We started out our trip here on our 18 day honeymoon and stayed in the overwater motu bungalow. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our 3 day start to our trip at this hotel. However, we are here ending our honeymoon since our flight leaves out of tahiti on a Saturday and this has been quite a different experience. We are platinum elite ihg embassadors and we're given a room upgrade to a premium room but the quality and amenities in this room are a significant downgrade from our wonderful overwater bungalow. To make matters worse there is a conference going on right outside our room that is incredibly loud and disruptive. They have taken over the hotel and the restaurants. We had to wait 20 minutes to even have a waiter look at us to take our order. To say that this has left a very sour taste in our mouths after a wonderful start is an understatement. Incredibly disappointed.

Hospitality was out of this world. My flat iron broke and I had tremendous help from the concierge desk. I ended up having to frantically catch a taxi to a store to grab another before getting on our ship for 7 days. The guys were so helpful during the whole process.

We had read some quite negative reviews about the hotel before we arrived but after years of travel across 65 countries and counting we have sort of worked out that people have very different expectations of something. Apart from a big old wait to check in around 23:00 (not a surprise) we agreed that this was a great place to stay. We stayed in an overwater bungalow which was very well maintained and appointed and a lovely place to stay. Service was excellent, and the meals had a superb buffet with lots of choice. There was a great Polynesian show on the Sunday morning with breakfast. Best we saw on our trip so get there early/reserve a table. There are whale watching trips available - really recommend Captain Benoit who operates from the local marina. He took us out for 3 hours and we actually saw Humpbacks before coming back into the lagoon for some superb snorkelling. Many of our fellow guests only stayed in Tahiti as transit to Bora Bora. This is a shame as Tahiti has much to offer and is worth the time to visit. This is a great Resort to do it from.

After 2 weeks visiting Canada via the train and the Calgary Stampede it was time for a rest so we decided on a bit of luxury and booked the Intercontinental for a few days prior to boarding the Paul Gauguin cruise ship. A good move, not all inclusive but it was still a worth while stay.We arrived at the hotel via Los Angeles at 0630 and we were told no room available until 0900 so we were pretty tired nowhere to rest up and waited in the lounge until the sun came up and decided to head to the beach until room ready. We had swim kit in hand baggage so we settled down on the many sun beds by the bar/pool waiting for the bar to open,it was a swim up bar and served many of your favourite drinks,a bit pricey but the view made up for that. The rooms were spacious but the thermostat for the aircon was set at a low of 23 and many times you needed it cooler especially at night.A nice view from the ground floor window over the ocean and gardens and a mini fridge with fresh water every day were a pleasing sight. The main bar was very relaxing listening to the entertainment in the evenings and the staff were very pleasant. You can order food from the bar so if you wanted a snack the bar area was for you. The main restaurant was pleasant but a lack of advanced menu was our downfall one evening as we both don’t like raw fish and decided on the buffet and ended up eating chicken nuggets at the bar,a costly mistake. The lagoon complete with salt water is worth a swim as many fish will be swimming with you the other 2 pools are freshwater. There are plenty of sun beds so no reserving needed here, beach towels are available around the pools so no need to carry towels from your room. The evening entertainment was mainly from the local community so a good time was had eating/drinking and watching. Overall a good time was had it was so good we came back a week later after our cruise.

The location is magnificent but go the intercontinental bora bora a different class of hotel! Lots of issues. Rude woman at check in hassling about lostbkuchers instead of sorting it as I did on 2minutes with the agency. No soap dish or laundry bag. Minorbut... Fish at lunch done to death. And oh for le lotus restaurant not reviewable separately on trip advisor unsurprisingly. Food by Bruno ogier described as a 2 star chef. No more except the food was fussy and overexpensive. Fixed prices $85 for starter and main Chicken was dry and inedible. Limited menu. Time for anew concept and chef. Avoid. Tiare restaurant soulless. Buffet tries too hard. Alas.

