We stayed here for a week in August with our 15 month old little boy and friends. The hotel is situated around 10 minute walk away from the local town square which includes bars and restaurants. There are a handful of tavernas, all serving reasonably priced and delicious food. There are around three bars, with the price of a beer being €4. There is a lovely park on the way to the square, open in the morning and through the evening. The beach didn’t look very practical for a young family, however there were a few sun beds available.
The hotel room was basic but extremely clean. We were in a family room. We chose to pay the fee for the air con and glad we did. The room was lovely and cool very quickly in the evenings. Towels and linen were changed once during our stay. Bins were emptied daily. The bed was slightly firm, and if anything a new mattress probably wouldn’t go a miss.
Breakfast was a small array of continental items, such as cereal, Greek yoghurt, pastries, cake and bread. The toaster was fantastic and there was enough choice for a small breakfast.
Evening meal on Half Board was exceptional. The salads were fresh, the meat was tender and delicious and if there is something you aren’t keen on, Thelka will kindly swap it for you. Faultless!
The pool bar served fantastic lunch time food, all very reasonably priced (€6 for a club sandwich and fresh chips, €7 for a pizza, €3 for an omelette).
The pool is lovely, and there were plenty of sun beds available throughout our stay. The pool is cleaned every morning. There seems to be quite a build up of flies in the pool, however this never bothered us or the young children.
All of the staff here are tremendous. Thelka, the gentleman behind the bar, the cleaners, all work extremely hard and nothing is too much trouble. This is very reassuring when travelling with a young baby!
This hotel is very suitable for a range of people, but definitely suited us as a small family looking for a quaint and relaxing holiday. I would recommended this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful and relaxing holiday in Greece.

We returned yesterday (2.7.23) after the most wonderful relaxing week at Pela Hotel. From the moment we walked through the door we felt like family. Thekla is the most amazing, hard working host you could ever wish for. She knows everyone by name and treats everyone the same, and does everything in her power to make sure your holiday is a memorable one.
Hotel: yes rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable, every room has a balcony. There's enough storage and a fridge. It is cleaned every day by lovely staff. The restaurant area has indoor and outdoor seating and a bar. The outdoor pool bar is just lovely offering shade from the blistering sun. There is a good choice for breakfast, from pastries, yogurt, fruit to eggs, sausage and beans. The restaurant has a good choice of food, from lunch time snacks to full evening meals. There is a special board which you can book for your evening meal, starter, main, salad and dessert for 14 euros. All the food we ate there, and we ate there a lot, was incredible and good size portions, you will never go hungry at Pela Hotel.
The pool is cleaned and water checked every day and is needed to cool off during a lazy day in the sun. Sunbeds are comfortable, hard to come by some days, but people always come and go and don't leave their towels on the sunbeds when they leave, so someone else can make use of them.
Thekla takes in stray cats and dogs and looks after them, there are a lot at the hotel, but they are all so well trained and will never jump up onto your table while you are eating, they may look at you with sad eyes, but will not bother you.
Everyone who stays at Pela is so friendly and welcoming, everyone talks to everyone else, learning tips from those who have been coming for years to finding new friends.
Skala Kallonis: is about a 10min walk into the loveliest of places, well stocked shops, couple of gift shops too, and plenty of places to choose from to eat at. Sunbeds are so close the beautiful sea, and are free so long as you buy a drink at the bar of your choosing. Caprice was our favourite closely followed by Sampo. Choice of food is amazing, and the quality cannot be faulted. Staff at all establishments are so lovely and friendly and not at all pushy. The harbour is a beautiful little harbour and so nice to sit in Sugar Bay and enjoy one of their amazing cocktails, watching the boats come in and out. I can't really explain why, but this place feels like home and you never want to leave.
I can understand why people come back to Pela and Skala Kallonis year after year, and we cannot wait to return.

