This is one of those hotels that squeezes a little bit extra out of guests by charging for things that other hotels provide as part of their service. For example, during check in you are required to sign a form agreeing not to smoke in the room (good) and that the hotel is not liable for loss of valuables that are not stored in the safe in the room or at the front desk but then find out that there is an additional charge to use the in-room safe. A sign in the room notes that bathroom towels must not be taken to the pool but the hotel will provide a pool towel for an extra charge. This type of grubbing behavior results in bad feeling that one would think is doing more PR harm than financial good. That aside the hotel would best set described as adequate. My room had twin beds pushed together that took up virtually all of the available space. There was just room for the big safe that I am guessing most people don't use on account of the extra charge and a free standing wardrobe. There was also a secretary desk with top that opened out to become the work surface and when open obstructed the space so much as to prevent movement between the bedroom and the bathroom. The only power outlet close to the desk was actually behind it so that the desk had to be pulled away from the wall to provide access to the outlet. There was no luggage stand. The bathroom was a reasonable size but the shower head emitted just a dribble although the hot water was reliable. The wifi was also reliable. The room had a small balcony reached by leaping over my suitcase which was open on the floor in front of the balcony door because there was nowhere else to put it. The balcony had a table and 2 chairs and a clothes line - possibly meant for the money earning pool towel but also useful for laundry. Breakfast was included in the tariff. Things are odd in this age of covid when buffets are banned and getting served could be slow with only a single staff member on duty but the food was good with many choices. Overall, you wouldn't stay at the Playa Sur for the facilities but might run to 1-2 nights for its proximity to the beach and the local restaurants. I doubt that I will be back.

Let’s start with the positive - the location is top, right at the beach and very quiet (except for the planes that you can hear in all of El Médano), too. But the condition is below average - this place (at least the rooms) needs serious renovations! The rooms were so old that they looked dirty. It’s advertised as a great windsurfing spot, but we’ve only seen pensioners. Staff at the reception has left us waiting for 15 mins before we could check in. Breakfast was ok. Won’t book here again.

In the parking lot of the kite spot is stealing from cars! Take care not to have money and cards to you. The hotel does not have web cam in parking area! Police do not help! Unfortunately the hotel could also take care of parking!

Good Hotel, very clean good staff, good pool area, and Bar, I had a top balcony with fantastic view, only drawback, the sun shines all day long on the patio doors, making the room stifling at nite, no air conditioning in room, asked if they had a mobile unit , but no they didn't, that was the only gripe I had. Handy for the Airport 10 min drive, free parking free Wi-Fi and a good buffet breakfast. 2 mins walk to the beach area, what more do you want.