Stayed here as a 'day' guest following cruise prior to flight home. Room was basic - grounds lovely - staff rude - food pretty bad and prices through the roof - $23 for a pina colada. I would not want to spend an extended time at this property, staff should remember who pays the bills.

Stars are for kind service at brunch, Polynesian dancers and cool lagoon. Front desk was horrible. Arrived around 10 PM. Front desk insisted I booked two rooms. I did not. I had one email for one room. We are a family of 3 with a small child. The girl at the desk said maybe I did it by accident but I had to pay. But I did not. I did not have confirmation for another room. They made me pay for both rooms. We had been traveling for 20 hours. Too tired to argue I asked if they were at least adjoining rooms. She said no. Arrived to both rooms. Yes, they were adjoining. Got situated in one room - checked out the other (should have done that first). First room a/c didn’t work. Also only hot or scaldingly hot water in bathroom. Toilet broken. Thankfully we left for another island in the AM.

Our stay was so bad that we actually gave up being annoyed and laughed instead. Here are some of the things that happened in a farcical stay. - Upon checking in, the resort forgot to ask us to sign some paperwork. I got a call to come up to reception (10 minutes away) to sign this. When I got there, the first person waves me off because she’s too busy photocopying, the second takes 5 minutes to work out what I need to do, and acts like I’m an inconvenience for their mistake. - Our daughter’s bed was made up without any pillows, another trip to reception to request these, which are then dumped at the end of our bed because it’s apparently too hard to walk 3m to put them where they should have been. - To get a pool towel you need to show a card at the towel hut, apparently guests can’t be trusted to get a towel themselves. About half of the time, the towel hut was deserted, so on two two occasions we had our towels taken by other guests whilst we were swimming. - The aircon can’t be lowered below 23C and regularly turns itself off, good luck if you like a good night’s sleep. We heard two other guests complaining to the front desk about this and can see it’s been raised in previous reviews (along with failed replies saying it will be looked into). 23 degrees is universally accepted to be too hot for a comfortable sleep, it’s ridiculous that a “premium” resort thinks this is okay. - Our bed was very uncomfortable, so firm that it wasn’t far off just sleeping on the floor. - Whilst we were there, there was a dance and music event. A note in our room told us that we might hear this “slightly”. Instead, the sound of drumming and smell of smoke went across the entire resort for two nights (and then the drumming went on again from 8-10am on the third morning). - Due to the dance and music event, most of the usual cooking and waiting staff were busy for those two nights working on a paid buffet. We had the misfortune to eat at the normal restaurant on one of those nights. Our food arrived after 50 minutes, it was so cold we sent it back. On the second attempt, the burger bun was burned, the burger was raw, and one of the meals appeared to have just been refried rather than made again. - Following this meal, I spent two days with stomach cramps and nausea, I can’t say for sure, but suspect the burger was the cause. - When we checked out, the hotel tried to charge for the accommodation we had already paid for. I had to argue to get this fixed, this was totally unacceptable. There are a few positives, the bar and wait staff are great and are doing their best, the porters were terrific. The infinity pool is really nice and there’s a great spot at the back of the lagoonarium to watch fish. I’m sure the manager will promise to look into these issues and say we should have raised them further. My response would be that, as a 4.5 star resort, these things should just not be happening at all.

Arrived at 12:30am exhausted but quickly checked in to a quiet room with wonderful views. The room while displaying tired furnishings was tidy and clean with great blackout curtains!! Housekeeping never did understand our English or broken, pathetic attempts at French yet met our every need with friendliness! The location of the property so close to the airport and Papeete is a bonus but the Resort shines with it’s extensive grounds which includes several swimming options and a pond teeming with fish for snorkeling!! The views of the lagoon, breaking waves and Moorea are special!! We only ate at the casual venues: The Tiki Bar and the Lobby (open 24/7!!) and found the food and beverages to be very tasty (Viva Hinano beer!!!). ….but seemingly significantly more expensive than in town dining. Safe drinking water and complimentary laundry and ice were a welcome bonus! Overall a very nice resort and start of our Polynesian vacation!!!
