We arrived in Limoux without a reservation and were told about this hotel at the wine shop in the Square. The hostess was extremely gracious and helpful. The room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet. Wanting to enjoy the area's Cremant and Blanquette, we settled in for two nights - providing an easy drive to Carcasonne. While in the area, check... We stayed in a family room (no. 10) which was very nice indeed. The small room for kids was cosy and the large room was comfortable. The bed area and sitting area could be divided by a curtain, if necessary. The bathroom was large and well-equipped. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The room was at the back of the hotel... The hotel is generally well-kept and clean, but the fixtures and fittings in the room and bathroom are very dated. When we came down for breakfast we were the only people there and eventually a cleaner alerted staff that we might want some coffee to accompany the rather tired-looking pastries nearby. It wasn't late (8.30 am). We experienced this rigmarole... More

We arrived on bicycles without a reservation and the host was incredibly kind to us. We had a very nice room with the best air conditioner--extremely quiet. We slept so soundly here. Very nice breakfast in the morning. The building is beautiful and has a peaceful court yard with a fountain. We felt very lucky to stay here.

Very friendly receptionist, Paula, who was extremely helpfull and well informed and spoke excellent English. Wonderful location just off the central square which had lots of cafes and restaurants. Very comfortable spacious room with air conditioning. All staff in the hotel were friendly and helpfull at all times. Although the hotel does not have its own parking we were always... More

We stayed for one night in June and it was lovely. New owners are friendly and welcoming. We stayed in room 11 on the second floor (no lift) which was really large with a comfortable king bed. Despite the 'feria' in town we didn't hear a thing - very quiet room indeed overlooking the hotel courtyard. Dinner at the restaurant... More

Ideally situated near the central square and its restaurants, Modern and Pigeon offers clean comfortable accomodation. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak good English. No problems experienced, and would probably stay again

The hotel is a former convent, and is quite impressive, with stained glass, old wood and a grand staircase (no elevator). The bedrooms were enormous by European standards, and each decorated individually, in a charming French provencal style. However, at 100 Euros a night for midweek in the low season, I thought it was a bit over-priced as I had... More

Looking for a rather grand hotel to stay in, right in the centre of lovely Limoux, just off Place de la République? Then look no further than the Three Star "Grand Hôtel Moderne et Pigeon" The hotel is not perfect, but they are doing a marvellous job restoring it and improving on it's previous dubious reputation. I found one of... More

I first stayed here over 12 years ago and loved it then. I have returned to eat every year since. The old owners have gone off to a well earned retirement , and the new team are from the Tantine et Tanton restaurant (indeed the Tantine et Tanton is now in the hotel). The menu is now brasserie style using... More
