Placed on the Demarcated Region of Douro, in one of its hillsides, surround by litlle vineyards, this house was once main house of an wingrowing estate of the very special Port Wine. Dating from 1923, it was given special care inside (paintings and furnitures) and outside (mainly the gardens) by the farmer owner (Grandfather of the presentes ones). Now fully adapted, you can appreciate the marvellous lansdcape and enjoy wonderfull walks along one of the most beautiful portuguese regions. A natural beauty entirely at your disposal, where you can even listen the silence of nature.

We stayed with our 4yo daughter and a 4mo baby.
We couldn't have chosen a better place to end our week-long trip.
Outstanding scenery and views. Really nice swimming pool. Excellent service and food. Warm, professional team.
We were careful with setting our expectations, as we'd typically prefer a place with more modern interiors. However, the space simply works beautifully - the interiors are scenic, and the pictures don't fully make them justice.
Joana was the perfect host to what was, for us, the near-perfect stay.

We loved our stay at Casa d'Alem. Elisabete is a great hostess, the room was spacious and the view out to the vineyards was perfect for a visit to the Douro Valley. We stayed two nights and had delicious dinners both nights. And the prices are very reasonable. I'd definitely recommend having dinner since they were very good (as was the port and the wine) and there's no need to drive afterwards. I'd love to go back some day.

Our two days were too short! Our room was huge and had beautiful views over the valley. We really enjoyed our time by the pool, which we had to ourselves. When we arrived we weren't planning on dinner at the inn but when we saw the terrace we changed our minds. Dinner was fresh fish and it was very tasty. We had dinner the second night as well. Not gourmet fare but good and accompanied by local wine and port. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of fruit choices.
Casa d'Alem is not a high luxury vineyard inn but is welcoming and charming. There are only a handful of rooms. Joanne and Juliana made us feel like we were family for the short time we stayed.

The good points were the fabulous location and views across vineyards and little hamlets high up on the Douro valley side. The pool was lovely and the staff welcoming. However the place is old, albeit with fascinating antiques, and run down. Our room was large and had comfy beds but the bathroom smelled overpoweringly of drains despite being clean. It made the room smell. The food was good, plentiful, simple fare but I had concerns about hygiene. Some newly made preserves sat out all night uncovered in the annexe of the dining room with flies.

Lovely place to relax and enjoy the beautiful Douro surroundings. We had the pool to ourselves all day, which was a luxury! Lunch at the pool was great and the hostesses are super friendly. The room was gorgeous and the interior all dated from the wealthy days of Portugal. Beautiful. Only negative thing was the bed which was too short (for 1.80 + people like us) and the old mattress unpleasant due to the spirals that stab your back.

Casa d'Aem is an old mension house in the wineyards in Duoro Valley. The ladies that are running the place are very helpful. They prepare dinner that is served in the garden. We could get vegetarian food as well as dishes without glkuten. There are only 4 rooms so the whole place is more a family house than a hotel and so is the atmosphere. The pool is great and the surrounding is also unique. The perfect place to relax for some days in the middle of nature.

The drive of 6kms up the mountain is not for the faint hearted. But on arrival we were warmly welcomed by Maria and Clotilde. The house has some lovely antiques and looks out over the vines of the Duoro. The pool was a bonus to cool down on a hot day. The dinner was a highlight served in the garden 3 courses, wine and port for only 20 euros per person.

Well located House with great view on the vineyards. Warmfull and friendly welcome. The family room is really convenient for 2 adults and 2 children. The swimming pool has a fantastic view. We had dinner there, very good, typical portuguese food. We loved our staying: very calm, feels like home.

Don‘t exspect a regular hotel but a very homy place to get lost!
Attention: You should calculate minimum 3 days/nights to enjoy kindness of the loveable Joana, the fine breakfast, the tasty dinners, the relaxing pool park and the magical atmosphere of this special place on the top of a vinyard mountain!

This place has an amazing location with a very nice garden(a lot of flower senses and fruits trees). The place is perfectly located in the middle of vineyards. We really felt in peace chilling out in the garden. The house itself has antique fournitures. Although we usually like modern accommodation, the style here gave us a very positive feel, as if we were travelling back in time. The beds were very good and confy, the toilet and shower were renovated (very modern shower). When we first reached, we were welcomed by a very charming lady, that helped us book vineyard visit in a neighbourhood quinta. We choose to have diner here. The diner was nice, served in the garden, we had soup, oven cooked fish and fruits. The breakfast was really very nice, served in the antique dining room. The staff was very friendly and always paying attention to your needs.
We really had a nice surprise here. Everything looked better than we expected. We would definitely come back here.
