Avoid. Not as advertised. Drinks quality is appalling. No atmosphere at all in the hotel. Food is average. Room was advertised as a junior suite sea view but boy it’s so old fashioned and poorly furnished. Staff are ok - just not trained in bar duties. Each cocktail we have tried is vile. Sticking to water or beer. Wish we had chosen another hotel. Still got 4 days to go ……..

Dear member Ails36, Thank you for choosing Creta Star Hotel and for taking the time to publish your review. Every year by implementing upgrade projects and thorough cleaning, we strive to offer our guests the comfort they expect. Regarding the quality of our drinks, we kindly inform you that all necessary precautions are kept and an external cooperator regularly takes samples, always in accordance with HACCP / ISO 22000 systems, which we keep in our hotels and we are controlled by the worldwide known TÜV NORTH group. We would like to mention also that our hotel offers a wide variety of a 14 days menu with many different theme nights as Greek, fish nights, Italian, Asian etc As far as the rooms are concerned, it is important to be referred that all the previous years partial renovation was made and in our plans is to renovate all the rooms. The big number of repeated guests from different countries proves the excellent quality of service, location and culinary delights. Thank you again for your visit. We will be glad to see you again among our guests, on your next visit to Crete. With our best regards, AegeanStar Hotels Guest Relations Department

Pros. Clean. Spacious room. Pretty gardens. Amazing sea view from room on 6th floor. Food is good. The lamb was amazing. Massuese was excellent in the spa. Well worth a visit. Right on the beach but was stony. Free WiFi. Shops include supermarket, jeweller and clothes shop. Pool room. 2 restaurants. Main buffet restaurant and an Italian set meal restaurant on the beach. Lovely food. You are Limited to a few bookings. A few very friendly staff. Antonio was brilliant 👏 Cons. Evening entertainment is in-house apart from one Greek night. This made the evenings boring. Location isn't great, 10 minutes drive to Rethymon. No English guests, mainly German TV only has an English news channel, plenty of German channels. You're only given a small paper cup during the day which holds a quarter of a pint. You keep having to go to top up. Hot food usually included pork but a lot of variety. The hotel has so much more potential for entertainment. Even music in the daytime was tame. Activities very sparce. No beach games. No excursions. There is a place across the road to book excursions.

Dear Guest, Thank you for choosing our Creta Star Hotel for your vacations. Also, we would like to mention that our hotel is multinational. Each week, the percentages of all nationalities are different, but first come the guests from Europe. We do not make discrimination among our guests, a factor which is proven by the extremely high percentage of repeated guests from different countries, which indicates the excellent quality of service, location and culinary delights. Bathroom was really grubby. Lime scale and dirt all over shower. Dirt and hair behind bathroom never removed despite complaints. Fittings in room thick with dust. Room not as advertised. Chairs in main bar very grubby tables in pool bar had loads of cobwebs. Could only get coffee in day at pool bar in polystyrene cups, no service at outside tables. Big brass lamps in foyer filthy. Staff very indifferent. On our floor man cleaning rooms always sprawled in chair by lifts talking on phone. Could go on. Even a one star hotel should be clean and this is a four star. Have travelled a lot and this was the worst hotel ever stayed in. One good note, grounds were well kept. Sorry to have to complain but it should our holiday.

Dear member giliang2021, Thank you for choosing our Creta Star Hotel for your vacation. We would like to inform you that this winter, like all previous years, renovations took place. We renovated 150 rooms of various categories and bathrooms in 2018 and in 2019 too. In all brochures, there is a precise description and we never had an issue! We kindly inform you that due to health & safety standards ISO 22000/HACCP that we keep in our property for many years, we are not allowed to use glass in our public areas. We are controlled by the world renowned TÜV NORD Group. We would like to point out that we have tried to use polycarbonate cups for many uses, but unfortunately, we found them in the trash. Coffee is served since 05.30 am till late in the afternoon. The large number of repeat guests from different countries proves the excellent service quality, the location and the culinary delights. Best regards Guest Relations Department

The entrance, reception and gardens to this hotel are lovely but the first room we saw was down a few dark stairs it was small and had a shared balcony we did not accept it, the rooms were very dull and drab, wood chip on the walls and bathrooms were dated. The corridors were dark and hot, there were air conditioners all around but did not see them switched on once. 90% non British occupancy vast majority of which seemed to smoke even in some eating areas, being non smokers it was hard to escape it. Out of 2 weeks we could only swim in the sea once comfortably as it was so rough make no mistake the beach is not user friendly lots of large rocks . This hotel has rules like dress codes but they do not stick to any of them, people in eating areas in swimwear. The evening entertainment team were a lot like watching Crackerjack but they tried hard. The search for sunbeds started about 7 am, if you had not claimed them by 8 am you had no chance. This hotel is very remote. The staff were good as was the food but not 4 star, we would not return to this hotel.

