My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights. From the moment we made contact with Ellerton to now the experience has been wonderful. The views are amazing, the pool is a gem in the heat, the rooms are first class (and we travel a lot) and above all the staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much for them and...

This really was miles from anywhere and really hard to find but the wow factor was in buckets full. The bungalow is like walking into an English country house with lovely comfortable sofas - the only difference being that all the doors and windows are open for the breeze. Our room was a little bit smaller than we had been...

Our room in the old tea factory building was very spacious and comfortable. The garden which was designed by the English owners is a total delight and the croquet was fun. The local walk using the hotel's map was fascinating.A great touch is the free alcohol. We had excellent service. At present the principal access road is under reconstruction and...

Over the years the access road to Ellerton has been a huge problem for us, since it is also used by large municipal buses and tea-factory container lorries, in relation to which we are an incredibly minor user. Having said that we have on two occasions, used our own money and the help of villagers to "patch" the road. But...

This privately owned colonial roperty is quite remote and set in beautiful countryside. Our room was in the main building and you did feel as though you were staying in someone's house. The furniture and personal pieces in the house were very stylish and done with great thought and in keeping with the period of the house. The staff were...

A great base from which to visit the Kandy area. The bungalow was an oasis of hospitality surrounded by hills and lush vegetation. A friendly welcome and excellent service giving a glimpse of what the best parts of living in a traditional plantation house in the old days might have been like. Comfortable rooms ,a pool with a view and...

We last visited in 2013, and always knew that we would return. This time we brought an extra 9 people, 3 generations ,experienced a wonderful 3 nights here. We slept in the Valley House and the Main House, such beautiful, elegant rooms, enjoyed the stunning views from the Valley House verandah, and walked in the lovely, flower filled garden. The...

Excellent stay here, with polite staff, in the lush hills about half an hour above Kandy. Great pool, hot in the day but not too hot. Owned by an English family and it shows with Country Life liberally spread around. Well worth a few days to recuperate.

Ellerton was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed for 4 nights over the new year period. This was the first of our stops in SL. As some reviewers have stated the road up to Ellerton is bumpy and a bit of a drive, BUT if you truly want to get away from it all then expect that from the...

This property was recommended to me by an architect and you can see why. It is like going back in time, such elegance and refinement in an unparalleled setting. 1. Ellerton is set high on a hill looking down into a stunning valley. (The road to get there is VERY steep and bumpy but persevere, you get there in the...

The hotel is delightful set in beautiful gardens that overlook the hills surrounding Kandy. .it has a grand collonial feel to it being a ex tea plantation house. The rooms were cosy and large if some aspects very tired ,particularly the bathroom which was in need of retiling We spent 3nights in the hotel and took advantage of relaxing on...

I am sorry that Jane did not enjoy her stay at Ellerton as much as we would like, but in response to the points that she makes: I have no idea when she was staying with us but if the temple [not a mosque] had extensive chanting, then it must have been a special and particularly religious day. We do...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ellerton is a fine old tea-estate bungalow where our aim is to give you the feeling you are staying in a friend's house and not a hotel. We deliberately lack many of the features associated with hotels but these are more than compensated for by a genuinely relaxed and informal atmosphere. ... more   less
