My uncle who lives in Costa Rica took me to this resort for couple nights along with few other friends. Place was neat and staff were very friendly. Besides the issue of old rooms with minimum accommodation the place is located in a spectacular mountain view with so many mineral hot water spring and gorgeous river. You need to lower...

Our room was right off the lobby. Very noisy. Only window faced offices, so no light. Beds were not very good. Everything old and worn. Our meals were included. They were all buffet style, with very limited selection and repetitive. Service was non-existent. The thermal pools are nice. Clean and several choices. The surroundings are beautiful. This could be a...

The beds are like a regular motel in San José city. No proper electricity for laptop or technology devices. Phone does not work to get room service or any communication with front desk. Place is nice and quiet, just that!

The hotel is very unique and great to relax, located in area that is away from busy streets but still easy to get to. Employees there are very polite and the food is great! If you are looking for a place to relax, swim a little, try some local cuisine this is the spot.

Comfortable room, kindly staff, good position with a very nice view from the restaurant and good breakfast. We have the reservation for the mountain and garden view, but our room was just in front to the central area, where there is the parking of all the car.

I stayed here as part of a multi day packaged Overseas Adventure Travel land tour. It is a very nice hotel, the grounds were beautiful, and you didn't have to go very far to see colorful birds. The rooms were adequate; everything in the room worked. However, they didn't have air conditioning; just a ceiling fan. They had free wifi;...

If you can appreciate the beautiful grounds and buildings of an older resort this place is for you. It has more Costa Ricans staying than Americans which was nice! June is the off-season so it was almost empty. Of the 90 rooms maybe 10 rented. The daily rains were short and it was warm enough that it was pleasant. I...

The hotel is a little old. However it is clean and safe. The room was very basic, good size, no extra features. The food was very good, we had dinner and breakfast. Everything was well served. The service was good. It was weird that when we took breakfast they asked us for our room number, even that we had a...

Definitely not commonplace. Although the hotel is not fancy, nor its rooms have air conditioning, I'm sure people feel comfortable, happy and relaxed. The place is definitely spectacular !!! San Carlos is definitely a place of natural treasures. This hotel is visited by a river of hot water coming from the volcano. This river feeds 3 pools at different temperatures,...

El Tucano Hotel’s main guest is Mother Nature. The hotel has 87 rooms, including two luxury suites, though the real luxury is the chance to take a bath in its thermal waters. Featuring a 500 people capacity restaurant and conference halls for 200 people, both areas are surrounded by the primary forest housing a countless variety of flora and fauna. El Tucano Hotel has one of the most complete spas in Latin America where all the visitors renew their body and soul thanks to the communion received by the gifts of nature. In its extension of almost 7 acres of land and 9000 m2 of construction are produced 80 liters of water per second flowing from the 7 springs of thermal waters. The hotel has three hot springs pools recently remodeled and a hot water river with wonderful waterfalls and natural pools (surrounded the whole property), guests can swim in and let the river take all its problems while they get renew with its powerful energy. There is also a tennis field, several trails through the forest and mini golf area, though the best activity to practice at El Tucano is relaxation while contemplating the great masterpiece that surrounds it. ... more   less
