We spent 2 weeks here in August 2018. It is a small hotel, but still good quality. It is located right near the road with a supermarket next to it. There are many taverns, markets and car rentals. Although the road is in the back of the hotel, it is a calm place as the hotel front is beach facing. The room was small but fine, standard, with refrigerator, TV, aircondition, a very small bathroom with shower. No problem, clean and we just slept there. There was also balcony and outside sitting (2 chairs and small table). The lobby is small with free wifi. Main restaurant also not too big but there was always place to seat. Food...good, there were some issues with coffeemaker but the staff solved it quickly. There was always good food, also Greek cousine. However, the German clients were preferred by some of the waiting staff. Pool....right next to the restaurant and bar, there is 1 pool for swimmers and smaller one for small kids. Sunbeds and umbrellas are around the pools. Beach....in front of the hotel with paid umbrellas and sunbeds. Beach is sandy, somewhere with small pebbles. It is clean and very long, good place for walking. There were waves often not suitable for small kids but 20-30m from the shoreline it was fine. In that distance, the water isn't deep so children also can swim safely. There are bigger rocks on the bottom in some places, so be careful. I would like to thanks to receptionist Maria M. as she was very kind and helped with a better room.

If you are planning to travel, it's best choice for you. Near the sea. In the center of the city. There are plenty of souvenir and food shops near, car rental. Personal are very friendly. Beautiful garden

Nice and close to the beach. However food was almost always the same and I'm afraid frying was sometimes made on old fat. But people were friendly, and the most joyful person from the whole hotel staff was Manolis. All the best, Manolis!

I'm writing this review as I'm sitting next to the hotel pool. We stayed here as a family and gladly recommend this hotel to other families. The staff are excellent and friendly. The Greek people genuinely love children. Multiple times at the hotel (and around Crete) I have seen the Greek people act fondly and caringly to children. The dinners are excellent. There is a consistent range of delicious salads and cheeses, with a daily rotation of meat dishes. There's always something for children to eat. We've been staying here for two weeks and the main dishes have not repeated. I believe vegetarians, meat eaters and those avoiding gluten will be very happy. There is an excellent value shop attached to the hotel and prices are highly competitive to the nearby markets. The bus stop to Rethymon is right next to the hotel. The localisation is also excellent with hotel bar and pool leading onto the beach. There a few nice bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. The hotel bar is also excellent with a beautiful view. The rooms are modest and clean. Our room was equipped with a fridge with a small freezer compartment. This was fantastic for keeping drinking water ice-cold. Powerful showers. Rooms cleaned professionally, daily. We will be sad to leave on Sunday.

For our first time at Crete we wanted something practical (simple room, near to beach, situated in a small city at least so we can have a walk at night) and we have found Kathrin Beach Hotel for a really great price. Before our stay I was mistrustful because the ratings were simply too high and hotel had too many recommendations for that price :) but right after, I can say it fulfilled our expectations, room was clean, had an AC, the hotel was situated at a great spot at beach with sand and little rocks and the possibility to rent a parasol and two loungers set. Personnel was very friendly, especially the receptionist Christina (I hope I remembered the name correctly). As we stayed for 1 week only, breakfast menu was bearable but we would appreciate more vegetables and a bit of change sometimes, same for dinner menu (but the vegetables offer here was much much better). Once again, the price was pretty low so we didn't expect anything special and I think it is a mistake if someone did so and was disappointed. You can go to restaurants in town for greek cuisine and expect gourmet experiences. Wifi is available for free only at the reception and you can buy the 1 day or 1 week access for the wifi in the room - I consider it a bit old-fashioned to pay for the wifi, but the price is not that high so we paid for it on the rainy days. Our room was at the ground floor with the balcony view directly at the but we get used to it very quickly, anyhow we did not spend a lot of time in the room. On our last day, even though we needed to leave the room at 11AM and our flight was at 11PM, we spent the whole day at beach and then at the pool and they left us to take the shower and change at the special room which was very useful considering we had nowhere to go till the flight.
