I was there 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful trip.. A private place away from the town... I enjoyed every single thing of the hotel but they need to improve their customer service cause I got a bad attention from some people of the hotel

If you can appreciate the beautiful grounds and buildings of an older resort this place is for you. It has more Costa Ricans staying than Americans which was nice! June is the off-season so it was almost empty. Of the 90 rooms maybe 10 rented. The daily rains were short and it was warm enough that it was pleasant. I... More

The hotel is a little old. However it is clean and safe. The room was very basic, good size, no extra features. The food was very good, we had dinner and breakfast. Everything was well served. The service was good. It was weird that when we took breakfast they asked us for our room number, even that we had a... More

Definitely not commonplace. Although the hotel is not fancy, nor its rooms have air conditioning, I'm sure people feel comfortable, happy and relaxed. The place is definitely spectacular !!! San Carlos is definitely a place of natural treasures. This hotel is visited by a river of hot water coming from the volcano. This river feeds 3 pools at different temperatures,... More

Gym was closed due to "maintenance", no A/C in our room, safe box is not a free service. Overall, I don't recommend this place, I'd recommend you to look for hotels like Baldi or tabaccon, you may have to pay a little bit extra, but you get a 5 starts service The food was good.

We stopped off here for 3 nights on our tour of Costa Rica. The hotel is a bit older but very well situated off the main road with beautiful grounds amid a multitude of avian species. Although not air-conditioned the lower night temperatures during February were not uncomfortable; the view from the back "decks" of the rooms looking out over... More

My Family and I stayed at the Tucano Resort during our visit to Costa Rica and I can say it was the lowest point of our trip. I am told that they recently changed management, but the hotel is still it terrible shape but with higher prices. Staff are not well trained and unable to cope with guests needs. We... More

The El Tucano is comfortable, not air conditioned, with rather average food. The pools are nice. We liked the natural steam room. There were indeed Tucans and macaws around the grounds on a couple of occasions. We were there in a bit of the rainly season. It might be a bit uncomfortable in the summer months.

this is an older hotel with great bones, yes the plumbing is a bit dated, and it could have been a bit cleaner. But for 70 bucks we had a free breakfast, 5 different pools of varying temps to choose from, nesting macaws, Nesting montezuma oropendola, a private balcony to view them, lush gardens, super hot steam room and we... We stayed at El Tucano for three nights. Based on our experience, I recommend seeking another facility – perhaps in La Fortuna? First, the good: the grounds are very nicely landscaped, the facility features a thermal pool, there is a beautiful stream with a nature trail along the edge of the property, and birds are easy to spot (we saw... El Tucano Hotel’s main guest is Mother Nature. The hotel has 87 rooms, including two luxury suites, though the real luxury is the chance to take a bath in its thermal waters. Featuring a 500 people capacity restaurant and conference halls for 200 people, both areas are surrounded by the primary forest housing a countless variety of flora and fauna. El Tucano Hotel has one of the most complete spas in Latin America where all the visitors renew their body and soul thanks to the communion received by the gifts of nature. In its extension of almost 7 acres of land and 9000 m2 of construction are produced 80 liters of water per second flowing from the 7 springs of thermal waters. The hotel has three hot springs pools recently remodeled and a hot water river with wonderful waterfalls and natural pools (surrounded the whole property), guests can swim in and let the river take all its problems while they get renew with its powerful energy. There is also a tennis field, several trails through the forest and mini golf area, though the best activity to practice at El Tucano is relaxation while contemplating the great masterpiece that surrounds it. ... more   less
