We are Brazilians living abroad for more than 5 years. Coming to our country and finally managing to visit one of the most beautiful areas of it was per se already amazing, but choosing the Araras Eco Lodge was even better. It is comfortable (hammock was so nice!) but yet rustic and authentic as a Pantanal farm house. We really enjoyed the freem time and amazing pool and capirinhas (with our crocodile friends watching us). We had a great time with the guide and looking for the animals and contemplating the flora. You will definitely see lots of different animals in the lodge region also (pantanal dears, blue parrots, tuiuius, monkeys, ant-eaters, crocodiles and some other animals I don't know the name in English!) Food was so comforting and tasty (quite typical Brazilian home food) that brought us back to childhood memories! The owner was always there making sure we had everything we wanted (and even changed the menu once for us) :) PS: If you are really into seeing a jaguar (onça pintada), you should discuss having a (rather long) tour to Porto Jofre where they are mostly located. Bruno & Carolina…
Araras is a shining example of how ecotourism should be done. Animals are around day and night - I saw more animals in 3 days in Pantanal than I did in over a week at the Amazon. The parrots are a hoot. The lodge itself is very comfortable. The rooms and beds are comfy. They have a new pool that is amazing. The meals are fresh and tasty, made with local ingredients. There's also trails around the huge reserve and there's an activity morning, afternoon, and evening. So much to do, you will greatly enjoy your time. I went in Dec 2020 and they were following all covid protocols, so it was quite safe.
I had the luck to stay in Araras lodge in October 2020. What Andre & Akhila have developed there is something special. Situated right in the middle of an impressive nature they have developed a lodge with a strong personal note and a high level of comfort, which is quite nice when temperatures are well above 40 degrees. The wildlife around is amazing. Anthough it was very dry (still) we managed to see a good number of species. Worthwhile mentioning are the night safaris - we even managed to see a Puma! Last but not least - do not miss out a horse ride. Pantanal and horses belong together - you understand this a bit when riding out. I really enjoyed. Whoever is contemplating a Pantanal trip - the Araras lodge should be on your list. Many thanks to all of you - in particular to my guide, Chaco!…
This lodge is environmental friendly as its name states. No lodging frills, but guests really have opportunities for wildlife viewing day and night. Monkeys in trees just outside our door! Many birds, especially Rea, roaming the lodge grounds. Staff and guides super friendly and offer enough activities to keep guests as busy as they wish. Night "safari" excursions highly recommended. Multi-day stay here a must.
Araras knows what it is doing when it comes to wildlife viewing. There are a number of opportunities, boat, canoe, walking, which I think is the best for birds, vehicle, morning, evening, night and very early as well as canopy towers. They also have a quite diverse range of fauna. The staff is warm and the facilities nice and the food local and wonderful.
