The rooms were clean. Though, there is no fridge, no electric kettle. Good shower. Safe costs extra. There's a pool, sauna costs extra. Breakfast is very sparse. Staff seemed bored or just not motivated to work. Maybe it's better during high season. Wouldn't go again.

Large comfortable, clean room and friendly staff. Breakfast was solid with a variety of hot foods and good breads and fruit. A nice bar area with good selection of liquors and coffee. The grounds were nice and expect very nice when in bloom. I rate this an excellent value.

Third time we stay at the Solar (although many years since our previous visit). This place is still great. Located in the quiet municipality of Boaventura, it offers a peaceful haven. Also, their restaurant is great. The staff is very kind and very efficient. Visitors can also enjoy a little museum and a nice swimming pool + whirlpool and sauna).

Excellent place, out of the city, to enjoy nature and silence. There's an indoor pool and a jacuzzi, and there's also a place outside if you want to sunbathe. The breakfast is competent (suggestion: improvement if it had a natural orange juice machine). There's a games area, with billiards (suggestion: improvement if it had a TV). The building is in good condition and has a series of agricultural, weaving and winemaking artefacts.

This hotel is beautiful located although the village is only good to do some hikingtrials. Room/bathroom is fine. Breakfast and diner is good. Friendly staff. The hotel has a beautiful garden as well where you can relax after a hike. They also have a small swimming pool (with sauna and hot tub) which is fine!

The best part of the stay was the swimming Pool and facilities. Disappointing your expecting your customers to pay for the sauna🤔 To have one staff member checking people in running the bar and running food unacceptable and not professional. WiFi useless☹️. The breakfast not great. Frozen bread or dried out bread and soft cornflakes not for me. The bacon was uncooked on one occasion and clearly not edible. We liked the quirky areas in the hotel and the games room. The mattress in our room very very hard and extremely uncomfortable 😣 When staying here make sure you have got a hire car as it’s very rural. Madeira has some 150 tunnels so when commuting you spend 25 without a view. I found most of the views on the island very samey. Access to most of the beaches not easy. I found after 3 days driving around and around bends and through endless tunnels I had seen and done all I needed to do and found it very stressful. If you decide to drive only do so if your an experienced driver as many roads are very tight on bends and concrete posts are in the road here and there ☹️ The staff at the hotel were clearly feeling the pace as one of the two was very miserable most of the time we were there. For us a very average experience. If using the safe make sure you have enough cash put aside as it’s cash only apparently.

A beautiful "palace" in Boaventura, surrounded by green mountains, green trees, green Nature and the sounds of fowls since the early hours...a perfect location to sleep quietly and to revigorate your mind. If you are travelling around Ponta Delgada - São Vicente - Seixal - São Jorge, this is the perfect place to sleep and to stop for a while...it's magic when you rase your head and see pure and simple life in front of you...such a quietness here...to come back many, many times! You feel at home with the treatment and the service. Amazing staff, very polite and they have the right information in the event you might need some, whether it is about places to visit, or even about places to buy delicious homemade cookies! Rooms are big with a large bathroom. The bed and the mattress are very comfy, it's really the right room you were dreaming of after a busy day in the Levadas or walking in the area...linen are very soft. You also have a variety of pillows. We stayed in the room 201, it's in the ground floor and it's pretty much what we wanted because it has a large ground floor balcony with an esplanade where you can relax at any time. No worries, there are no mosquitoes around...! There are some special rooms in this palace, such as the living room on the same level of our room, which is really amazing for staying at night, to have a drink or simply to prepare the activities for the day after. Lots of sofas and armchairs. In the middle of the palace, there is a place fully furnished with Madeiran ancient artfacts and you can see how locals used to make the wheat, the wine, the olive oil, the sugar cane brandy, and other products they produced with local cereals/fruits, also there is an embroidery loom where today Madeiran women still make carpets and other garments and clothes. Very interesting the way owners run this Rural Property. Breakfast is good, there are some local fruits choice, some choices of bread and pastry but in my opinion, they should provide at least one natural juice or make it on request. Tea choices, coffee and yoghurts. Should have raw sugar! Madeira is in fact a great sugar cane producer but...why doesn't hotels (except the 5 star hotels) offer this delicious product during breakfast or in the bars for the coffee or tea? The restaurant is very cosy and reminds the old houses...you can have the dinner outside in the garden and it is amazing as the views are breathtaking! Enjoy the meal because they cook amazingly! Menu is varied. I highly recommend this palace for a short or for a long stay!
