The Islander Guest House is a small family-run hotel. We are located on a property of more than 4,000sq metres of flat land at Anse Kerlan Beach, in the north-west coast of Praslin, one of the world's most beautiful tropical islands. The Islander Hotel offers comfortable relaxation in a holiday home of your choice, in self-contained Creole style bungalows, ranging from Standard to Family Villa. All accommodations stand proudly amongst well-tended lush gardens, filled with a riot of flowering shrubs. The Islander Hotel has its own private parking. A tortoise-pen is found close to the parking area and guests can feed them from the nearby grasses or leaves. The reception offers assistance for all your holiday requirements, such as excursions, fishing trip, diving, car rental, taxis, and more. The beach is a few steps away, providing the ultimate enjoyment of sun, sea and sand practically on your doorstep, and capping most every day with glorious sunsets. There you can find a newly built gazebo in the Balinese style, with beach beds, chairs and tables, shower, and other amenities.

After arriving and paying for 5 nights we were shown a stinky bungalow where shortly we found several cockroaches in the bed and bathroom on the same day. Owners claimed this is normal as we came to Seychelles so we should have "expected cockroaches are here". They said we can resign but they will not return our money and that we will find cockroaches in all next hotels as well so no point. We resigned and never slept in this nightmare place, and they never returned us money saying we can publish pictures and videos of cockroaches and they do not care. This shows 620 Euro is more important for them than avoiding this review you are reading which says a lot about these people. Also they said we should know that having light on in the room and open windows are reasons why cockroaches visited our bed. I asked how on earth that could be prevented as there is no glass in the windows or doors of the bungalows so you can not close the place to prevent insects and lizards from entering. In fact you can easily put your all fingers through each window and the doors. They had no idea how to respond to this argument and said we should not use light in the room when it is dark outside (if you like siting in dark after 6pm this may help) ! At some point they said we must have put these cockroaches ourselves into the bed and bathroom on purpose and made a video of them as we did not like their place and wanted to get our money back this way as other guests they had in the past (I have a recording of this surreal conversation). We never got our money back for these 5 days we have not spent there and we had to pay again for the next hotel (obviously not a single cockroach there). They obviously lied to us saying each hotel will have cockroaches trying to manipulate us into staying at their place which would ruin our holidays. Avoid this place and their owners at all costs!

First, the owners and staff are lovely people who went way out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and taken care of - they offered everything from great local tips, to organising boat excursions for us (whatever you do, don't miss out on a visit to Cousin Island!), to shipping our left-behind cell phone to us! Our bungalow was very comfortable: Spacious, immaculately clean on arrival (and cleaned daily if desired) and very peaceful. The restaurant is in a lovely setting, within a lovely garden from where you can watch the waves roll in, and enjoy beautiful sunsets. There are sunbeds available , or just find yourself a spot in the sand (sunny and shady spots). You can easily float in the waves, but I recommend bringing water shoes (anyway much safer in the Seychelles due to the possibility of sleeping Rays, Stonefish, etc.). We enjoyed several delicious lunches and dinners in their Capricorn restaurant, and truly enjoyed the fresh tropical juice blends in between meals. The Islander is located in a quiet part of the island, and is connected to the rest of the island by bus, the bus stop being across the street from the entrance. You can also enjoy a panoramic walk over to the famous Anse Lazio. (Although our favorite beaches were the small ones found between Grand Anse and Anse Marie Louise). We loved staying here and look forward to returning to long mornings watching and listening to the fire-orange Madagascar Fodies calling from the soft-leafed Indian laburnum tree just next to our veranda, and the flickering Seychelles Sunbirds foraging in the adjacent Geiger Tree. Bungalow 1 has our highest recommendation!

This is a place that has nothing special and a place I wouldn't stay again for that same reason. The bungalows were spacious with a nice terrace to the front and ceiling fans in the kitchen and the bedroom. There was air-conditioning available however at an extra charge of 8 euros per day, which I personally thought it was cheeky and unnecessary to add that extra cost to the customer when the accommodation was already expensive (we were already paying about 150 euros per night). The staff wasn't very welcoming, particularly the lady at reception. She was very much just to the point and, in hospitality, there is the need to treat the customer on a friendly and welcoming manner. I felt we were just another group of tourists paying for a room, not a warm welcome arrival. If you decide to stay at the Islander hotel, I would recommend to pay a bit extra and book the bungalows in front of the property complex. To note also that the property has a small artificial beach to the front, which was fine and the main plus was the sun sets, which were nice from the sea front part of the hotel.

My partner and I spent 4 nights here in the middle of November. We were slightly overwhelmed by the choice of places to stay on Praslin but, after lots of research and speaking to a friend who lives on Mahé, we chose the Islander Hotel. If you want a five star chain and the prices which come with it, go to Constance Lemeuria up the road - which is lovely (and the way to get to Anse Georgette). However, if you want a friendly, small place which is run by lovely people and is good value, I cannot recommend this place enough. Our cottage was lovely: spacious, immaculately clean on arrival (and cleaned daily) and very peaceful. The restaurant is in a lovely setting, next to a small, well-maintained garden from where you can also hear the waves crashing. The sea itself is a ten second walk from the restaurant, a lovely place to watch the sunset. There are sunbeds available and plenty of space (in direct sun and shade). The sea water is just beautiful, and it’s lovely knowing you are less than a minute’s walk from your cottage. Every morning we enjoyed a hearty breakfast and all of the evening meals did not disappoint - my particular highlights being the fish stir fry and the passion fruit sorbet! The location is about a 20 minute drive from the ferry port, or minutes from the airport. It’s in a fairly quiet part of the island - some people may prefer to be in the busier parts, but we found the location perfect, as it makes you feel like you’re properly getting away from it all. It’s also really easy to rent a car or bikes. Needless to say, I loved staying here and would return in a heartbeat!