Dear Guest PhilipP1337 , Thank you for choosing our Creta Star Hotel for your vacation. We would like to mention that our hotel is multinational. Each week, the percentages of all nationalities are different, but first come the guests from Europe. We do not make discrimination among our guests, a factor which is proven by the extremely high percentage of repeated guests from different countries, which proves the excellent quality of service from our staff. The town of Rethymno is 12 km away. The bus runs every hour until late at night and the bus stop is exactly in front of our hotel. In addition, the nearest small town is at a distance of 6 km, is named Platanias where guests have the opportunity to find discos, bars, many taverns and also shops of all kinds. Also, around our hotel and in a distance of 700m are located a few taverns, two bars and super markets. Heraklion is 65 km far. We kindly inform you that we do not have rooms at the basement and the corridors are pretty wide! In all brochures is mentioned that the Air-Conditioning is in function from 15/6-15/9!! Also, we would like to inform you that, like all previous years, this winter renovation works took place . We renovated 150 rooms of various categories and bathrooms in 2018 and in 2019 too. Smoking is not allowed in all internal areas of the hotel, but during lunch which is served at the snack bar, meaning outside, can happen! Our beach is a paradise for sea turtles Karetta Karetta and has a length of 400m and every year it was awarded the blue flag, indicating that the natural beach meets all the regulations. In the sea there are parts with rocks, but also sandy parts. There is good access to the sandy beach and the sea. Regarding the swimming in the sea, we cannot do anything, it depends on the weather conditions. Sometimes the weather happens to be windy, but you also enjoyed nice days. We would like to point out that all tour operators have already been informed about the ban on reserving loungers and parasols. We try our best to keep it. Due to Covid-19 protocols, we should keep a certain distance between the umbrellas so that it is impossible to offer more! Our goal is to keep the dress code. As soon as we realize that a guest has not kept it, we inform them accordingly to change their clothes. On arrival it can happen that guests do not have pants, that is the reason that we are more flexible only for the first day. Our kitchen employees, our restaurant team, our animation team and not only, are trying their best and they work very hard under the Covid-19 protocols. So, the restrictions at the animation program are high! Thank you again for your visit. We will be glad to see you again among our guests, on your next visit to Crete. With our best regards, Guest Relations Department

It was was my third time in Creta Star hotel, so of course my rating is 5/5 stars. I should be there in June 2020 but due to epidemiologic situation I had to rebook it for September. My biggest concern was how the kitchen staff will work under completely new situation - limited guest number in a dining area and lack of self service. I remembered that hotel has themed-dinners and now I was wondering if there will be enough food options (like vegetarian). There was no need to worry, I never waited in queue longer than about 3 minutes! First you have to collect your plate and Fotini and Cristal (if I remember correctly name) done great job in managing hungry guests! Then you have to choose what you want to eat, but you can't touch it yourself, but no worries - the wonderful team of Maria, Maria, Eleni, Sofia and all staff that names I forgot to ask help you and quickly gives you what you want. And there's no rush, you can walk around and decide but still the other hungry guests are not watching you like they want to kill you because it all goes so perfectly quick! Ladies you are doing your job great! And I had opportunity to practice my Greek so I ordered almost all the food in Greek and wonderful team told me new words and even recipes. Also big thank you goes to Manolis - waiter in the non-smoking pool area for a great service and delivering spoon to eat a dessert before I even asked :D If you are concerned about disinfection in dining areas, please don't be. All the hotel staff disinfect all tables and chairs and even sunbeds! The rooms are cleaned every second day. About sunbeds, Creta Royal is closed but you can use it's garden and pool, so there's no super terrible crowd in the hotel garden. I spent wonderful two weeks there and I would like to thank all the hotel staff for their hard work! And yeah, there's hotel goose that walks around beach and Creta Royal garden :) Dear manager Mr Kostas, I would be grateful if you print this review and give a copy to the mentioned personel as my megálo efcharistó for the outstanding hospitality.

