Just a little more than half an hour away from the capital city of Chetumal and its airport, and about the same distance to the border with the country of Belize, Rancho Encantado is situated on the shores of the pristine waters of Laguna Bacalar. This area, in the southernmost part of the Yucatan Peninsula, is just at the point of developing as a tourist destination for the eco-minded traveler who seeks escape from the larger, often over-developed areas of the northern part of the Peninsula.

We've been meaning to come here for the last twenty years! We were given a tour of the place before it opened in the late nineties but were never able to snag a reservation. Finally! We got in! Reception was very courteous and we were escorted to our room. It was very clean, bright, and comfortable, with incredible views of the lagoon. We were close to the dining room so we availed ourselves of lunch immediately. Excellent, with many vegetarian options. Breakfast was excellent too, with very good service. The grounds are amazing, with pathways through well kept but very thick and verdant jungle terrain. There is free kayaks available and the wooden pier had hammocks and lounge chairs overlooking the lagoon. There were also swings in the water iteself! Lots of fun! Will definitely return! A special shout out to Chef Velasco who was very courteous and personally greeted all of his customers!

I recommend to do the 3 hour boattrip on the lagoon where you see al the different kinds of blue water!! We hope to come back here once!!!!

We loved the view, the grounds, breakfast, free kayaks/paddle boards, the hammocks and chaises on the pier, the security, and the staff. Everyone was so nice. The French woman who checked us in is super sweet. Check in, and check out were a breeze. Our room was plain, but very clean. We appreciated the shelves, fridge, and water filter in the room. The breakfast was my favorite of all the places we ate in Mexico. The only thing I didn't like was that the tile floor would get very wet, probably from the heat and humidity, but we solved this by turning up the fan and A/C.

Dear Lisa, It was a huge pleasure to have you and your family in our hotel!! Thank you for sharing your feelings and experience during your stay with us. Our objective is to avoid the use of plastic bottles that's why in all our rooms we installed a water filter... Thank you for appreciating that. We hope to see all of you back soon in the Hotel Rancho Encantado. Warm regards.

Just had an excellent stay at Rancho Encantado in Bacalar. The location is perfect with access to the lagoon. Plenty of activities including kayak, pontoon boat, paddle. Food is great and service was excellent. Really enjoyed the chilaquiles for breakfast. Rooms are very comfortable. Great size and very well kept. I look forward to coming back.
