The Pousada do Alvito opened in 1993 after the recuperation of the fifteenth century castle. This building has been classified, since 1910, as a National Monument and an example of the best of the Portuguese architecture, which combines the architecture of the fortress and palatial residence and of Islamic, gothic and Manueline influences. The Alentejo village of Alvito is found around 30 km from Beja. A place that that both couples and families find inviting for relaxation in a splendid location surrounded by luxury, charm and finesse. Stepping out on the outdoor patio we can appreciate a view of the magical flickering lights from the Castle wall lights. Staying the night at the Alvito Castle is a great excuse for a romantic getaway and will delight all those who choose to do so.

Detailed Reviews
This is a very special place to come and visit. Beautiful property, stunning location and so very peaceful. Our bedroom was huge and comfortable, really did feel like we were staying in a castle! And what made our short stay even more delightful were the wonderful, kind, and attentive staff. Everyone we interacted with spoke amazing English and were so keen to make our stay perfect. Would definitely recommend.

It was the second time I visited this hostel, and I liked it again very much!
I find the perfect place to rest!!
The room is spacious, with nothing to point. I really like the pool. I'm just sorry that there is no longer always fresh aromatized water at the reception... In the first stay there was, and I confess I ⁇ it very much. Alvito is always hot in the summer, and it's nice to have something fresh to drink when you get there.
Breakfast is flawless, with everything you need.

+1
We went to dinner at the castle restaurant where we stayed. We were super well served by the local staff, super friendly. The dishes were great! We ordered a typical Alentejo region that was with pork. The entrance was flourish, delicious and also traditional from Portugal

Impressive and interesting building, somewhat sombre, centrally located in Alvito. Great courtyard. Plenty free parking available.
Inside dated. Standard room fairly small with only 1 chair. Bathroom tiny with little space to put your things.
Restaurant forgettable from the cafeteria style plasticized menu sheet to the very simple and course main dishes. Better have your lunch or dinner down the road. Breakfast not impressive either with little choice. Staff fine but not overly so. Alvito attractive and so is the countryside around it.

Bathroom with outdated dishes and taps. Small room. Very pleasant breakfast. Excellent location. Very good bar and meal service. It's a shame that an event was taking place next to our room that we weren't warned about.

We had booked a room for 3 and we ended up in probably the most beautiful room, at the top of the tower. Spacious and the third bed rather comfortable.
Small garden with swimming pool which should be nice in the hot season.
Very competent bartender (he was also the one who took us to our room and served dinner 😲 and who was also at breakfast).
Reduced menu for dinner, but it was good, as well as our Vidigueira red wine. Breakfast in the sun with everything you needed.
Very honest prices.
Only downside: one of the elevators is more for service, and with 3 of us in it, we got stuck there.

What a lovely hotel! beautifully converted from the original castle and spotlessly clean, this was a joy. We stum led upon it by accident and it ended up being a highlight of our trip. The village of Alvito is tiny, quiet, and charming. Highly recommended!

The space is very beautiful and well decorated, the room is excellent! The staff were all available, attentive and discreet. location is very good. It should be noted that I made a mistake when booking and that didn't mean I had to incur additional expenses, THANK YOU!

The staff were friendly and polite. There is plenty of parking onsite. Wifi performed well. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection of options. Our room was plenty large enough, quiet and had lovely garden views. The gardens were beautiful, even in November. Only downside was no kettle in the rooms.

Stayed 2 nights, fabulous building of 15th C with mix of Mudejar and mix of Manueline architecture. 20 rooms and one suite. Gorgeous gardens and pool behind high curtain walls off the main town square. Maples, cypresses and holm oaks provide some shade from the unrelenting Alentejo sun. We had a standard room which was small but 'perfectly formed' and spotlessly clean. A superior room is probably worth it for the extra space. Our room looked into the castle courtyard and restaurant. A large cypress soared like a 'jack & the beanstalk' out the window.
The staff are delightful and most helpful. We ate in the restaurant which was wholesome, reasonably price if uninspiring food. There was a good and reasonably priced wine selection. Breakfasts were ample with good selection of hot and cold options and wide array of breads, cakes and cereals. Orange juice was freshly squeezed and delicious.
There is a beautiful terrace near the castle waterwheel under the maples that gets the evening sun. Great place to have a cold beer or glass of wine and read or watch the sun go down over Alvito.
Only grumble was the shower at the pool did not work and the standard room was a tad small. This Pousada was a treat and great place to explore Moura, Mourao, Monsaraz and Regengous de Monsaraz and the nearby Menirs and Dolmens or passage tombs.
We could not access the parish church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, dating back to the early 16thC or churches, the Igreja da Misericórdia and the Igreja da Senhora das Candeias or fortified church of Santa Luiza on edge of town.