Pros. Sea views in most rooms. Adult only Hotel. Room is clean and big space. Enough space by the beach. Beautiful garden. Corns. Location out of town (but we hire a car so not a problem for us) Old, out date hotel. Old facilities. No safety box in the room. You can rent weekly at the reception. Staff didn't seem friendly, except one or two at the breakfast area. All Inclusive is not what we are looking for however we pick this hotel because of the beach space and adult only hotel. We managed to book the room with Breakfast here . I have to say during our stay we felt uncomfortable most of the time when we have to contact with hotel staff. Staff didn't seem friendly, except one or two at the breakfast area. They seems very aggressive towards us plus no communication in this hotel whatsoever. For example. 1.Up on arrival we got a room upgrade which is nice thank you. However, there was no information from the reception regarding the hotel or service in the hotel. The hotel provides 2 bottles of the water up on arrival only the rest of stay you have to buy. When we asked for more water the man at the reception said NO and reply to Must go out and buy or go to Tervana on the beach. When we went to Tervana on the beach asking for a bottle of water a lady at the bar all most shout you have to pay. Yes we know just give a water I was nearly faint coz of the heat but what they worried is to make sure we have to pay. 2.The Tervana on the beach not open every night. One night we back from sight seeing a bit late so we think its good idea to grab something at the restaurant instead of going out . when we arrive a man with blue tie ask if we have a reservation or not when we said no, he shouted at us no reservation no table go to talk to reception and walk away left us strand with all the guest look at us .Terrible feeling!! So we went back to reception at that time they informed us this restaurant not open every day and we have to make reservation via reception but we are not all inclusive guest so we have to pay EUR40pp again we were never been in form about this info. The lady at reception made a phone call to the restaurant and said we can go and pay direct to them. We never go back as we don’t want to face that man again. 3.Towels exchange 10am to 17pm first day on the beach we try to change towels at 16:50pm nobody at the beach. We try to ask the staff at the pool believe me or not when he see me walk to him he turn himself and walk away. We took towels back and speak to reception and explain we will leave the hotel at 8 am in the morning at the end housekeeping brought us new towels. At breakfast some staff split water on our table (happened twice during our stay) they never say sorry or come back to clean for us. 4.In room facilities everything is old from the key room to A/C , the telephone in room has no information or directory if you need to contact staff what number you should dial. The room has plenty drawers however some of them can’t even open. The room wall has no sound proof you can here people talking in the corridor or people walking the room above you. We deeply in love with Crete and others Greek islands and will go back but not a hotel for us to return too. the hotel is totally set up for German guests.

Dear Mrs. Suphannee A, Thank you for choosing our Creta Star Hotel for your vacation. We would like to inform you that this winter, like all previous years, renovations took place. We renovated 150 rooms of various categories and bathrooms in 2018 and in 2019 too. In all brochures is mentioned that the safety box is located at the reception with charge. In all brochures is mentioned that only upon arrival there are two bottles of water in the room and also various departments of the hotel are open until midnight, where guests can direct themselves if they need something (ex. a glass of water and many others). Also, our mini market provides bottled water in very reasonable prices. Additionally, in all brochures is mentioned that the Tavern is open three times a week and a reservation is required at the reception, due to the limited capacity! Always the bed & breakfast guests pay if they wish to consume more than their breakfast! The specific dinner is free for the All Inclusive guests. Due to the Covid-19 protocols directories are not allowed in rooms, so we provide you all the information in a scanned form-QR code in your room, it is located under your mirror! We would also like to mention that our hotel is multinational. Every week the percentages of all nationalities are different. We do not discriminate among guests, a factor proven by the large number of repeat guests from different countries. The city of Rethymno is 12 km away. The bus runs every half hour until late at night and the bus stop is right in front of our hotel. In addition, at a distance of 6 km the nearest small town is called Platanias, where guests have the opportunity to find discos, bars, many taverns and also shops of all kinds. There are also a few taverns, two bars and supermarkets around our hotel and at a distance of 700 m. The large number of repeat guests from different countries proves the excellent service quality, the location and the culinary delights. We work to ensure that our guests want for nothing. We wish you all the best, but please before booking a hotel you should be informed about the hotels facilities and offers. Best regards Guest Relations Department

I spent a week in this hotel with my wife-to-be in August 2020. Despite the current pandemic limitation, we felt extremely safe and comfortable. The staff and hotel management do their best in order to protect the health of the guests. Hygienic standards were top level. We've got standard double room on 3rd floor with garden view. The room was perfectly clean, spacious and functional. Bed was comfy, bathroom as well. If you don't mind paying a bit more, I'd go for a see view, too. Buffet was flawless. Broad variety of meals, everything always delicious. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. We liked the guys in restaurant, behind the bars, animmation team - everybody made us feel like home. Since the hotel is Adults only, we enjoyed perfectly relaxing time. The only thing we did not like that much was the sea - but that's hardly the hotel to be blamed for. There was very often a red flag (swimming in the sea forbidden) due to the strong winds. So if you plan to swim a lot, you might be negatively surprised. Nevertheless, the water was warm and clean. I recommend wearing water shoes when entering the sea, as there are stones and rockes in the water. We rented a car for 2 days and visited the famous beaches - Balos, Elafonisi, Falasarna - that's something I would totally recommend. Felt like in paradise. All in all, we loved everything about the hotel and I would definitely recommend it to everybody looking for relaxing holiday in a nice hotel with excellent services. Hoping to come there again soon!