We have just returned from our 8th visit to the Pela Hotel and it is just as good as our first visit in 2014, we love it. The hotel is very traditional, like staying in someones home. The reception and lounge area contains old family hairlooms and traditional furniture. The breakfast room has a few indoor tables but most people sit out on the terrace and enjoy the buffet breakfast which contains different breads, yoghurt, jams, honey, cheese, cold meats, scrambled and boiled eggs etc., all you need. The pool bar services an extensive range of lunches and there is an a la carte menu for lunches and dinner. Each evening they serve a traditional 3 course greek menu for €14. We book bed and breakfast then we can enjoy the excellent tavernas in the village, but do eat in sometimes as the food is very good indeed. During our 10 night stay we ate in 3 nights, but had lunch most days. The rooms are very basic but are clean and comfortable. Bed linen and towels were changed 4 times during our stay. There is no cleaning etc. on a Sunday. We prefer the oldest rooms in the main hotel building, there are 3 other blocks that have been built as the hotel has expanded, making about 40 rooms in all. I like to go down for a swim at 8am each morning, rarely are there more than a few sunbeds reserved, i don’t believe anybody gets up at 6 am to reserve them. I have attached a photo taken at 8.10 am on Wednesday 19th July and you will see there are only a couple of sunbeds reserved. I have never had my sleep disturbed by barking dogs but i did hear that some people staying in a room by the boatyard were disturbed one night, which upset Thekla. The pool bar and terrace is a great place to enjoy drinks and chat to people, both first timers and others we have met over the years. Nothing is too much trouble for Thekla, who runs the hotel with her father, she goes far and beyond to ensure everybody has a great stay and knows everybody’s first names before they even arrive at the hotel. She will do everything in her power to see everybody has the best holiday and will also book you a taxi, car hire, bike hire, a boat trip anything you want. She is on duty from 7 in the morning until the last guest goes to bed, with just a few hours break in the afternoon. Dion helps out in the bar from lunchtime until late at night. This is certainly the friendliest hotel i have ever stayed in and we will be returning for a 9th time next year

Having read previous reviews about the Pela we were looking forward to our stay. The hotel clearly has a very loyal clientele some of whom return several times a year. Unfortunately we won't be joining them.
As most reviews say this is a basic 2 star hotel, which we expected having holidayed a lot in Greece, but we did experience some problems which included being unable to close the door to the room on arrival (there was a knack to closing it) , a spring sticking out of the mattress requiring a new mattress and the air conditioning unit leaking water outside of the room door making it very slippery. However, the biggest problem was the dogs barking at all hours. Our room was adjacent to the car park area where the hotel dogs seemed to sleep, At 4am every morning they would start barking. There's a disused yard across the road with 3 guard dogs so they then started as well. Fine if you wanted an early morning alarm call!
The room was functional with decent storage space, a good fridge and great air conditioning which cost 59 Euro's for the week and was much needed. Housekeeping will also provide a small kettle if required. Towels will be changed if you leave them on the floor, bedding was changed once in the week and the rooms serviced daily.
We booked half board and although the food at the hotel is home cooked and very good, the half board menu consists of a set 3 course meal advertised each morning. Unfortunately, we are not big meat eaters and most of the main courses were meat based, so had to ask if we could eat off the lunch menu which is a bit limited. After a few days we decided to walk into the village and eat at the lovely restaurants by the sea in the evening instead.
The pool area is well maintained and cleaned daily. Initially there were insufficient sun beds resulting in towels being put out at 6am. Half way through the week more beds arrived which eased the situation.
Location wise the hotel is on a quiet rural road with the sea at the end of it. The beach isn't the best and few people seemed to use it, although there are a few sunbeds that can be hired from a man with a van. The village is about a 10 - 15 minute walk along a straight quiet road with a lovely selection of restaurants, 2 supermarkets and a couple of gift shops. You can watch the fishermen bring in the sardines early morning along with the local cats - that was a good experience.
The staff do work hard and are very obliging but we didn't experience the "being treated like family" that some people clearly did, but having said that we do tend to keep ourselves to ourselves and not being drinkers didn't sit in the bar area much. Taxi's can be booked at reception should you wish to travel around the island. We took a day trip to Petra and Molivos which was very enjoyable.
Overall, we loved Skala Kalloni but wouldn't choose to stay at the Pela again.

We stayed for 1 week end May/beginning June and this 2 star hotel was ideal. It is located in a very quiet area and about 800 steps walk the sea and a further 10-15 mins stroll into the village.

We were greeted off the coach by owner Thekla, she welcomed us and is very friendly. The hotel is very traditionally Greek. The hotel rooms are very basic but have everything you need. The furniture is old greek wooden style. Shower curtain and shower hose hooks on the wall, always plenty of hot water. The rooms are clean, the beds are very comfortable. Fridge & hairdryer in rooms. I took my own travel kettle. Balcony has table & 2 chairs.

We didn't need to buy aircon as temperature was in the mid to high 20's with a nice breeze, no problems sleeping as evenings were cooler and needed a cardigan/jacket when walking to village. However, 2nd part of the week, there was a mini heatwave and it got HOT! with warm evenings.

Hotel breakfast was good, everything you need to start your day. Fresh bread, cake, pastry, boiled eggs, scrambled egg, beans, sausages, yogurt, honey, jam, marmalade, ham, cheese, feta, olives, tomatoes, juices, tea and really nice coffee machine.

The pool - always sunbeds available, good for swimming lengths. Pool bar guy, Dion very friendly. We had lunch a few times and it was very nice, can recommend the greek salad to share. Good prices too.

You can have an evening meal in hotel and some guests were half board and said the evening meals were very good.

