not a 5 star hotel, and great value apartment. for self catering. super adequate for skiing.. we came this year again for a week long ski trip. 2 adult and 2 children. 200 meter from the ski lifts. 400 meter from the a little super market, super handy and great price. boots and rest of the stuff we had with us. super slopes and all level of skiing , back again next winter.. good value, fab holiday, but we stayed in the self catering option.

Whilst I booked through a company called Allez-Ski, I still stayed in Les Villages du Bachat so I thought I’d review it anyway. I booked an apartment for 6 people even though there were only 4 of us in the party and it would definitely be a squeeze for 6 (I’m not sure there would be enough hot water for 6 to have a shower which is needed after a long day of skiing). The beds, although a little thin, are comfy and we managed to get lots of sleep but the walls between apartments are also a bit thin so it can be noisy at night (and there is just a sliding door that doesn’t close properly between the double and the rest of the apartment). Overall it was clean (except the ski lockers but that is to be expected) but small so only suitable for people who plan to be skiing most of the time. The location of our building (Asters A) was perfect for us because it is so close to the slopes as well as good restaurants like White Deer and Le Chalet but I can imagine it would be more frustrating if you were further away.

We are 2 adults and 3 children (boys aged 15, 13 and 10) We ski in Chamrousse every winter (fantastic!) and decided it would be fun to check out the area in the summer too - so we stayed for 2 nights. Our usual accommodation wasn't available so we stayed in Les Villages du Bachat instead. The accommodation was pretty basic - and in need of some updating - the curtains were threadbare, kitchen tools basic etc! But for skiing accommodation it was quite spacious. Location wise - it is a lot of different blocks - so it depends on which one you are in - for summer time - ours was perfect - near lots of walking pathways but for skiing it wouldn't be ideal as a bit of a hike up to the ski lifts. Chamrousse in summer was lovely - quiet but excellent for hiking - we had so much fun looking at all the routes we normally see covered in snow - the kids walked all the way up to the Croix with no moaning at all! I did a couple of runs - the routes for walking/ running are stunning. There is also lots of down hill mountain biking - we didn't do it, just watched others. 1 full day was enough for us - but we really enjoyed it. Evening wise it is very quiet (many things open in the winter were closed in the summer). There is a pool available but when we got there we noticed that you had to wear proper swimming trunks not bermuda style trunks - we weren't told this before and would have had to buy new ones - this should be made clear when booking. It wasn't warm enough to swim when we were there so we didn't swim anyway, but pool looked a decent size.

Room Tip: If skiing ensure it is near the ski life, if in summer - this doesn't really matter.

Spent a week in Chamrousse on a family skiing trip and stayed at this hotel. Not really a normal hotel but rather a large group of apartment style buildings with several self catering apartments in each. Apartments are very basic with the biggest down side being the beds which are not great to say the least. You get bed linen but no towels which are sold for 5euros a person. Beds have old blankets which you try to avoid touching and smell of dust collected over many months. After a day of skiing getting into an unaccommodating bed is a big let down. Shower room is good but on the last day we did not have hot water. The reception is not open all day so if you arrive late you will find you room key and linens on a bench outside reception with instructions in French on how to arrive to your apartment - if you are not French speakers like us then you will have a bit of a hard time. My verdict: If you must travel on a budget or book late and this is the only place you got then go for it with reduced expectations. Ask for an apartment close to the ski lift otherwise you might have an apartment requiring a long walk to the lift. For over $200 per night I was expecting more from this hotel. If you plan your trips enough time in advance then better options should be considered in Chamrousse or the vicinity.
