This hotel was very worn. The door between the rooms was splintering. The carpet dirty. So not impressive. Any good in this experience? The bed was comfortable providing a good nights sleep. The water pressure in the shower was very good and drained quickly. Staff was friendly. Sorry to say I would not return.

We stayed two nights at this resort as part of a cruise and tour package with Holland America (Carnival/Holland America/Princess owns the resort). Our room was a suite, with a bedroom separate from the front living room. The room was spacious, and equipped with zone heating (i.e., you can have different temperatures in different rooms). We were in building S, which is a 5-10 minute walk to the nearest eating, drinking, and entertainment area (Karstens). The walk to the main lodge is pretty much all uphill, and depending on your level of fitness can take another 10 minutes or longer. The site is nicely laid out, with a beautiful walking trail along the Nenana River. There is an amphitheater where a man with a great singing voice was playing guitar. There is also a gift/craft shop. We were the nights of 18 and 19 August, with exceptional weather. That said, the lows were around 28 F, and the highs in the 50s F. Food portions at Karstens are quite large, so bring an appetite. The food is very good! We only had cocktails at the Main Lodge, where there is a larger gift shop and the very helpful staff. From the Main Lodge it is a short and easy walk to other shopping and dining businesses, as well as the clinic.

Disappointing end to the land segment of our Holland America cruise with the way meals are charged to our accounts. Double charged today for someone elses meal. They take your credit cards away, take a provisional charge for an amount for a meal, then come back with another receipt for a charge which you then agree to add a service tip or not. The charge is then closed out against your account. This is all great apart from today, my account is charged twice picking up a charge from someone else. When you speak to Guest Services and also Restaurant supervisors, you are made to feel guilty and they blame your bank. Quite frankly the majority of staff in this place are rude and their customer service skills non existent.

Spent very little time outside our room because we arrived early evening on day one after a long day on a bus. We ordered in because of the arrival time. The next day we went on an eight hour Denali excursion. The second evening we didn't go out to eat because of the snacks and box lunch we had while touring Denali. Room was large, clean, the bed was firm and the building was quiet. Well kept grounds in a great setting. Third day we were on a train back to Anchorage.

A quick 2 night stay was part of our trip and the accommodations were amazing. We stayed in the JR Suites and found them to be very nice. We could walk to the square but the hill to get to the main lodge was too much; we caught the shuttle. Plenty to do, lots of food around and there gift shops everywhere.
