female room and the beds were cozy and comfortable with my own reading light but most important was the curtain that I could use close myself off at night. These are not open bunk beds. They are built into the wall and substantial - not rickety metal beds. I had a bottom bunk but I would have felt safe and secure in a top bunk as well. I liked the bathroom was right across the hall for women and the mens’ was on the other end of the upstairs. The showers also had wooden boards to step on so you weren’t in a puddle on the floor when you got out. Check out photos!

Ryan and his dog Chloe conveyed welcoming energy. Every aspect of the property inside and out was well thought out. Construction is solid, with ample space for everyone, their belongings and automobiles. There is a large sunny back deck and plenty of windows to let in light and air. The kitchen had everything and more. Couch, chairs and an auxiliary table enable a variety of activities to happen. The beds are wide and long with curtains for privacy. Shelves are located in convenient places and having my own light allowed me to read at night without disturbing anyone else. Spacing in the lower bunk allowed me to sit up with no fear of banging my head. I very much appreciated how clean the bathroom sinks, toilets and showers were and I noticed cleaning had occurred while we were out hiking and dining. The ability to use a keypad made entry and exits simple. Asheville has its own friendly vibe for shoppers and diners. Hikes to mountains and waterfalls were easily accessed. We stayed 5 nights and I look forward to visiting again.

The Lazy Tiger is great! This was my first time staying in a hostel and it was a wonderful experience. Ryan, the owner, is a fantastic host. He had great recommendations of things to do in the area and was super accommodating when I had questions/requests.

As a young solo female traveler, I felt very safe. All of the outside doors were always locked with a keypad (you get the code via email before you check in) and I had a physical key to my private room, so I could lock it or leave it unlocked as I pleased. I'm pretty sure the dorm rooms use a keypad lock system like the outside doors.

I stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom and it was a better experience than many (more expensive!) hotels I've stayed in! As many other reviews have said, the hostel was extremely clean and well-appointed. In addition to the basics, the private room included a pair of fuzzy robes and fortune cookies when I arrived :). The common area had board games, books, a community sketchpad, and lots of guidebooks and coupons/discounts to local establishments. There is breakfast included.

Chloe, the hostel dog, was so sweet, very well-behaved, and always greeted me when I came in :). She only stays on the first floor in the common area, but that may be something to note if you're very allergic or really really don't like dogs.

Wonderful experience! I'll be back. The other reviews are spot on. My aging body appreciated five nights of restorative sleep on my thick and wider than usual twin bunk bed. My friend and I cooked our own breakfast every day in the spotless, well stocked kitchen. The ambience was warm, inviting and very peaceful. Ryan's pooch Chloe was so sweet, well behaved and brought a joyful presence to our time spent at the hostel. It's obvious that Ryan loves welcoming his guests, all of whom were respectful. We went on a few hiking outings that were several miles away, so being just off I-26 was an added plus. My memory of our stay at The Lazy Tiger will live on as I listen to The Lazy Tiger Playlist on Spotify. Check it out! A big shout out to Ryan and fellow guests for making our visit to the majestic mountains of western NC one of simplicity, comfort and ease.

Very clean! Ryan was a great host, very accommodating and knows A LOT about the local area. He was so helpful!

The building/rooms were very clean, there was food available for free breakfast, which was convenient. Also, the beds were surprisingly comfy and long enough for my 6-foot frame :)

I felt very safe in the hostel and the surrounding neighborhood. Also, located right next to a coffee shop and a gas station.

My 1st stay in a hostel and my impression is WOW! This place is beautiful, lick the floor clean, cozy, comfy, organized, inviting, well stocked, in a great location, with easy parking. Ryan has put so much in to building this incredible place. From construction, to lighting, to electrical/power outlets, to decor, furnishings, kitchen utensils, hooks to hang things, the library - the thoughtfulness and quality are all evident. I have so much admiration for Ryan and what it must have taken to make The Lazy Tiger a reality. He has drawn from his vast experience as a world traveler, staying in places from primitive to luxurious - and put everything you need under one roof. It's not right in downtown Asheville, but very close. Woodfin is a lovely place to explore in itself. No city traffic, right off of an interstate, so easy to navigate in any direction from this location. I came from Auburn, AL and was lucky enough to have conversations with travelers from Australia, Turkey, Germany and Raleigh. Everyone seemed interested in what each of us could bring in to our conversations. How can you not love a place that comes with a house dog? Chloe, you sweet girl. I particularly love it that they have bird feeders and a compost bin. You absolutely must stay here, you will be so delighted and enriched. Good bye hotels, I'm a "Hostelite" for life now because of my experience with The Lazy Tiger. Job well done Ryan, I look forward to returning!

Staying at The Lazy Hostel was one of the best parts of my trip. My friend and I were there for some continuing education, which was pretty intense. Coming “home” to the hostel felt like a magical space to decompress. Ryan is such a welcoming, open hearted individual that we found ourselves spending hours each day hanging out and enjoying great conversation. This is the only choice for me whenever I stay in Asheville from now on!

Fantastic hostel! Really clean bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas. Comfy bunks with chargers and privacy curtains. Ryan also went out of his way to provide local recommendations for me at short notice. The light breakfast which was included was very welcome too. I can’t wait to come back!

I had such a great time staying at the Lazy Tiger. Ryan was so kind and helpful the entire time. Beautiful hostel and clean! I felt extremely comfortable here. His dog was so sweet and added to the experience. Isabelle (who's painting the amazing mural) was so welcoming and excited to hear about our lives and journeys. I would recommend this stay to anyone I know. Got to meet some amazing people and learn about their lives. Thank you for a great experience.

I've stayed in my share of hostels in the world. The Lazy Tiger Hostel wasn't just clean it was immaculate. Well-appointed kitchen, comfortable lounge/living room area, deck and ample free parking were some of the highlights. Close enough to all Asheville has to offer but out of the fray. Some traffic noise but would never deter me from choosing this hostel again. Ryan, the owner, offered ideas for things to do based on my interests and he was spot on. Can't say enough great things!!
