Visited here on my own for my first trip of this kind. Couldn't fault it - hotel and grounds lovely, food excellent, wine lovely and options for activities are fantastic - just wish I had more time! Rosie in fitness was excellent and reception staff (female) super friendly. Would recommend this for solo travel, couples or groups of friends, but despite being on my own, at no stage did I feel isolated or awkward. Looking to go back next year!
The whole set up was first rate and the people could not have been more helpful. As an adult only site and the extra mile given by all it was a super break. The a la carts menus make a really great difference to the buffet meals, although they were very nice and super choices given. Water sports team and especially the water ski team made sure that you had success. The two free rows allowed me to try something new and some people should be able to give their unused tows to others but that oils have just blocked the wh9le system up. Tennis team were very professional and made the whole thing fun. Jams was so helpful but the whole team were a pleasure to work with. Rosie in the fitness was a delightful trainer and just made the holiday exceptional. Thank you. It was a super break and so good let’s just hope they don’t bump up the prices esp cially after the Thomas Cook affair. Let’s hope Neilson listen!…
We are long standing Neilson fans and this was our second time to Buca. We arrived on a Thomas Cook flight, one of the last ones to fly. Neilson handled this well - it didn’t affect our holiday as we weren’t worried about how we were going to get home. The restaurant staff and the food are truly amazing. I really can’t understand any negative comments about the food in other reviews. We had a really pleasant and informative trip out to ‘the olive mill’ which we’d definitely recommend -a bit like a vineyard tour but for olives , you get to do the tastings and an authentic Greek meal is served. The cabanas and the pool were wonderful. Top marks for Rosie and the fitness classes. The rooms are kept spotless the only thing they could do with is a little more storage. Ours had no storage at all by the sink. Archie was always there with a smile and put on quiz nights and table tennis. We went over to Messini for entertainment - it is there if you want it. Suggest you get the Messini entertainments planner if you’re more social. We used the spa for treatments quite a lot and Tips for future travellers - we didn’t realise there was a sauna and steam room in there until the end of our two weeks which would’ve been good for aching muscles. I don’t think the spa staff want you to use it for some reason. Other guests said it had an ‘out of order ‘ sign put on it with no traction in getting maintenance to fix whatever the issue was. Another top tip is you can request a mattress topper - this wasn’t advertised and would have made our two week stay more comfortable. Lidl and my mart are within cycling distance (on way to airport) or return taxi is €25. Don’t forget to use your ‘one free bag of washing per week per room’ It really was very efficient Tennis coaches were really good, hard-working and organised however when 28 people turn up for black group the sessions are adapted to the amount of courts and coaches. There is always a massive spike in the amount of people wanting to do tennis once the schools return in September as both Buca and Messini use them and the adult %’s are high then. The only solution for these peak weeks is to build additional courts and employ additional coaches to accommodate the free sessions and the premium on the drills. Don’t get me wrong, the coaches did an amazing job and get 5 stars, they worked what they had to maximum advantage to try and please the majority. The sea was warmer than the pool but sometimes you needed a more ‘refreshing ‘ dip…
Travelled with my wife for a week break in mid September. The hotel location, services, activities and weather were all superb. We have been skiing with Neilson for several years and being keen cyclists we were persuaded by the staff on our last ski trip to try a beach club. We will be booking another again next year. Buca was our choice being the only adult only resort and with our children now adults we decided to take advantage having left them behind we didn’t want to encounter children. This increased the cost but the hotel definitely had a feeling of peace and luxury. Rooms were clean and spacious, the shower blind was unusual but although the cleaning staff always opened it if you like some privacy it could be pulled down. Pool was excellent as were the free afternoon cocktails and the free drinks in the room a nice touch. Breakfast and lunch were excellent buffets. Evening meal a la carte superb. On the non inclusive nights we made the excursions to Ancient Messini and Olive Mill. Both these were very informative and as they came with food and drink not outrageously priced. We cycled 6 days out of 7, 4 group rides and 2 on our own, a mix of mountain and road bikes. The road bikes might have benefitted from a greater gear range but manageable. We floated between pool and sea/beach for relaxing and sampled sailing, paddle boards, kayaks and wind surfing. The poolside wine tasting session is also a must do and free! Our only decision for next year is whether to stick to adult only and if 7 days is long enough. Every staff member we encountered was helpful and friendly. …
My partner and I spent 2 weeks at Buca Neilson in Sept 2019 and we loved our holiday. The minor things that could be improved upon (we felt) were - there was no welcome drink and the food was lame on arrival from Birmingham and slightly hungry at 3pm it didn't set a good expectation. There were minimal instructions re the alacarte and buffet nights and the fact you do need to book into the alacarte restaurant as it gets very busy - 7.30 - 8.00 were usually booked out very quickly. Once you got the hang of the system it was pretty smooth sailing! The activities and the amount of instruction as well as enthusiasm made us feel very welcome and special and ALL the instructors did Neilson proud. Overall this was a very expensive holiday with the drinks being beyond UK prices and the excursions - although excellent were very costly for what they were in our view - they should be discounted by at least 20% - 30% The area is great to explore but the random vicious dogs made us abit apprehensive at times.. The staff including Olga in reception and Fortini, Marcel and Zaira in the restaurant made our stay truly welcoming :-) - Thank you x - Also not to forget our brilliant cleaner ... We personally would have liked more cross over between Buca and Messini so we could get involved in water polo etc (we didn't know these were on as they weren't part of the Buca timetable - which was a shame).. and the entertainment at night needs to be improved - its non existent in both hotels in our view. Shows and greek dancing would be a start...…