Fantastic place to stay! The apartment was well equipped and service was perfect (clean, hot water in both kitchen and bathroom, prompt reaction to requests). There's a lovely garden paving the way to a gorgeous beach. We were able to book a car with the owner family too which was convenient at times. There's a supermarket just a 200m walk away. The restaurant served very good food. Staff was always friendly and helping out with everything. We would definitely stay there again.

What a relief, after my search for just the right place to discover the well-kept, prettily landscaped grounds of The Islander. There the owner/manager and island native Miette" as she is known, along with her grown children and a team of loyal, memorable personnel (Zita, Madeleine and Josianne) run a property where the individual clients, be they honeymooners or lone adventurers like myself, get equal respect and care. Here the emphasis in on who you are, not on how much money you will spend. Each little cottage is quaint, immaculate and authentically furnished, including a well-equipped kitchenette and little private patio. The property is perfectly situated toward the cleaner, quieter tip of the island on Anse Kerlan, which in my opinion is one of the best series of pure, white-sand beaches on Praslin. The bus stop and several good shops are within easy walking distance. The hotel has its own sweet little cove from which you can swim at any time of day or evening or, regardless as to whether your cottage is directly facing the water or not, be out in seconds with your feet in the sea, your eyes on the stars, and a broad and beautiful view. Additionally, I have seen many a sunset on many a maritime trip, and these are without a question some of the most sensational. Finally, there is the Capricorn Restaurant which serves tasty local dishes in a setting as lovely inside as it is out. Although I vowed every night to try another place to eat, I always ended up dining on the premises where I could feel the sea breeze and gaze out at the water, or even go sit on the sea wall between my appetizer and entrée. Best of all, however, was the local wit and wisdom character and generosity of the resident family whom I already miss tremendously!

We stayed here five 5 nights, and it was a pleasant stay. The apartment was large, very clean and well maintained, but I can’t help thinking that it seemed a bit old and with a dull interior. It was well equiped with everything we needed though. A small terrace outside with two chairs, but only a small table, so we had to eat inside. The staff were nice and helpful, and they can help arrange tours and rent a car. The main advantage is the great location by the sea, with sunbeds and a small private beach. It is also walking distance to Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio. A few improvements are possible. The bed was ok, but the pillow was like rock. Beach towels are available, but for some reason can be changed only every third day. AC costs extra, which I don’t understand because it is almost impossible to stay without. An the internet connection is not the best. But still it can be recommended.

We stayed in Islander for 4 days last week and enjoyed every bit of it. We arrived earlier than expected and received a warm welcome from our hostess, Miette and the chef, Rakesh. We got a early check in and just then we realized that we had left our bag with camera and money in the taxi. Miette and Patrick quickly came to help, started calling the taxi drivers around airports and affirming us that we will get it back soon and we got it real soon! The place is well maintained, spotlessly clean, enough sun beds and sitting arrangements on the beach front, be it in shade or just under the open sky. They provide free wi-fi which is best around the restaurant area, no coverage was there in our room. We had to come out of the room to have signal. Location: The property is less than 5 km from the airport and dot on beach. Petite Anse Kerlan is the beach name and it's a beautiful beach! No beach is private in Seychelles but you get a feel of this being a private beach. It has a supermarket at 2 minutes walking distance and you get pretty much everything there. Rooms: All the rooms are on ground floor, set amidst a tropical garden. Each villa consists of 2 units comprising a bedroom, attached bath, kitchen with dining area and a balcony each. Kitchen is well equipped for self catering, room is nicely furnished with an attached bath having a shower cubicle. AC is there but you have to pay extra to use that. No TV is there but who goes to Seychelles to watch TV! They had decorated it with flowers which was a pleasant welcoming gesture. Restaurant: The Capricorn restaurant is on the beach with indoor and outdoor sitting arrangements. The chefs are too good, we ate few meals there and they were excellent. We never thought of eating somewhere else. Staffs: I must mention the super-hospitable staffs who made every attempt to make our stay memorable. Miette, Josianne, Rakesh, Pradeep and all the other staffs whom I could not name here, were excellent. Now the improvement areas. 1. They had provided toiletries which included just a soap. I would suggest to provide the shampoo at least. On a beach vacation, you need shampoo and conditioner and generally those are provided in all standard hotels. 2. Being set in a tropical garden, there are lot of insects and lizards. I understand that it's part of the ecosystem there but it would be better if those can kept out of the room at least. Probably installing a mesh cover on window and doors can help. 3. I would have preferred to have some replenishment for the tea/coffee maker. We had stayed in self catering hotels earlier and tea bags, coffee pouches with milk powder and sugar were always provided. We expected the same here but it was not. Miette provided me with tea bags when I asked for it though it's not something they provide. Having those will help as everyone does not self cater there.

From the moment you step into the property you are welcomed with a friendly smile, our Hosts Patrick and Miette provided the most friendly and comfy accommodation in this corner of paradise on Praslin. The rooms are well fitted out, all you need to self cater, but why do that when you have an excellent restaurant at your doorstep. The Capricorn provided an excellent range of tastes for even the fussiest of mouths. We had Breakfast in the Gazebo each morning, a great start to the day. The beach setup has plenty of relaxation lounges in the sun or pick a shady spot and the private beach is safe for a good swim and to watch the evening sunset. Highly recommend this sort after location. Be sure to book early.
