Detailed Reviews
We had a great stay at the Silver Beach Hotel. This is a relatively small hotel (under 100 rooms) which suited us very well (we don't like those huge facilities with hundreds of rooms). It is located right on the beach - our beachfront rooms were just on the water (20meter). Try getting one of these rooms if you can. The rooms are specious and can easily accommodate a family with 2 kids. Rooms and hotels facilities (pool area, bar, restaurant) are VERY clean. Staff is very nice and helpful. Two important notes: (i) the hotel is listed as "all inclusive" but it is actually "full board" with 3 (very decent) meals, but you will have to pay for extra coffee and drinks, (ii) its location is quite remote - better have a rental car to get around.

The place is a bit isolated but you’re in luck if you have a car. Local buses stop nearby on the main road and it’s a ten minute walk or just use a cab.
We stayed 4 days and loved the place. Our room was very large with a balcony overlooking the sea. It had all the mod cons and was cleaned daily. Food is included so that’s all meals everyday plus you get free soft drinks, beer and wines included. Other hotels/ resorts should take note.
The staff were all friendly, helpful and always available. Nothing was too difficult. It just made for a perfect holiday. I can’t stress how important this was after being in Croatia.
You also have the choice of using the beach or one of the swimming pools. Beach towels are free and can be changed every couple of days.
There’s a gym and other facilities making this place all inclusive and kid / family friendly.
A big thanks to all the staff.

A great hotel with direct access to the beach in the Platanias area, Crete. Located very well to get around (by car) and visit Chania (20 min), Elafonisi, the Samaria Gorge or the small towns in the south (just over 1 hour). The rooms are spacious, very clean and comfortable, many of them with direct access to the beach. The buffet was pretty decent for an all-inclusive. Very delicious vegetable dishes and local specialties. We only missed some legumes (there was absolutely nothing), a little more variety of fruit (little), and above all, a decent coffee (it was terrible). But hey, correct to stay for a few days. The atmosphere, at least when we went in May, is calm and familiar. It is appreciated that there is no open liquor bar, there were no drunk tourists from 10 in the morning like in other resorts. It also helps that it is a smallish hotel. The pools are very good. The beach is not much, stones and open sea, so when we were there the water was quite rough.
The best thing about the hotel, in any case, is its staff: absolutely friendly and charming, each and every person.

Family 2+2. Two weeks. Spacious room, fridge, air conditioning, TV, balcony etc. Cleaned every day, changed bedding every other day (sheets etc.). Very clean! Food in the cafeteria very good apart from standard dishes like everywhere typical Greek dishes of good quality every day:) You can also eat shrimp, mussels, octopus. Staff of the entire hotel very nice and caring about the facility. There are two swimming pools of different depths, a volleyball court, you can also play table tennis or football. The hotel is located practically on the beach, you can go out from your room to the beach. Free sunbeds on the hotel beach. The beach is not very crowded, very few people. The hotel is in a completely isolated place, ideal for people who want to have peace and quiet and rest. Nearby there is a grocery store and a tavern (Oasis very good food) if someone wants to use it. There is also a bus stop nearby that goes every 30 minutes to Platanias and Chania. Overall, I highly recommend it:)

This is an exceptional hotel.
The staff are ALL friendly and helpful, especially the more senior members.
The All-Inclusive buffet was varied enough that I never had to eat the same meal twice in a week—interesting & varied dishes of superb quality; so tempting that my waistline undoubtedly increased.
Our room was facing the sea, very spacious, clean with quality material throughout. Good mattress & pillows. Also had a fridge, kettle, crockery etc.
The sea view is worth paying for and the pool bar is remarkably close.
I've recommended this hotel to my friends already!

One of the best hotel I have been to. Perfect location and size, clean, v.good food and service. Very well managed. Every one is loooking after the guests. they are very helpful. Eleni in the pool bar-charming and proffessional, not only in making drinks. The "garden" is well groomed. Limited selection in the bar helps to keep guests on their good behaviour. Very relaxing and quiet place. For me 5 *. Excellent food, service and acommodation

We are currently in this hotel. The hotel is well-kept, rooms are cleaned every day. The food was very good, hot, the bread was fresh and crispy. Staff very nice, polite. I really recommend this place. You can rent a car without a card for cash. Just a great holiday. I recommend.