We had our evening meals in the village, there were about 7 restaurants to choose from, some were closed and not yet open. Every meal we had was just lovely, not a bad meal anywhere. Food prices are roughly the same in every restaurant. Expect to pay between 9 -12 euros for main course. Beer was 4 euros wine 3 euros.

Village has an old bakery and you must try their feta & spinach pies, they're delicious! Its a very quiet village, just a couple of nice bars, couple of supermarkets and 1 gift shop. It was a bit of a shock to find it so quiet, but we soon got used to sitting in the square with a drink, people watching.

This was our first visit to Lesbos and plan to return and would definitely stay at the Pela Hotel.

We have just returned from another very successful holiday at The Pela, our 10th visit in the last 12 years. The hotel is a Greek 2 star so no frills, rooms are basic but all have a bathroom with shower and a fridge, air conditioning is available at an extra charge. I would suggest people book bed and breakfast here. The hotel provides a buffet breakfast with a good selection available. The poolside bar has an extensive menu and the food is excellent. In the evening the terrace provides an ideal place to enjoy a meal. Each evening a traditional 4 course Greek meal is available for Euro 14 or you can choose a la carte. We ate in 4 or 5 evenings during our 2 week stay and on other nights strolled into the village to enjoy one of the good selection of traditional tavernas. Thekla, her dad and Dion go overboard to welcome you and ensure that you have the best holiday ever at this very friendly hotel whether you are a first time visitor or one of the many, many regulars that return year after year, nothing is too much trouble. Thekla is an animal lover and is known for rescuing abandoned and ill treated cats which are returned to health and then sent usually to Holland for adoption, so yes there are cats around, but they are not a problem. Skala Kallonis as a resort has worked hard over the years to eradicate the problem of stray cats and dogs that plague a lot of Greek resorts and their efforts are certainly paying off. We will certainly return to The Pela again next year, it is like returning home, it is the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed in, but please remember if visiting for the first time it is a traditional Greek family run basic hotel and it is certainly not a Hilton or Sheraton

On my 6th or 7th visit right now, and having read the review from the illiterate person who moved hotels, felt the need to add my ten pen'orth! I first came here in August 2014 as a late deal. Relatively cheap at the time when there was such a thing. I realised this was a place I could come on my own and feel safe, which I did for several years. I have now been twice with a friend who agrees with me about how wonderful it is, for a lovely, do as little as you like holiday! We have lunch, staying poolside, and eat in or out in the evening, depending on the evening special. Thekla DOES NOT prioritise returning guests; we are all friends that she greets as such! She and the staff do everything they can, from the cook to maids, to Dion. Like much of the hospitality industry, she has struggled to find staff to help out. Yes, the bedrooms and bathrooms are basic, but what else do you need on this type of holiday?? Join the ranks of Thekla's extended family!!

This was our first time at the pela and when we arrived,we were made to feel welcome not just by the staff but everyone there . The whole of the holiday you felt like you where part of a big family with Thelka as the mum ,she went above and beyond with everything in making your holiday a special occasion and Dion behind the bar he was the same too...we were half board. Breakfast was always good and you had a good choice, evening meal was always something different and you always got plenty and if you didn't like what was on the menu Thelka would accommodate you and make something different. The hotel is clean and tidy rooms are a bit dated but are of good standard for Greece. Balconies are of good size bathrooms are typically greek. But for overall this is a hotel we would go back to a nice relaxing place with plenty of charm and character thank you everyone for making in a memorable holiday. 🏖🥰👌

Excellent stay at the Pela, rooms typically Greek with small bathroom but very comfortable and a great location with short walk into the village. Really good breakfast and if you want to eat in the evening then they have a daily dish or you can choose from their main menu. All the staff are friendly and nice. The owner Theckler(not sure if that is the correct spelling) does a lot of animal welfare so there are often dogs and cats around under her care. It’s an ideal location for birding on the island. We had a terrific two weeks there and cannot speak more highly of it.

Beautiful family run hotel. If you want to experience an authentic Greece with traditional cooked meals then this is the place for you. 3 course menu was on offer for 14 Euros, which is excellent value and traditionally cooked, service when you dine is impeccable, quick and efficient.
This is a two star rated hotel so as other reviews have stated, yes it's basic but exceptionally clean and staff are very helpful, nothing is to much trouble. Beds are also comfortable, air conditioning is an extra cost per day, but in my eyes, worth it for a comfortable night's sleep.
Swimming pool is kept immaculate for guests to enjoy. Staff work very hard and work long hours to ensure you have a nice holiday. My only honest criticism is,, returning guests are essential for the hotel which is totally understandable, but seem to dominate the environment.

The rooms do not have safety boxes, but there are free safes available behind reception. Air conditioning is about €7 per day. The tourist tax is next to nothing, only a few Euros for two weeks
