The hotel is typical alpine hotel. Furnishings lovely. Very clean and in nice quiet area. Beds hard ask for a mattress topper if you find hard beds uncomfortable. Do not go to this hotel at Christmas food is appalling. Our Christmas Dinner consisted of chunks of turkey, pureed? and 3 sprouts which should have been thrown away long ago. We were not allowed to use hotel facilities on Christmas day due to a private party. Hope their food was better than ours.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel over Christmas as part of a Leger holiday. We had a great time. It was a white Christmas and snowed on Christmas Eve. The rooms were great, very large and comfortable. We had a room at the back with a view of the mountains. It was friendly, traditional hotel. Food was good, portions could have been bigger. The setting and views make this a friendly, comfortable place to stay. We visited Innsbruck which was about 40 minutes away.

We came here for a couple of evening meals during our stay locally. Wide range off food with a god choice of type. Covering all ranges from low cost to Steaks. Good childrens menu as well. Wide choice of desserts and drinks as well.

The positives. Yes there are, the cleanliness of the room and the location. Unfortunately that's where it ends.

You pay 200 euros per night for a double room, which is not little and you expect something for that. Especially if 4 stars are displayed on the facade. When you enter it looks nice, but you won't get any explanation at the reception. Grab your key and then go upstairs. Beautiful furniture in the hallway and cool decor, so we thought the room was the same, but unfortunately. Still carpet everywhere, no fridge, no kettle and no air conditioning. You can open the window to get some cool air, but because of the busy road where a lot of traffic passes during the night, you won't be able to sleep a wink from the noise. The bed is the worst. It is a wooden plank with a mattress that is rock hard. You get up in the morning exhausted.

Furthermore, the bathroom is stick old and the towels are just like sandpaper. The curtains are thin, so the spotlight that is on outside at night provides a lot of light in the room.

The breakfast is ok but the bread is not fresh. There are rolls but they are not crispy. Choice of toppings. The egg is too salty.

When you eat there in the evening you feel like you are at camp. Pure is made of flakes, meat is fried way too much, the same salad every day and everything is thrown on your plate. Not worthy of a restaurant.

We were there for 9 nights and found it hell. Unfortunately it was a group holiday and we could not change hotels.

There are much better hotels in the same price range nearby.

My stay at Hotel Cafe Zillertal was unfortunately a real disappointment. First, I noticed that the room was in dire need of renovation. The decor was dated and it seemed like nothing had been updated in years. The bathroom may have been renovated, but the room itself was in a shabby state.

The cleanliness was also lacking. The room was obviously not cleaned thoroughly before I arrived. The floor was dirty, the windows and counters were dusty. In the bathroom, the fixtures were smeared with toothpaste, the mirror was covered in splatters of toothpaste, and the glass on the side was also dirty. I even found hair from previous guests in the drawers and on the floor, which was really gross. The toilet had urine splatters, indicating a lack of cleaning.

Breakfast was another disappointment. The selection was minimal and it seemed like some of the products came from plastic packaging. For the price I paid, I would definitely have expected better quality.

In summary, my stay at Hotel Cafe Zillertal was a very bad experience. The rooms were cold, old and dirty, the breakfast was disappointing and the value for money was unacceptable. I cannot recommend this hotel.

We traveled with the family in June 2023 and were thrilled with the hotel. Great pool, excellent food with half board, top cleanliness and service. Great value for money - we'd love to go back!

I have just returned from this hotel having had a 5 night stay with leger holidays. I loved it! The setting is beautiful. The style is apparently typically austrian(first time to austria) & the furnishings are beautiful to look at.I had a side room so on the large terrace i was able to look to the mountains front & back. For once a single supplement was good value. I was allocated a double room, which was nice instead of a pokey single room, which was huge, large ''austrian'' style bed, good shower/bathroom with constant hot water (no problems with it running out because everyones showering at the same time morning & evening as i've had before in other places). Ok there are not millions of staff running around as it is run by the family so at times you actually didn't see anyone but this was not a problem to me. The hotel resturant is VERY well used by lots of local people which is always a good sign as the food is excellent, plenty of it & always piping hot. There is not a lot to do in Strass, but its a joy to walk arond the village & admire the pretty houses & church. There is a train station & a bus service so you can get to other places quite easily from what i could gather but for me the best bit was being able to walk for miles looking at the amazing scenery and enjoy the peace & quiet, even though it is on a main road i still found it quiet maybe its noisier in peak season,i dont know. All in all i would highly recommend this lovely hotel to anyone & hope to return myself one day.

We have just come to the end of our 6 day visit to Hotel Cafe Zillertal in Strass.
The hotel is Family run and is warm , friendly . and comfortable.
The bedrooms are a normal double size and I slept like a log
The food is good and I have no negative comments to make
The free .Wi-Fi is fast.

The location is excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel.

One thing is certain, this Hotel is NOT a poor school hostel which one reviewer seems to think

This is called a hotel- but is actually a poor school hostel!! Food is extremely poor and one nights' evening meal (for families and adults) was turkey dinosaurs and chips and the vegetarian option was a bowl of mixed veg in a cheese sauce with frozen uncooked oven chips!!!! The 24hr vending machine was never refilled!!!! There are NO tea & coffee facilities in the hotel let alone the room!!! Bar prices are astronomical so we were forced to rehydrate on tap water from our bathroom sink most days!! definitely not what you need after a long days skiing!!!!!

This was the third Christmas for which we have stayed in this hotel, courtesy of Leger Holidays (tour 14XAG). There must be something about it which attracted us so many times!

We had room 423, in the front of the hotel overlooking the main road to Rattenberg and having good views across the fields, the village and up the Ziller Valley. On clear days it was possible to see the narrow gauge train making its way to Mayrhofen. We had requested a front facing room from both Leger and Strass Hotel. Neither let us down. The room was clean and tidy, as we expected from our previous two stays and from typical Austrian friendship. Towels were changed daily.

The hotel is still family run, with Josef overseeing everything and everyone. His sons run the place. Service was good and friendly, food was hot, well cooked, well presented and nourishing. On Christmas Day four members of the Strass Band played for us in the bar. On Boxing Day Josef played in a duo in the celler bar, with dancing included. He is the leader of the Strass Band and a very good wind instrument player.

The relaxing nature of this hotel, the friendly ambience and the helpfulness of the staff make up for its position. There is nothing to do in Strass at this time of year. Whenever we walked past during the day, the only (as far as we found) shop was closed. The railway station is always open and there are frequent trains between Jenbach and Mayrhofen. It is perhaps 10 minutes walk from the hotel. There are other hotels in Strass but none as large, from the outside, as Strass Hotel.

That is perhaps the reason why we stayed there three times. We like the place, its peacefulness and how relaxed we can be.
