We have not been in Austria for years. Preferred Switzerland. But a daughters and our son in law said we could join them to Gargellen, Voralberg near the Swiss border, were they had selected a good hotel called Madrisa. Well indeed, this hotel is a real gem. It is the oldest hotel in the little village of Gargellen, family owned.... More

We arrived in Gargellen for the first time in 1973, which adds up to 43 years with only a handful of missed years. Why this addiction? The village itself.& the incomparable Madrisa Hotel, owned & run of course by Hans Karl.Lily & their family with such unwavering warmth & efficiency providing the perfect environment for friendships to flourish & thrive,so we have... Wonderful food, classic jugendstil architecture, very well run and family owned. All who go there will inevitably return to this welcoming, extremely well run and comfortable hotel. We have been four times (and counting). Gargellen is a small picturesque Austrian ski station, perfect for families with young children with some off piste and ski touring. The Madrissa is the oldest... More

Unfortunately we had booked our room somewhere else, where we were less than happy, but were stuck there. We wished we had discovered the charming Madrisa Hotel earlier! But at least we were able to dine there every night and were treated by their lovely staff to delicious meals and felt like in Austrian food heaven. The bar greets you... More

Just back from a far too short, end of season stay. The Madrisa is just so totally and utterly relaxing. Not much ever changes - which is just perfect! The restaurant setting, food and service is as always excellent. The management and staff are always very friendly and totally professional. And the snow was amazing, fresh end of season powder.... Spent Christmas here with partner and two kids. Old fashioned, family run hotel, excellent service from arrival to departure. Good family room with two bedrooms and a small sitting room. Decor a little dated but high quality fittings with charm. Housekeeping is excellent. Pool and small kids play room and table tennis room gave them somewhere to get together. Dining... More

Just stayed at this charming hotel for the umpteenth time. It's addictive. The Rhomberg family who own the Madrisa are always charming, friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, spacious and always clean. The food is superb and substantial and service is typically Austria high standard. The wine cellar extensive as is the enthusiasm of Raymond the head waiter. Carola runs... More

We stayed in the Madrisa hotel for 9 nights in August and we really enjoyed our stay. It's an ideal location for hiking tours, very close to the Schafberg gondola. Beautiful environment. The hotel is also organizing guided hiking tours twice a week. Our room was very quiet and comfortable (although the interior was not really our taste) and our... More

This hotel gives you quiet authenticity with a fantastic staff team working hard behind the scenes to make sure every detail is in place. If you want glitz then this is not for you but that, perhaps, is its charm. We left after a week feeling relaxed and refreshed (although possibly a dress size larger than we had arrived, due... We've stayed here many times and have always loved it. Beautiful ski area, hills not too crowded. Staying at this hotel is like staying in a beautiful country estate. Population of the village is 300. It's at the end of the road going up the mountain. Great for any age, with or without children. And the food is wonderful. They... More