Amazing place. Clean bright and on the edge of the beach. Private and secluded compared to the other resorts at Platanias and Chania.
The food is excellent and my thanks to the chef Stavros whose recipes were simply too good to miss. The bar ladies were amazing and worked tirelessly and also friendly. The entire staff were brilliant. Live music was great. Has two pool and a decent pool size bar. It’s a mixed sand and pebble beach visited by sea turtles for their nests.

This hotel, while on the smaller side for resorts was absolutely magnificent. I stayed here for two weeks and was given a studio style apartment that included a small two burner stove, fridge, bathroom with shower only, full bed, dining table, and balcony with chairs. This resort has since expanded and has placed in one more complex. There is a pool and childrens pool off the main lobby, a lobby bar that also serves lunch (great bartender when I was there, really did an excellent job his name was Pavlos), a dininr room that serves buffet breakfast and dinner (also does a themed Cretan dinner one night a week with local entertainment), a small store for your basic needs and snacks, and a small wonderful staff (was run by a family from Crete and they went out of your way to make you feel at home).
I went on several excursions through a travel company which came right to the resort three days a week, the local waterpark also had a smal tram shuttle that came by the hotel for pickup. The town itself is quite small but has very good dining options, there are two stores for buying all you need within 5 minutes of the hotel also.
I would recommend the Sumari Gorge for a hike, it is quite steep and would not be recommend with those who are not used to rough terrain. I recommend starting at the top and working your way down to the ferry dock (isolated community, ferry is the onle way out without going back up the Gorge).
There are incredible side trips from Silver BEach that are worth while or you can just sit and relax by the pool and read. I would highly recommend this hotel to any traveller.

Having been to many of the Greek islands and the mainland but never Crete we looked forward to our fortnight away from routine.
We booked this accomodation to allow us a little more flexibility. We wanted to escape our day to day schedule and just relax, come and go as we pleased etc....that's what holidays are for isn't it? If you agree then whatever you do don't book to stay at the Silver Beach.
It was absolutely boiling hot which was fantastic but, as I've read in previous reviews, our air-con was a problem!
We mentioned it after the first night and it was reluctantly switched on that night. It went off early the next morning, before we even thought about getting up. That was the end of our idea of cooking our own breakfast, it was just too hot.
We casually mentioned it again to Reception and were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't have it on all the time, that we are out of our rooms all day and if it's too hot we should open the windows!! I mentioned that there were a lot of mosquitos, in fact we had both been quite badly bitten despite the anti-mosi devices we had purchased. We were told to take something for the mosquitos!! We really didn't want any confrontation, after all it was our holiday so we left it at that.
We called the Thomson helpline several times about this. They called the Reception at the hotel and were told that the A/C was on a timer and couldn't be changed. The times were 4pm-7pm, 11pm-7am. So woe betide you should wish to escape the heat and have an afternoon snooze.....no chance....you're supposed to be out all day!!
That night we dutifully left the room after the A/C went off and went out to dinner. We returned just before 11pm, looking forward to relaxing in a cool room before going to bed. At 1.30am we were still waiting for the A/C to come on, we were melting somewhat, when we heard a slight commotion across the way, don't know what had happened but as it was the Receptionist/Manager/whatever she was, had obviously been called in. My husband flew downstairs and demanded the A/C should be turned on. It was turned on at 1.45am....this is the system that is on a timer and cannot be changed remember!!!!
I have to agree with others who have posted reviews that the Management were most unhelpful and not very pleasant at all. The bar staff I can't comment on really because we vowed not to spend any time or money there.
We also had to effect repairs to the shower head with an empty ciggy packet and I have to say that our shower curtain was too short and water went over the floor no matter how careful we tried to be which made it quite treacherous. OK we could cope with that and anyway we didn't dare mention that or anything else to them lest they should turn off the A/C permanently!
So, take heed.......If you see "Centrally cotrolled A/C" on any brochure page, it could well mean, as it does in this case "At the Management's discretion"
On the plus side the Cleaners were lovely and did a fantastic job at keeping the place spotless. We felt very sorry for them because obviously they had to clean during the day, in seering heat with no A/C available to cool them down.
