I wasn't expecting much and knew it would be basic accommodations. That much was very true. The property could use some work although it was clean, staff was nice and food was ok. They had a dynamite mango daiguiri!!! Weather wasn't great so we did not use the pool but it looked ok. Our room was ample size but we had only luke warm water, the shower head wouldn't stay up and the drapery fell down when we went to open them. We only stayed 1 night so we didn't have the staff address those issues. We had some visitors in our room, a frog, gecko and tick but that didn't affect my rating-that is expected in this environment. I mention it because some people might freak out if the visitors were in their room. We squashed the tick, rescued the frog and put him outside and never caught the gecko, he stayed overnight with us somewhere lol. The night tour was worthless and would not recommend it. We saw nothing but 1 frog and the guide Ernesto said nothing throughout the tour, maybe a language issue? We also took the wetlands boat tour which was good to see a lot of birds and caimans. However we had Ernesto again, he was nice enough but he didn't talk other than to call out the bird names so we didn't learn much. If you are in the area, the hotel is ok for one night but definitely would not stay longer. I'm not sure Cano Negro was worth the extra travel time it took us to get there.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your comment. We regret that the stay was not to your entire satisfaction, as well as not have allowed us to solve the issues at the moment. We will work on your review since the guide you mention is the most requested and experienced at Caño Negro. Birdwatchers and nature lovers who usually return and book Ernesto in advance, regardless of nationality or language, always leave very satisfied with the service provided by him. Kind regards.

I was a bit surprised how small the Cano Negro community was, the Natural Lodge is the largest hotel in that area. I wasn't sure what to expect, but after a very minor issue with the first room we were offered, we had a good visit. As others have mentioned, the rooms are very basic, but I've found that to be common in Costa Rica. Having said that, we were there to experience that part of Costa Rica, and the Lodge certainly provided us with a good place to stay. The room was clean, the beds fairly comfortable, the AC worked well and the grounds were well maintained. We saw a lot of birds and some Spider Monkey's playing in the trees right outside our room. We ate several breakfasts at the Lodge while we were there, one day breakfast was a buffet and the other a la carte. I beleive the Lodge determines that by how many folks are staying in the Lodge. We also had dinner one evening, the food was good. Overall, the service was very good, everyone was friendly and helpful. We thought Cano Negro was a wonderful place and hope to return for another visit. I'd have no hesitation about staying at the Lodge again.

The hotel is just ok. Beds are not very comfortable, rooms are plain, bathroom was good. Breakfast is included and it is very good. It is worth staying here for the wetland/river tours. We booked 2 tours thru the hotel and the the tours were both wonderful Ernesto was our afternoon guide and he was outstanding. He spotted so many different birds! Also several basilisk lizards and a caiman.

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge and the Natural Lodge did not disappoint! We expected the lodgings to be basic, which they were, but the friendly staff made it even better! The hotel arranged a birding trip for us with a local guide, Jimmy, who was great. Everyone was very friendly. You don't come to Caño Negro to sit in your room, so don't expect luxury there. The showers had hot water and the AC worked great, so no complaints. Birders- highly recommend!

The room was basic, gardens looked like they needed some work, the food was good and the staff were absolutely amazing in they way that they were so helpful and looked like they really enjoyed their work and visitors. The best part was the Cano Negro just across the road and the fantastic boat trips arranged by the hotel
